I think I agree with Terry and will try to source a full size spare - or as near a size to full - as I can get at some stage. 

Out of curiosity, should the space saver come with its own set of wheel bolts or can the alloy ones be used ?

If you are going for a full size spare you might as well go for the correct size / same size as the other wheels ... ?

The Toyota supplied spare is fixed with the existing wheel nuts. The earlier space saver spares were steel; later ones and the Tyremen/KOM spare are alloy.

Again thanks for all the input to my questions, it looks like I'll go full size. I've been told in the passed that a spacer saver is a no no on a AWD vehicle if towing,
