  1. Something I've noticed on the IQ range is that unless you know what to look for there is no way of differentiating between an IQ1, 2 or 3. Other models such as Ford Ka 2 and Skoda Roomster 2 have little number 2's to the right and above the model badge. I went on ebay and tried a universal 2 which when put on looked awful but have now found the ideal badge. It's off a skoda roomster and I managed to get it off ebay for 1.99. Looks quite good me thinks. I've attached some pictures.

  2. I don't have a MK1 but if I did, I'd firstly try the spare fob if I had one, then I'd look for the sender unit on the vehicle to find out how the antenna/aerial is situated and make sure it is connected properly. If I didn't have a spare fob I'd get hold of one (I would not want to be without a spare) and use this to program the remote: 1.STICK THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IN AND OUT 2 TIMES WITHOUT TURNING IT . 2.CLOSE AND OPEN DOOR 2 TIMES ENDING IN OPEN DOOR. 3STICK THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IN AND OUT 1 TIME WITHOUT TURNING IT. 4.CLOSE AND OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR 2 TIMES ENDING IN OPEN DOOR. 5.STICK KEY IN THE IGNITION (DO NOT TURN OR REMOVE KEY) 6.CLOSE DRIVER'S DOOR. 7.TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF IN THE IGNITION. 8.REMOVE KEY FROM THE IGNITION.(IF ALL WENT WELL ALL DOORS WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY TO LET YOU KNOW THE SYSTEM IS READY TO ADD A REMOTE) 9.PRESS BOTH LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE FOR 1 SECOND 10. WITHIN TWO SECONDS PRESS AND RELEASE LOCK BUTTON.AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WILL HONK OR BEEP TWICE TO LET YOU KNOW IT HAS ACCEPTED THE NEW REMOTE. Then check the new fob to see if the performance improved. Hope this helps....

  4. Some people have had it done FOC by toyota, but I suspect that would only apply if the car was still in warranty. Loved the Fish & Chips at the Mermaid Barmouth. I also went there. As good as my 'local' The Harbour Fish shop Teignmouth Cheers Colin

  5. My 59 reg IQ3 originally displayed a maximum of 60 mpg. I mentioned this to the service department and they fitted a new unit displaying up to 99.9 mpg under warranty at 6073 miles. It resulted in the odometer being reset to 0 though.

  8. Getting your car serviced – independent or franchised dealer? by Rob Hull, Senior Cars Researcher Transport & Travel 2 August 2012 VN:F [1.9.22_1171] We’re more satisfied with the servicing we receive from independent garages than that supplied by franchised dealers – according to the 2012 Which? Car Survey. So how could franchised car servicing improve? We ask thousands of motorists each year about their car servicing experience. And 10 times out of 10 the independent garages receive better satisfaction ratings than authorised manufacturer servicing.Take Toyota as an example. The 2,272 Toyota owners who had their car serviced at a franchised dealer gave those dealers an average customer score of 80.3 per cent. But the 1,063 Toyota drivers who had their car serviced independently gave an 88 per cent customer score on average. So why should an independent out-rate a garage that has direct links with the manufacturer of the car itself? I sympashise hope someone knows your area?

  9. Do me a favour Alan, check your Auris MMT handbook and see if it tells you to put the car in gear when you park it, I know mines did. Matter of fact when I reported the car to the dealers for the sticking in gear problem their Toyota Trained Technician left a message for me with reception saying the MMT was not supposed to be parked in gear! I asked to see him and queried where he got that information from. He replied it was "In the back of his mind somewhere from a talk he had from Toyota". When I showed him what the handbook said - it even says to be sure that 1 or R is showing in the selector window when you park - he was a trifle nonplussed. What chance do you have of getting your car sorted properly when you're dealing with that calibre of techie?
