  4. I have absolutely no issue with doing (or paying for) any routine maintenance. But the there is no EGR maintenance mentioned anywhere and it's clearly a good idea to have it cleaned out. At a cost.

  5. IIRC it will be in the side panel in the passenger footwell...remove the cover and you'll see the fuses but they are a bit fiddly to get to. I think they are mini fuses IIRC There's a similar panel with fuses behind in the driver's footwell too but I think (not absolutely 100% sure) in this case it will be the passenger footwell.

  7. Congratulations...sounds nice....looks tidy. It's all about budget and compromise..and need..!.....awning position.?.. like Tony, I'd prefer the side, but it's what suits you best....just research and take your time..the "wrong" awning can be a costly mistake. I bought a tailgate awning intially..but soon realised it's limitations..i.e. the tailgate having to be open permanently to support it. Sold it without loss fortunately....as Tony suggests, a magnet fixing is easy. I'm looking now at a quick erect utility tent that can go side or back..and can be driven away from. I had some curtains made up and simply fitted them on normal wires. Juts have a good look around the campervan accessories market place and see what stuff is there....there are so many options. I use a simple single burner stove/hob (powered by the aerosol type gas cannister) and a decent coolbox. A good "mattress" is essential..the seats fold flat-ish but not flat enough to give a comfortable sleep..I'd choose the self inflating type. I also invested in a toilet tent and a chemical toilet (Kampakhazi type)..even more valuable now with many facilities being closed...or having to be shared with many others..something that's a bit riskier now with covid 19 still around..I'd rather have my own facilities. I also have a 12v shower which is handy for a quick wash. Have a look at this online magazine..some really good stuff to read about. https://campfiremag.co.uk/ These may be of interest to you.? https://www.amazon.co.uk/LaLoona-Universal-Protection-Drawstring-UV-Protection/dp/B01I8KDWE4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywo Good luck with whatever you choose..and wherever you go.;!!

  8. Well done Be looks a tidy motor, I would have the awning on the side personally you can buy Magnets to attach it to the car, Similar looking to a dent puller, window pads are a good option as you have said. I didn't have tha problem as my Esti has curtains. You might want a camping stove I think the type that uses an aerosol can are easy to clean and store ideal size as well.

  9. Problem solved. I just cut the led brake light housing open with Dremel and took the dead led bar off. I found out that old Primera (P11, HB) 3rd brake light led bar measurements might be almost the same as my Avensis. I bought one from scrap yard and it was perfect. And looks even better with its 12 leds. A little bit Sika Flex and Primera´s led bar sits tight in Avensis brake light housing. Costs: 5€ ( Sika Flex was already in my warehouse).

  10. Fully appreciate all of that. But I expected a Toyota with a full main dealer service history to be trouble free. As my last Prius and two Corolla's were.

  11. A 2004 Prius would be Euro4 and a 2010 Prius Euro 5 - so less emissions controls on the 2004 model and, of course, a different engine.

  12. QuantumFireball - I'm just comparing my current Prius with my 2004 Gen 2. Sold it with 140k on the clock. Only ever had routine servicing plus a water pump failure. Sold it to someone I still keep in touch with. It's starting to burn a bit of oil and may not pass the next Mot emission test, but it's been a paragon of virtue. And look at the current mileage:

  13. At the end of the day, any security device, whether it is a catloc, alarm, immobiliser, steering wheel lock, etc, is only a deterrent, and cannot guarantee full protection against theft or damage. It is all about minimising risk. Owners can minimise the risk of theft or damage by fitting or using such devices. Another consideration is to use devices which have been satisfactorily tested by an independent body - eg Thatcham or Sold Secure.

  14. Well compared to a modern diesel I don't think it's so bad. EGR trouble is inevitable because of the amount of soot they make, not to mention problems with DPFs, dual mass flywheels, and so on. If you bought a Mazda diesel, you'd probably need a new engine by now :)

  15. Yes I have had the Toyota catloc fitted on our Prius Gen 4 and my son has had it fitted to his Gen 3. Yes it is a deterrent only. A determined thief could still get the cat convertor. Last time I spoke to the service department at our local dealer before the lock down they told me they had not received any reports of catalytic convertors being stolen if the car had the approved catloc fitted.

  16. https://carperformance.se/product/corolla-2019-up-android-extension-2/ From Sweden, but I think 499 EUR for Carplay and Android Auto is not worth it.

  17. The brochure I was given in March must have been the previous issue as it did not include the GR model, happy to get the later spec. I had LSA on my previous car and it was actually difficult to feel when it was on so just switched it off. Having read that it was quite intrusive on the Corolla it was the first thing to be turned off, quickly followed by switching the speedo from analogue to digital.

  18. Picked up the car on Wednesday in accordance with the social distancing regulations, so quite an unusual experience, albeit quite painless. The major issues were accessing the customer toilets, which are out of bounds, and the explanation of car controls from a distance. The car was spot on, everything as expected, and the handover went without a hitch. First impressions of the car: Scarlet flame looks majestic on the Excel TS The seats appear to be full leather (was expecting half leather) The car is already Apple CarPlay ready (was expecting it to be a necessary update and cost as the car was delivered to the dealer late March) Registering multimedia via Toyota Online, in car using a wifi hotspot, was traumatic as the download was painfully slow, and the installation even slower (the supplied instructions/terminology is misleading so I had to go off process to complete registration and map updates). Average consumption currently up to just over 50mpg with not much more on the odometer so happy with the way the economy is going. Getting to grips with the light steering (as expected) Switched off LSA before leaving the dealers, not a fan Radar cruise works well, reducing speed on the steering retards speed well (previous car 'eventually' slowed down when you adjusted the speed down) Smooth ride, no issues with road noise Wife loves it, calls it Lola the Corolla, I added that it was the only name it could have with it being an auto TRANSmission (sorry, my warped sense of humour, ex military!) I'll get around to some pics when the weather picks up.

  19. Personally I’d wait and get the job done once. Steam cleaning is a essential part of rustproofing - it cleans difficult to brush areas and cleans off any salt. Tests done over the years by motoring magazines don’t indicate a huge difference between rustproofing fluids. However if you want a clear finish - some products don’t fit the bill. The favoured product by classic car owners is Dynax -it’s a top class product and it’s available in clear -very important to a classic owner.
