  2. im off on holiday this week and finally went to the scrapyards for a couple of bits of trim I needed replaced the centre console with an armrest type that also has a rear accessory socket for the kids to plug in their chargers - also whilst console was off I bought a spare accessory socket and soldered off back of original lighter socket to plug my dash cam charger into it all neat and tidy hidden away got a missing drivers seat handle for reaise / lower of seat that was missing since I bought the car. got a drivers door pin switch as mine failed and was a pain not having interior light operating with the door, also the failed switch messed up the alarm priority and gave false alarms or tried to relock doors after 30 secs - but its working as it should now got a glove box type centre dash console to replace the useless satnav / trip computer - also removed the dvd unit from under passengers seat. tried to get silver dash trim strip to change mine from black but didn't look right without the door card parts so worked out too dear for door cards and I scrubbed that idea. tried to get a new gearknob and all 5 speed ones were all gone so went to Toyota to try get a chrome insert for my gearknob - they don't list it as a separate part and the whole knob is £80.80 probably plus vat - maybey just need to get a nice aftermarket one ill get some pictures tomorrow

  3. Welcome to the club Roy. Was the engine turning over as usual or was it slow to do so and that is why you charged the battery? Also did it help the cranking speed after that? If not it could be a battery with a dud cell as charging it would still not provide the full 12 volts needed or indeed the starter may be at fault. How old is the battery? The original battery fitted was often considered by some members as a bit on the small size ampere delivery wise and fitted the same one as on the diesel model Your car is now 16/17 years old so if the battery is that old it has not done too bad I don't think I would fancy trying to push start it as there is a lot of drag on a 4x4 and towing is not recommended as it can damage the transmission train Del

  4. To check if its the starter heres a good way. Get someone to help you and push the car on a flat road then get in and start the car while moving. If it starts like this then you have to get a new starter motor. Car will start when moving if its starter.

  5. If you want a hatchback then you have to buy a 2003-2008 model (known as a T25). There was a facelift mid-2006. If you want a saloon or estate then either the T25 or it's 2009> replacement (T27) offer those. If you want a petrol then I would suggest that the best vfm would be to get a run-out (late 07 or an 08) model 1.8 in TR trim - this gets you a lot of toys but not leather or powered seats. You won't get the same level of toys for the same money on an early T27. The earlier T25 1.8 VVTis could have an issue with oil consumption (supposedly fixed mid-2005) so I would suggest not looking at pre-facelift cars. hth, any other questions fire away :)

  10. You can extend the Toyota warranty to 7 years I did with my Yaris covers club Toyota as well. I paid monthly and it was just under £30 a month which I thought was good as it was still with Toyota!

  11. I drove an aygo at launch and found it tinny compared to my IQ personally I wouldn't buy one. I also think they need a bigger engine choice. My mum has an aygo and loves it! As for the X on the front I saw a black one the other day with a black X it looked much better. Good luck with your search for a new car

  12. Congratulations on your new purchase! I wish I could help you look out for problems - but over 6 years and over 70,000 miles (taking it to a total of 130,00) I didn't have many... What went wrong with my 1.6 2001 VVTI model: Front wiper motor broke at 110,000 miles (replaced for £180). Alternator died at 120,000 miles (replaced for £200). The one and only time it failed to start, ever. Battery died at 125,00 miles (replaced for £30). Exhaust finally fell off due to rust at 129,000 miles (replaced for £140). At this point it was 14 years old and covered in road salt, so fair enough. That's a total of £550 over 6 years for failed parts, and not one of those in the first 50,000 miles after I bought it. Many people I know have spent that much on other cars within the first 2 years of owning them. And if I'd shopped around for the parts or done the work myself it would've been cheaper. Otherwise it was just the usual consumables - tyres, wipers and bulbs. It did indeed burn oil at a significant rate; every 3 months or so I would have to top it up. I considered this a very minor expense and inconvenience given the almost complete lack of other problems with the car - just something to keep an eye on occasionally. Other than that I did virtually no maintenance other than checking tyre pressures and giving it the occasional clean, then each year got it serviced at an independent garage and only ever had one MOT advisory (for advance notice of the rust on the exhaust). You could take it to a Toyota specialist if you like, but these are fairly simple cars and there are millions of them around so any decent mechanic should be able to work on them. In terms of reliability it was bombproof - almost literally; in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world if I couldn't find a Hilux I would get another Corolla. I may have just been lucky, but if you take care of yours then I hope you'll have as many miles and years of trouble-free motoring as I did.

  17. A sensor needs to be disconnected to remove the air filter housing and change the air filter so it could well have been that one. Sounds like a simple mistake to me. If they apologised and rectified the fault straight away, I'd be happy enough with them, Hard to see what more they could have done? Craig.

  18. These last few days its been a bit colder in the mornings and my verso seems to take a bit longer to start, very splutery and smokey, and once its going it takes a moment or 2 before it takes the rev properly. The rest of the day it goes fine, plenty of power and stops and starts no problem. Going to change the fuel filter to see if it helps but was just wondering has anyone had similar problems? Ive only had the car since the start of summer so havent experienced cold morning starts before. It has 70000 miles
