Craggle was right. Talking to the Toyota Service Manager he confirmed that the clutch pedal needs to be right down to the floor - I.e. more than required to change gear. Apparently it can be adjusted, but now I know I just always floor the pedal completely - every time. So problem resolved.

Hi, Is it actually the engine itself which is at fault? Black smoke, poor acceleration etc are more likely to be an issue with the EGR, or the injectors. I would be quite surprised if a diesel engine was worn out at 170k. Personally I would avoid a 2.2 unless it was from at least 2009 onwards when the known problems with the 2.2 were apparently fixed.

Hi, 1. thought mine opened more at 22-23 but then for the rest is seems to stay stationary; perhaps thats because the air temp is not changing, unlike actual motoring/heating As far as I remember when I looked, the other motor changes the air flow direction according to the mode selected. 2. When testing for heat I would set the direction so the single horizontal Arrow shows and its pumping the air out of the two main central vents by the radio and Auto Off Have read before with folk having heating problems that the passenger side can get warmer, assume that must be that the air can get out easier at that side or as you say the matrix is getting some heat on that side. Not aware that it a dual zone climate control as you would need two setting on the controls. 3. Think it sounds like you need to unclip those matrix hose pipes in the engine bay and attach some hose to one pipe and say using a funnel pour some water down and see if it readily flows out of the other side. 4. One thing I have read about on A/C cars, think it was an article in Car Mechanics that sometimes the damper flap, though the shaft is being turned by the motor or manual control, the actual damper flap is slipping on the shaft and staying shut; thouggt I was getting something like that at one time, but seems to have corrected itself. I'm 187 cm and it was unconfortable in the backseat, you can sit straight but your head touches the roof. The solution is to order the car without sunroof, without it, you have 4-5 cm more room.

When a Toyota pure EV is produced I reckon it will be a good un, that's what Toyota do.

All sorted. Had a fiddle while wating for wife outside the supermarket yesterday. This may take a bit off arm manipulation. With ignition turned off and all doors closed, press and hold down lock button. Turn on the ignition within 10 seconds and keep the button pressed for at least 5 seconds. The auto locking should now be turned off. This is opposite procedure to the vehicle handbook.
