  2. Well, now I feel like an idiot. Problem solved. Just in case anyone else has this the answer is simple. When you press the "display" button, you get a brightness and contrast button. I knew that already, and no amount of fiddling with those had made the camera image change. They only work on the map. BUT I just discovered that if you press the display button whilst the camera is actually showing, then you get four buttons instead of two. Brightness, contrast (which now actually do something) and also colour and tone. So after some twiddling it's all as bright and clear as you like, and not pink at all. Of course, you have to adjust these whilst in reverse, so you are being beeped at constantly but that's not a problem. So there we go, another little nugget of info to add to the forum. Mind you, it doesn't explain why it got (gets) better as it warms up.

  3. Well, after finally getting a test drive, I bought an Auris Hybrid Excel with Panoramic roof. I've had it a couple of weeks now and I'm loving it. It handles much better than the Prius. It's quieter, no rattles and handles the poor roads better. It is smaller and leg room in the back isn't as good. But the boot with the more upright hatchback is more practical. I do miss the HUD and takes a bit of getting used to a handbrake again instead of a footbrake. It's more like a traditional car with dials instead of digital speedo. It feels more solidly built. The doors make a nicer thud when you close them. SatNav even when I pick fastest route tends to take me off main roads and down some narrow lanes. I do miss the voice recognition. But then I've got heated front seats and mirrors that close in when I power off. It's swings and roundabouts, but I am very happy with it. The few missing items are well made up by the ride comfort even with 17" tires. When (if) we ever get some dry fine days, I'll clean her up and take some photos for the gallery. Oh, those so called professional Auris car reviews I read are so wrong about this car.

  6. I've not had an estate either but, as Konrad says with the hatchback, there's an access panel in the boot for changing bulbs. There's a "board" which all the bulbs plug into, and the whole thing comes off by unclipping some clips (pushing them to one side IIRC). Remove the board and swap the bulb before you start checking wiring etc.

  9. Ok this is straight from the horses mouth (my Toyota contact) They do have a 5yr good will warranty. When its outside that period then its at the discretion of customer relations who will only move if you have a full toyota service history. I know this for definite as i tried to do this for another member but fell down on the service history. At present you dont know if thats the fault you have. If it is you can rectify the problem for up to another 60k miles by replacing the inlet manifold No1 which is what gets sooted up causing hesitancy when accelerating from low speed. Or you could remove it and clean the ports in it. The symptoms are not as you describe though David

  11. your car is 4 years old, have you ever had an aircon service (recommended every 2 years)? Do you use the aircon regularly? As above it could be the pollen filter. I don't think that Toyota will fix it for free but an aircon service is usually ~£39 at my local Mr.T.

  12. Googled this and it appears the gps aerial for a gen3 is behind the steering wheel on lhd cars. Now whether it's behind the wheel on RHD cars or behind the glove box is a different matter. It appears a number of owners in the US have had issues with their satnav doing exactly what the op is describing and it is a service bulletin software update to correct. Some owners had the aerial and satnav units replaced and still the problem occurred. As the op has only had this problem since it was back at the dealers, it makes me wonder if they've changed his software by accident? Perhaps putting it back to a previous version? Or maybe did a master reset when they installed the new 12volt?

  13. The aerial on top of the gen3 prius is just the FM aerial - nothing to do with GPS. There will be a separate GPS aerial for that. The screenshot suggests that the GPS aerial isn't working (or not there). However, the past couple of days, GPS reception in my area has not been good but it does manage to find a few sats rather than none at all.

  15. If it's running on 2 cylinders and cutting out you really do NOT want to be running it as you will be damaging the catalytic converter and they're not cheap. Check the following link to see if there are any outstanding recalls on the car; http://www.toyota.co.uk/owners-info/recall-checker I'm not right up on IQ recalls as Mrs Cabbie sorts hers out (she owns an IQ). But I'm sure there are some egr valve issues with the IQ. Someone will put you right soon, but double check that above link first (assuming you're in the UK).

  16. Hi, i know some people use the dearer stuff every 4th tankful just to clean the engine out so assuming you fill up weekly once a month it certainly won't hurt to spoil your car with the dearer stuff, it's a saving you can't see but i honestly believe it will keep the internals of your engine in better condition. Mike.

  17. not had the air filter changed for a while How longs a while? over 10,000? How do you reset the ecu after I have replaced the air filter and given it some redex? leave the negative battery lead off for 30 minutes. One other question, what is the best way to clean the MAF whilst I am changing the air filter? any electrical contact cleaner or a MAF cleaner will do. The engine light came on after some heavy acceleration in 2nd gear if that sheds any light on things. It needs to be plugged to get an idea where to start. Code reader's are cheap enough to buy from the internet and may come handy in the future. Thanks

  18. The V-Power Petrol has 25% more additives than the dino fuels. These posh fuels are a semi synthetic GTL (Gas To Liquid) rather than the stuff that comes out of ground. I wouldn't run my diesels or Petrol motors on anything else. My view is that you might pay a bit more @ the pumps! But it could save you a load of dosh if your diesel fuel pump goes due to these Ultra Low Sulpher Diesels. It's horses for courses at end of day :)

  19. It's a tricky subject. Certainly higher octane petrol doesn't really do much unless the engine has been designed to take advantage of it. You may get a slight boost as most engines have a slight extra leeway to avoid detonation at sea-level on poorer fuels but it won't be much. The arguably more useful advantage of the 'super' fuels is they have more cleaning agents and can give the fuel system a good clean, removing gummy deposits and improving fuel flow. That said, petrol is a pretty powerful solvent already and burns pretty cleanly so this is not such a big issue. With diesel it's a different story; Better cetane ratings will benefit any diesel engine unlike higher octane with petrols, and they also benefit from the more powerful cleaning agents for keeping the delicate injectors in good shape. I find my D4D runs noticeably smoother on V-Power diesel than normal diesel and it helps stave off the performance drop I used to get from driving it in town so much (I assume due to the injectors getting crudded up).. However, there are downsides too; All those cleaning agents are not fuel, so there is less energy per litre in V-Power fuels. It burns more completely than normal diesel which offsets this a bit, but I find I get lower mpgs with V-Power than, say, Sainsburys! In your case, I think the FuelSave is a good compromise; Is cheaper regular diesel but has the extra cleaning agents of the V-Power stuff.

  20. Hi All, I've had both Prius's but then changed to the Auris Exel Hybrid, Why, because i was swindled on the warranty, (early Prius buyer) and did not want to pay out for an additional warranty every year. i got a good deal on the part exchange which clinched it for me. Pros Panoramic roof. Much better Ride. Better Finish and more solid trim. Much better Satnav. Better seats more comfortable. Cons Instrumentation Poor especially Speedo No spare, (but haggled with dealer and got one thrown in) but you sacrifice a bit of boot space. Boot Panel don't lock down. Head room can be a bit tight (with panam roof) 90% of the time theres only 2 of us so hence why we went for the smaller Auris, all that said would i buy another Toyota? Hmmm our Dealers where i live are all under one group L***********S lol and they own most of the Toyota dealers in a 30 mile radius, Ive family who own Toyotas and the consensus of opinion is that they are not great on customer service, I've drove Toyota for 35 years now and think it might be time to look at other makes as i think Toyota are slipping, Had high hopes for the Lexus but compared to the Prius at the time it was a Backward step, well Hey -Ho lets see what comes out in the next few years.

  22. We got our Auris Tourer last week. I also read the reviews on what car etc which present it in a poor light. I really like it. We chose the auris over the prius because although It is probably smaller in the rear seats than the prius but has better boot space. I haven't noticed it being harsh over the bumps and when asked by passers by about the car, we always comment how quite it is to drive. I have the icon model and it does come with climate control.

  23. I bought my Touring Sports a month or so ago, I saw the write ups before I bought it and the stuff written like "it is not a fun car to drive", "the dash presentation is poor" etc etc. I wasn't looking for a fun car , merely a comfortable car to drive - which it is. Yes, the dash presentation is a little so so but I am getting used to it. There is a bit of noise too but no more than some diesels and I am sure I will get used to it, it is not a problem, just a different noise from other cars. My mpg seems to be improving all the time as the car settles in, 55 mpg on a brim to brim fill this week. One annoying thing is the Sat Nav screen being poor to see as it seems to suffer from reflected light (even with the sky roof closed). Other than that I am more than happy with my new car! Joe
