  1. Egr is clean, works fine ( so I was told) I have checked the egr pipe and it was clean. As technician told me, the problem is that out of 27 times the actuator should move it moved only 2 times... I wonder how they could check it since it's a mechanical part, has no sensors... Well perhaps ecu stores some kind of timing changes...

  2. hi guys , before a week i put in my japanese iq about 58000km on the clock a STP fuel injector cleaner , i know that i have the old version of egr valve but never before i noticed any delay on accelarating , now after about 2 full fuel fillngs i noticed that my car delays on starting /accelarating in traffic lights ,in alts / stops ? my mechanic told me that the egr valve maybe get the "craps" of my engine system. Does anyone have the same issue before??? As i live in Cyprus and i brought the car from Japan does anyone knows if they will change this egr for free as it was an issue in this model ??? please help ...

  4. Food for thought, a quote from Pistonheads forum 3 years ago - “The biggest problem with them is that they let all the soot and rubbish from the exhaust clog up the inlet. This not only lowers performance but makes the emissions worse and reduces engine life - it's a fantastic own goal by the environmentalists. They may work OKish when the engine is new but after just 10,000 miles they can clog up, fail to close properly, waste boost pressure, increase emissions etc Black it off and if possible, clean the inlet manifold - your engine will run much smoother, quieter, be more economical and make the same power it ought to have done and the emissions will be lower than with a clogged up, dirty, leaking engine. I believe they were fitted as a result of an EU directive, a political solution to a problem which didn't exist rather than an engineering solution to a genuine problem”. Back to me - I did not see the parts list of my cars modification and I have had no problems since. If your problem persists perhaps you did need a new EGR valve all along

  5. Hi Lucy I have PM'd you with a brief extract of the key points in the letter I used to convince Toyota to fix my EGR valve problem under warranty. Good Luck !

  6. Yes I am aware that they do not change the actual EGR valve, I guess that the old pipe set up is more prone to getting the EGR valve blocked ???? I run BG44 cleaner through my IQ every 6 months plus only use shell V power, and give it a blast at high revs every now and then to clear it out, not sure if this is all required just do it anyway. Any views on that ?

  7. Same here Peter, If i slow down to a crawl then need to pull away quick, then the car responds very quick but if i have actually stopped then it can be a bit of a slow pull away. I put mine down to the larger wheels but not sure if its constant. I think it depends if the road is flat or down hill. Certainly trying to pull away up hill is not good Not hesitant like with the old EGR but a bit gutless (under powered) David

  8. From other forums third party warranties are fraught with cover limits, get outs, etc. Before you buy have a look at forums like Honest John, Car4play, etc. Very few people have good things to say about these warranties - whether they're from the AA, RAC, Warranty Direct, etc.

  9. Not really the flappy flick over falling apart guide showed no equivalents to the battery and air filter. Didnt want one just checking. Test the knowledge of the staff, just like Maplins ,hopeless. Was a big store over 2 levels. As commented before. The discount card is not important to me. I am probably one of the biggest contributors to the iQ forum, using my own time to visit Toyota and find info for people getting prices. Detailing modifications and bringing lots of people to this site having found my posts on google and joined to mail me. I have sent satnav operating system files all over the world for people who have corrupted theirs when their battery has discharged. I have also done modifications personally to members cars who have felt they are unable to do it for themselves. So i think i contribute enough without paying for the privilege David.

  10. Here's what happened to me : I noticed there was an issue with my car when I left it for service at Toyota a few weeks ago. They gave me an Aygo with the same engine for a day, while my iQ was in service. And boy, I felt a huge difference ! When I came back, I told the guy at the service desk I was surprised and asked him to confirm that it was the same engine. He said yes, and told me that maybe the difference was due to different gearing ratios in the gearbox... I was a bit skeptical, but I had nothing to reply, so I left. THEN, I saw this thread. So today I came back to him and told him "remember ? I told you I was surprised when I drove the Aygo, I think my car has an issue" and he told me "I'm not sure, come back tomorrow for a test drive with the lead technician". So tomorrow I'll drive but I won't leave the place until I have secured an appointment for the fix. I will come with a print of the TSB. The fact that I felt the difference when I drove the Aygo with the same engine, WITHOUT prior knowledge of this fault, is a definite proof that there is indeed a real loss of power in my car. But this does not mean the problem affects all the iQ.

  11. My View: EGR valve should be replaced as a recall item. Toyota are being very unprofessional not doing this. Rear Suspension knocks, I noticed this on two other IQ's i test drove before I purchased mine, seems to be a common IQ issue.

  12. Check my post on the egr thread regarding v power and 10,000 miles of use - not worth it. 9 miles isn't very far for a diesel, even if the engine has reached operating temp.

  13. Great to hear Kash :) A little update on my long issue with mine... Finally the car was booked in Thur and was ready today. Feels like a different car now, much smoother, miles better on take off, no stalling or jerkyness in 1st gear. Toyota replaced the following parts on my receipt: "Checked customer problem, reporting a lack of power or hesitation and happens intermittantly. Checked and confirmed fault. Requires new catalyst converter, downpipe, new gaskets and inlet spacer as per repair bulletin. Supplied and fitted as above and tested. Fine now." So there you have it. Think the mechanic said £998 worth of work carried out, billed to Toyota. Here's a few photos for anyone uncertain of what has been replaced.... Old EGR Valve New EGR Valve New catalyst and downpipe Big thanks to David and a few others on here for supplying the bulletin number and helpful advise.
