Didnt you try a spare key ??

I did, it made no difference, something had an effect on my immobiliser.

Oh I forgot to mention, once I got her fired up today, I noticed when I indicated right the green flasher on my dash flickered super fast, but I knew how to fix this one, I had a bulb out...CLEVER WOMAN...it was my drivers side front indicator bulb...went to buy a new pair immediately!

Doubt that triggerd my immobiliser issue do you?

1. don't fix it if it aint broken, keep it in the box
2. super hot is great for cold winters
3. could probably be the chain tensioner, they have o-ring which often fails, and a bit of oil seeps out.
4. does the dark red substance got any white corosion/white powder near it? does the color match the coolant color?

3. Can I replace this O RING furtula? I dont want oil seepage coming from anywhere!

4. Um no it was just bright pink...mushy looking. I recon it might be a slight coolant leak but from where?

So I've got an oil leak to the left and a coolant leak to the right. Annoying.

I'm glad she's running now though

I just saw the tensioner for Aygo, and it's a different design, so i guess it does not apply. You can still check where the oil leak is coming from, and try to identify it.

Check the coolant tank, is the level ok? The fluid maybe just the windscreen washer or something else?

best bet it to clean the engine down and keep a close eye on it

coolant leaves a powdery mess and you would see it dropping over time

end on my engine is damp where yours is shown...i wondered if its from when folk have spilled a bit during top up , i carb cleaner'd it off and will keep an eye on it

Did you fit the Ken & Natalie filter, without a remap it will suck in more air what will make the engine use more fuel, in all honesty fit a standard paper filter (a good quality one)

Hi, Coolant level is bang on as it has always been!

I'll be cleaning that oil off this weekend weather permitting, after which I'll keep close eyes.

I'm still so happy she's actually on the road again! I honestly believed that she had died and gone to the car heaven above!

Interesting you have the same leak..or spillage as you say. Mine definitely isn't spillage for im always very carefully, besides its once a year oil change no top ups for me.

Unless it was the AA man that day, I watched him though but don't recall him doing something to cause a spill, maybe he did.

Lol Ken and Natalie, I like that.

Hmm I didnt know that it increases fuel, I'm sure the packaging stated increase 1 or 2 bhp and is supposed to reduce consumption.

In that case I'll switch back to the toyota ones I get in my service pack, have 3 brand new ones lying around now.

Cheers for that.

If somebody could explain what furtula meant by their comment...I.e...could probably be the chain tensioner, they have o-ring which often fails, and a bit of oil seeps out.

Is that O ring accessible from outside that I could quickly swap over? Or is that O ring on the inside where the chain tensioner stays?

As i wrote earlier, i checked and tensioner for your car has different design, so i doubt it's at fault.
Just trace the oil spill, or if not possible, clean it up at bit, so if it comes back, you should be able to find what's causing it.

Morning All,

Heart broken yet again, yes it happened again, and again outside my daughters school, I feel like that area is cursed!

Left the car there, caught a lift home, and went back to the scene with my other half, did the same procedure as the last time, disconnect + and - , wait 10 minutes...touch the + and - terminals and then reconnect. She fired up first time, and brought her home. She's now starting fine at every try.

Just been to see that mechanic around the corner from me for advice, he recommended that we ring the tech guy who specialises in immobiliser issues etc and have home look at it, the thing is that will cost me 120.00 and whats to say even if he resets the immobiliser or whatever he does that it won't happen again. I cant live like this not knowing!

I asked this mechanic if I can keep disconneting the Battery everytime it happens and he recommended definitely NOT as it may damage the immobiliser completely.

I'd appreciate any thoughts guys!

I wont be driving her from now on eventhough she's running, and she runs sweet too, back to the Avensis for me.

Just had a thought, should I check the wiring loom plug to the immobiliser maybe, maybe uts loose, but where is the immobiliser exactly? I cant see anything in the Haynes re its location!!

Just rang my friend at the Toyota dealership to explain the issue, he advised, the first thing they do with in the same scenario is change the car Battery and see how it goes, to rule that out, otherwise he stated they hardly ever have immobiliser issues with Aygo's!!

He also recommended changing my fob batteries too.

The fob batteries only affect the remote lock/unlock, the immobiliser "chip" in the key is 100% passive so changing the key batteries won't affect an immobiliser issue.

I agree! The immobiliser chip is on its own away from the circuit board etc

Did you stop in the same area as last time outside the school ? try parking up or down the road or even around the corner

It could well be localized interference in that location

Thats EXACTLY what I've been saying to my other half. Its only happening outside my daughters school.

Infact I had a good look around today, down below and up above, but I couldn't see anything untoward.

From next week I intend to change my route!

Seems highly unlikely its interference. It sounds more like the journey to school is the time taken for whatever is causing it to fail as the car warms up. Maybe try some timed runs and see how long before stopping the issue happens. It sounds like something electronic warming up then a component failing. Im not sure how easy it is to swap the ECU on these cars and what is involved in the setup after but must be easy enough to get another one from a scrap car (can see them on eBay for about £25). Getting the diags running sounds like a good idea if it returns any errors but the disconnecting the Battery fix seems to reset the ECU so sounds like its that to me.

ive heard remote key /alarm fobs that wont work near a transmitter mast , one of my own cars is really poor near the police station vs elsewhere  i have great range

would be worth parking in another street just to see...wont cost you anything

That makes sense too Simon.

I'm still scratching my head.

Anyway, my plans to day are to replace my crank sensor since I've bought it anyway and can't return it.

And install my new Bosch s4 Battery.

Wipe that oil down at the rear of engine block

Top up my pink coolant which I've noticed has dropped a few cans

Fit my new headlamp bulbs and Wiper Blades

And thats it...and its chucking it down out there!

Only way to find any Rf interference is with a Rf analyser - the way the passive imob chips work is there is a transceiver around the ignition barrel the transceiver excites the chip in then transmits the signal back to the transceiver
