  1. Hi Richard, I bought an iQ3 (on a 10 plate) at the start of May and I've absolutely loved it ever since. Good choice.

  5. Continuing on with the problem of my Rain Sensing wipers only working at high speed even on a dry day with blazing sun and no sign of rain, I decided that I should get the Auto feature checked out by Mr 'T'. As my car is a November 2009 model it is now out of guarantee and Mr 'T' would make a charge for performing a Diagnostic check on my auto wipers. When I collected the car from Mr 'T' the worksheet stated 'Checked and reset system all ok'. to my horror the Auto Wipers were still displaying exactly the same fault as before. In desperation I again searched through messages on our Owner's Club Site, this time I came across a similar thread to this one and a member mentioned that he had, had partial success by unplugging the windscreen sensor at a point behind the central rear view mirror. I unplugged my sensor thus disconnecting the auto feature, but to my amazement I now have genuine Intermittent Wipe facility. Not only this, but the ring on the stalk that should change the sensitivity of the Auto wipers, now gives me a choice of 4 intermittent wiper timings - Yippee, I am delighted..

  6. I'll try and fill in some of the gaps that the Toyota guides can furnish you with already. If there's anything obviously missing, just drop a comment here and I'll do my best to answer it for you. The Toyota link (Which I've found invaluable so far) is http://www.toyota-tech.eu/ To start. Remove the door runners and kick plates by simply giving them a good yank (There's going to be a lot of that throughout BTW). Then get on your knees (Both sides of the car and you'll find a bolt at the bottom of the plastic trim near the floor: In the passenger footwell the plastic below the black rounded edge should now pull out. Start at the bottom on the left and work upwards. Then work across the top and down the RH side. It should just come away. The back of the panel looks like this (If it helps for clip placement). View is upside down as it would clip back in as you revolved it upwards from the bottom of the pic (If that makes sense). You are left with something like this: Underneath the steering wheel the plastic trim has a rectangle in the middle. This is an airbag and you DO NOT need to remove it !!!!! Again, work around it taking out any obvious bolts and either remove, or as I've done, leave it hanging into the footwell. Time to pop out the ends of the dash front, here And the same the other side. If it helps. Pull the door rubbers away from the door surround to give you access. MAKE SURE they are pushed fully back before you shut the doors again. Back to the passenger footwell. The big black bit (The soft dash front) can now pull clear. This bit: Grab it both sides at the bottom and pull directly towards you. With that out. The same can now be done with the speedo surround and cover. Again pull towards you and it'll pop out. Leaving this: That's Part 1 for now folks. I'll try and get in a few more pictures to explain more as I go. Any questions, as I say, please feel free. Si

  7. Hello to everyone. We bought a new iQ3 3 weeks ago because on paperwork it ticked all of the boxes. And after driving it for this short amount of time..... it has surpassed even my expectations. My wife loves this little car. I have owned, driven and worked on more cars than most people ever will, and this tiny little car is up there with the best. Well done Toyota! Or should it be well done Lexus? I'm even contemplating buying another one (second hand) and seeing how far it can be modified without spoiling it. Does the iQ Club have any meets lined up? As I would like to know a lot more about these cars.

  13. I know this does not apply to me, having a first generation Avensis, but if Clives fix works on his version, will other models with this auto wiper function have a similar cure. Any owners with the fault should give it a try and report back. If everyone has the same result, then this could be considered a fix.

  15. Based upon the above posts it sounds like Toyota are "beginning to accept" that almost every early IQ will need this mod sooner or later ? It's a pity that everyone has had to go though all this to get them to begin to accept it ! Considering they have been aware of a design fault issue for a long time now. Perhaps they thought that some unmodified IQ's would not develop the fault at all (unlikely in my view) or the owners would pay for the mod ? Or the car would die one way or another before it was needed ? Or people would just "put up" with the problem ? When and if my IQ "passes away" I will be a buying a KIA with good reviews a 7 year warranty and a better health record than the Toyota IQ. Once bitten by a poor experience is enough for me. Credibility once lost is not easily regained from me. I'm sure now that I have said that (the above) there will be a few posts about KIA problems coming up on this forum ! I like a good debate so - Any takers ?

  17. Hi all, well, the process for requesting this got corrected on Toyota was fairly simple. I spoke with customer relations on the phone and they requested that the dealer speak with them directly. The dealer phoned and talked through the issue and then had to complete an online warranty form (even though the car is 2 years out of warranty). This was done yesterday at 5.30pm and the result on the decision was made by 11.30am today, so a vary quick turnaround! The good news is that Toyota accepted the claim and paid for the lot! I was amazed! Just goes to show that if you don't ask, you don't get! What great customer service. So all I paid out for was a bottle of bubbly for the lovely lady who helped me at the dealer and saved myself £1400. I hope this is helpful to anyone else who might go through this process. And I must say thank you to you guys on here for giving me the relevant info and drawing my attention to it being a known problem. Virtual hugs :)

  19. Firstly, I'm just saying, a contribution to the thread.....................it'd only have stood on my garage shelf until out of date, however, the inflator would have been of use. In my negotiations there was never any mention of credit for the kit had I paid their £150 odd for the wheel and tools........ Secondly, (in the same 'devil's advocate' spirit as your post FB) had it been a year ago i.e. the other way around and they removed the spare wheel and tools because I wanted the gunk kit, would that have solicited the same 'why wouldn't they' reply?

  20. Why wouldn't they if you didn't want it?

  21. I insisted on the spare and tools else no deal, however, they removed/kept the gunk kit........

  23. I'm shocked by just how many people treat space savers as spare wheels. They aren't! They are purely for you to put on and drive to a tyre shop and get the damaged one repaired/replaced. You can clearly tell people haven't just fitted them due to the brake dust etc on them, they also fail to pay attention to the max speed rating of the tyre and shoot along the motorway at 80mph thinking everything is fine. My ex works for VOSA and they stop lots of people with them on and prohibit the vehicle till they get the proper tyre sorted. Sent from my iPhone using Toyota OC

  24. Ben, it could be off centre because the tracking has been adjusted all on one side? If it is done equally on each side steering wheel should stay central.

  25. If your oil level is increasing just replacing the DPF will not cure it, as you have seen in the video there is a whole set of tests & repairs to be done/carried out to stop the fault. In all the repairs we have done at my dealership none have needed a new DPF ( they have all cleared during a forced regen ) all have needed new short motors, ECU reprogramming & some have needed new injectors. Also Toyota Europe have extended the warranty for Oil level increasing / Oil consumption on the later 6 speed 1ND engines to 5years/160000kilometers subject to reasonable service history so I would take your car to your dealer and get it repaired under warranty.

  26. Hi Rob, just joined club. Aygo on order. Planning to do some smaller changes to it(as it's new) yours looks smart. Very smart .Have sorted roof spoiler(ebay) fancy larger wheels, any ideas? will get TRD decals rear screen & side stripes I don't know about the modifying new cars but be careful with your warranty. You may loose it if you add spoiler or alloys yourself. Decals and stripes shouldnt affect your warranty as same as modifications inside the car like seat covers, trims around dashboard or neons somewhere in interior, better speakers/sub. By adding everything i did on my car my insurance went up from 280 to 440/year. Im pretty sure you will loose warranty if you add spoiler and/or alloys/or tint windows.

  27. The underside of the dash looks like this As you can see the passenger airbag on the right and all the heater vents running through the whole setup. All this can be disconnected but for what I required it wasn't necessary. Si

  28. Part 2: With the speedo cover off undo the 2 screws that hold the speedo assembly in and gently pull towards you. When you can get to the connectors disconnect them both & put the speedo somewhere safe The steering column surround 'should' just come apart in 2 parts. There's a round plug on he right hand side that just pops out to help get the 2 bits apart. Here's a couple of pics to show where we're at with it Now it's onto the A pillars (Or if that doesn't mean anything to you the first thing that goes from the roof lining to the dash that touches the windscreen). Unpop the bottom of the pillar and gently pull towards the middle of the dash. When you've got about an inch of clearance look about 2/3 of the way up and you'll see a brightly coloured hook. This needs to be turned through 90 degrees by pushing / twisting to release the A pillar. It'll just come away after that. By taking these out you'll expose the 2 bolts that secure the dash to the sides of the car. On the drivers side you will see a large plastic connector and a bolt in the A pillar frame. Obviously disconnect and undo the bolt. Only the central assembly left now. The central black section (Below where the heater controls normally are) again simply pulls off towards you. Leaving this Undo the bolt bottom centre of the picture and then grab ahold of the central column (Where the gearknob and handbrake are) and give a sharp tug upwards. Move the whole assembly backwards about an inch (Just to give clearance for the next bit). If it helps remove the sloping piece (Bottom left of the picture) by lifting straight up. Then pull out the black section with the 12v plug on it. Undo all bolts that you can see around the central uprights, disconnect the clear hose from either end, then pull towards then up to clear everything that's in the way at the base. This then leaves you in this position Undo any other bolts that are left restraining the dash and lift and gently pull the dash towards you. You'll probably have to lift the dash assembly up and over the steering wheel. NOTE: Pull gently and disconnect any and all remaining plugs that are still attached as it comes away. IT'S PROBABLY EASIER TO DO THIS WITH 2 PEOPLE THE FIRST TIME YOU DO THIS. this is the end result. Si

  29. Yeah, that soot is a really fine powder; Don't air-blast or vacuum, esp. in an enclosed space - This stuff is like printer toner and it'll go right through the filters of most vacuum cleaners!

  30. and be safe!!! That soot in an EGR valve has been burnt at very high temperatures and contains all sorts of nasties, use gloves and a mask, avoid breathing cleaning fluids and dust............unless your into that type of thing :D: Kingo
