  1. 40mpg is of course non town and m25 traffic jam driving! How do you know ? as a matter of fact your wrong again I`m rarely on a dual carriageway, motorway or even in in 5th gear, I do have `light feet`, stick to speed limits (can you do anything else in town) and don`t drive like a idiot ie like a normal human being. The Hilux gets a `clear out` in the lower gears a couple of times a week. I am a diesel additive and Shell V-Power user. not sure but i get i bit sick of this discussion as i had one my self and in the posted link you can clearly see that you will NOT get 40 mpg in town driving.

  4. No mate, worth doing, I bought a electric paint sprayer for around £25. From eBay , then buy 5 ltr tins of waxoyl from wilco, £20.99 on offer at minute, no need to thin down just tip in to pot and spray. You can cover large areas and if you jack up you can get underneath and give a good covering. Done three cars on one tin's worth. Plus you can buy clear or black waxoyl so in and around engine bay etc use the clear and black underneath. Normally just give car a wash when done .

  5. Don't know about the present 2 litre diesel engine but would expect it to be a perfectly adequate caravan tow car - I towed a 1000kg van with the much less powerful first generation avensis turbo diesel for a number of years and found it more than acceptable. I currently tow with a 2009 (new shape) tourer with the 2.2 diesel engine and find it to be an excellent tow car for my 1250kg van. Fuel consumption tends to be around 28-30 mpg when towing which I consider acceptable. Less acceptable is short journey consumption around town (not towing) which is only low thirties.

  6. I have towed a 1000kg Folding Camper for many years with my T180 - always drive in 4th and get fuel economy 30-32mpg

  7. This sounds exactly like the problem on my 98 E320 last week. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the car worked again. Members of the mercedes forum told me that the crankshaft position sensor sends signal to the computer to start pumping fuel to move the car. If the sensor is faulty, it will stop sending fuel, which probably was why your car stops. Then if you stop the car for a few mins or hours, the sensor cools down and it works again. Have you replaced your CPS yet? It only costs few bucks. If you try to star the car and the car cranks but never starts then it can only mean a few things 1) Your battery is good 2) Your CPS is bad 3) Your fuel pump is a gonner But like you said you were able to drive after it starts again, then your fuel pump is good. Then the culprit is probably the CPS.
