  1. Had an 2001 Corolla 2.0 D4D. Sat in my driveway for 4 years, had lost the keys to it. Found the keys and charged battery, started right up first time. Had a full tank of stale petrol, thought why not lol, drove it and nothing happen, old oil inside, most of it was probably dried up, still no problem. Everything seemed to work, only the bodywork was in tatty condition as it was parked under a big tree and it had gunk all over the car which wouldent come off. In the end sold it and someone who came to take it took it to Nigeria the next day! Goes to show how good these engines are and even when you neglect them, they're still loyal to you. If this was a VW or any German car, it would of refused to even start up.

  2. They Jazz would have been a proper CVT though (Belt / Band driven) where as the Toyota Hybrid CVTs are not, and as such wouldn't necessarily behave the same, but agree it sounds like left foot braking.

  3. I would seriously suggest you check the health of your 12v battery - especially if it's the original. I have never heard of alarm issues on a Prius caused by wifi or bluetooth, but I have heard probably hundreds of reports of Prius alarms going off when the 12v is failing. They generally last 5 years or 80k miles. I'd guess you're on your second 12v if you have a 2005. Don't rely on the car telling you it's ok and don't rely on most dealers telling you either as generally they rely on the car. There are tens of threads on here about failing 12 volts with details of how to check.

  4. Yes indeed. The opening mechanism seems excessively 'cute' but that's the way it works. The satnav screen acts as a rather large door to the CD unit but you simply open it up, pop in a CD, close it again, set the CD to play and switch back to satnav. And an mp3 CD can contain enough music to last for hours so you don't need to switch too often even on a very long drive. Enjoy!

  5. I previously had an SR180 (2008 model, 2009 registered) and suspect that will have had the same audio as the XT5 you refer to. I used to burn mp3 CDs and play those - that worked well. Sadly it didn't have a USB input for audio and, as you suggest, the Bluetooth connection worked well for hands-free phone but not music streaming.

  7. hi graham & welcome to the forum :) Tbh I expect that you will have changed cars before FM is switched off in the UK ... Or that Toyota/the unit oem stops issuing updates deeming your unit as too old to support. You can get 3rd party head units, i don't think that later Toyota units have the same fittings (although there may be adaptors) - no doubt people with more expertise in that area will weigh in. or you can just buy a Garmin/TomTom etc. satnav (if you buy carefully you can get 1 with free "lifetime" updates). You can sell your European discs on ebay.

  8. Personally I think your friend wasn't familiar with an automatic and went to press the clutch with his left foot and hit the brake pedal instead. If anyone has ever done this they'll know you stop on a sixpence. Driver error. End of.

  9. Totally agree with unclepoo in post #2! Don't know who taught your friend that it was OK to put the car into neutral at any time whilst the car is moving but there was a time when such an action would have been an instant driving test fail!

  10. I`m not sure you want from Toyota....You let someone drive your car, who drove in such a way I would call bad practice at best in a manual car....and plain stupid in an automatic or hydrid....if you end up with a large bill for repairs, send it to the driver at the time.

  11. It is a harmonic dampner and can be found fitted in various places such as Suspension cross members, subframes and exhausts and have been fitted to reduce/remove vibrations that cause noise and vibration in the cabin/chassis
