  1. You will get bombed for hid/led conversion on internet forums. Just enjoy it and leave some people to their halogen. I have seen posts get modded and people get banned for having a different opinion to the mod or push them into some facts and clarity.

  2. I'm no VW expert, but there are lots of detail bits of design on VW group cars that Toyota don't seem to consider worth copying, or are slow to introduce, for example: loud horns, decent headlamps, global window closing, a/c cooled glove boxes, a thoroughly-thought-out trip computer, better quality paint and rust protection on the underbody, doors that don't flex as the window closes, heater vents for the rear footwells. Of course it's all about money and weight for lots of those things, but not all of them. There is an ingenious way you could adjust the trip computer fuel readings if you're really committed. Just change the wheels. I know, I know, I'll go and get me coat........ Happy New Year!

  3. I've found the figures I'm getting from full tank to full tank calculations are much more accurate on my 2019 RAV4 (about 1½-2% optimistic on average so far) than allother Toyotas I've logged over the last 19 years/350,000 miles or so which have averaged about 5% optimistic.

  4. Just under 4 mpg difference between real and measured, whenever I've checked (not often now).

  5. Thanks for coming back on this. I didn’t think that leds were a factory fit option ... but if your man says they were, there ought to be part numbers and the possibility of fitting pukka bits as an upgrade. (I’d hope they were an improvement over the widely disliked as being barely adequate standard units.) Maybe someone with appropriate access could check existence, price and availability? Are yours fitted with led bulbs that appear to be detachable, or some sort of all-in-one assembly like the BMW one that Gerg dissected? On a different tangent, my headlamp units were swapped under the Technical Bulletin programme (it wasn’t a recall - you had to moan at them, rather than getting a dealer summons via the DVLC). That was a slight improvement, but they are still poor compared to other cars I’ve owned or driven. Nowadays I (naughtily) keep the front fog lights on for peripheral illumination in the local lanes, even when there isn’t fog or falling snow - never been stopped for doing so. But I would like a better solution...

  6. Oil has been fine it had a full service back in October and have been checking it every week since due to the amount of mileage im putting on it, I had read on the forum there can be an oil drinking issue. I have done over a hundred miles today and no warning light recurrence as of yet. I know there is a pinhole blow in the exhaust so maybe it was a combination of that and it being freezing last night. I'll live in hope untill it recurs.

  7. Sound generators are intended to help people with visual impairments (ie. blind or partially sighted) identify there is an approaching EV or hybrid vehicle, which may be almost silent at low speeds. Nothing to do with people using mobile phones. About time people stopped making ridiculous assumptions about the legislation!

  8. It's probably best you start a new thread of your own with the issues you are having with your car.

  10. Finally got a test driver yesterday, sadly only the Design version.. but was impressed by the build quality. For me, it is between the Camry Excel and Lexus ES .... to be honest, not a lot in it. Interesting the dealer advised their target market is VW & Skoda, but they're taking customers from Lexus, which wasn't the plan ! There are some obviously differences... Price ... about 20% when discounts taken into account... also only 4.9% on the Camry, but 5.9% on ES Camry is quiet, but Lexus more so.. harder to notice the engine and road noise in the Lexus, but not sure if enough to make a difference to me decision. The touch screen in the Toyota is much better than the awful mouse pad in the Lexus.. much easier to use... otherwise both seemed to have very similar controls. Some of the features worked better in the Lexus (lane departure was just a warning alarm in the Camry, but actively adjusted the steering in the ES. Camry looked like a bigger boot, but possibly an optical illusion. Leather seats in Camry are clearly lower grade, but were perfectly fine... I'd say similar to what you see in a BMW/Merc (Lexus is way ahead of the German brands in that respect) Doors are equally massive on both ... this is my biggest worry...the car is very wide and not sure how it will work in a supermarket car park... never mind the reach to close the door... overall very impressed ... need a long think about the price difference and small variation in quality.

  11. Not surprised that HJ likes it to be honest - think the quote about appealing to those that don’t care what others think and want 400k mileage sits with me quite well- my LS400 is on nearly 300k and is not exactly something that impresses others which suits me just fine.
