  2. Good post, I have been without an economy light and a light behind the clock for almost two years. The unlit clock is annoying and the economy light would be interesting to have. I had not done anything about them as I expected to have to take all the screws out as in the Haynes manual, take out a bulb, put it all back together, go and buy bulbs using the removed one as a sample to be sure I got the right ones, return home, take the screws out and then finally fit new bulbs. As I could live without them they remained as they were. Thanks Konrad, now I know which bulbs I need. I can buy them when I am passing a motor factor, leave them in the glovebox and then fit them when I have a bit of time and I am in the mood.

  3. For the timing belt kit I went for LUK. as thats what my DMF and Clutch kit was. You get the 2 pulleys the tensioner and the belt £115 all in from amazon LUK part number 530054310 http://www.amazon.co.uk/INA-530-0543-10-Timing/dp/B00DQDMUUG/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1402846421&sr=1-1&keywords=INA+530+0543+10+Timing+Belt+Kit Luk parts website, http://toc.luk-as.de/toc/en/4B9EC293511DEA9AC0BA2ED843641AAF.srv;jsessionid=4B9EC293511DEA9AC0BA2ED843641AAF?view=VIndexFramesetJsp For the water pump the prices varied a lot on these but went for an FAI one from ebay £39, comes with 2 gaskets in a huge box and 2 year warranty.....I was suprised just how big it is.....Hope its ok...Looks great, but also looks a pain to fit... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A263722-FAI-WATER-PUMP-TOYOTA-RAV-4-2-0-D-4D-4WD-05-/371013428613?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ARAV+4&hash=item56621fa585

  4. These audio units are made by Panasonic according to the Declarations of Conformity in the owners manual.

  5. Yes, well, some people believe that a car should have one go-louder pedal and precisely one steering wheel and nothing else. Personally, I like my creature comforts...

  6. .........ah, thanks for that advice Grumpy Cabbie,........your name will also go on the list! Seriously though, like Phil mentions above, in a modern vehicle, especially one with such a nice and good looking steering wheel, it's poor..........and as for my list, it's simply a collection of shortcomings / niggles that I've picked up on in the last month. Things that perhaps only the most anally retentive type would notice / look for on a test drive. Just a few things from my drive yesterday;Trip computer full of crap useless info, why no avg MPG for the current journey?, a goodly amount of little storage spaces/bins but nowhere ideal/suitable for sunglasses or £1 coins, no hook in the boot for hanging a carrier bag, dashboard reflection and the current topic, no illumination on the steering wheel controls. The Yaris range has a poor reputation in the motoring press generally. I'm convinced they'd (the journalists) would be even more critical if any of 'em actually spent any time in one! The Yaris is a nice, good looking, competent small motor, but the men from Toyota never actually lived with it before signing it off.

  7. They should be backlit when the headlights are on, I think. If they're like the Prius, they're quite faint and if you have the brightness for the instruments turned down, you may not see the backlighting at all on the steering wheel. This was all based on my 2nd gen Prius of course, I've never driven a Yaris so bear in mind that everything I've typed might be complete rubbish :)

  8. Hi, Think in a way you are lucky that your radio housing is what appears to be a Single Din space so looks like any standard single din unit will fit; unlike our later cars which have the non standard double din sized units. Something like this Pioneer should need all your needs with all its interfaces http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer-deh-x3500ui_p-27661.htm As for speakers, I replaced my fronts and the difference was really good, it was a set of Pioneers what came with separate tweeters that do make a noticable difference, though take a bit of getting used to. Using some Dynamat or similar when fitting the speakers is well worthwhile. https://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/product/general-maintenance/tetrosyl-sound-deadening-pad-200mm-x-500mm Have often read that they say the rear speakers are the least imprortant part of the set up. If you head unit and fronts are good the rears just provide a bit of 'fill in' sound.

  9. Hi, my mk1 1.8 7AFE Avensis now has 155,500 miles on the odometer. I will have owned it for 2 years next month. The car had 141,000 showing when I bought it. There was a full service history from new until the year I bought it. The car had the full service shortly after I bought it. From the history just looks to have had routine service parts. Now a clutch is needed. Previous advisories from MOT test were for rack ends and rear shock absorbers so I am expecting those to need changing in a year or so. In comparison to other mk1 Avensis I don't feel mine has covered a high mileage. Avensis were and still are very well represented on private hire taxi fleets and I think early cars are capable of 200,000 with routine servicing and 250,000 if looked after and treated kindly before serious work such as engine rebuilds.

  10. I have just reviewed the posts on my thread . To the positive posters , i thank you for your comments . The support of my suggestion that none illuminated steering wheel switches are penny pinching by Toyota and an annoying design over sight are encouraging . It follows that if you cannot see the switches to operate them at night , you become distracted , which becomes a safety issue . To the negative posters , our bluetooth police ,forum safety officer and braille switch supporters i worry about you venturing out at night in your cars . How anyone could argue that illuminating the four unlit switches on the steering wheel would distract them , when at the last count 31 other switches on my yaris illuminate when i put the lights on , is beyond me . Illuminated switches , on the floor near the handbrake , on the door handles ,across the dashboard around the media / nav and climate controls have never been distracting just really usefull . Not forgetting the illuminated speedo , fuel gauge , eco meter clock , trips and 26 warning lights . What would be really helpful would be if a clever techy bloke could advise whether there is a wiring fix because it wouldnt surprise me to hear that the switches do illuminate but are not wired up because Toyota saved on six inches of wire .

  11. It seems perfectly reasonable to me to want to have illuminated switches. In the past, I've found it far more distracting to NOT find the switch regardless of whether I was trying to locate it by sight or touch.
