It would appear I may have started a small argument! I only wanted to know how fast the official time of my car was!!!

Anyway, we are all entitled to our own opinions!!!

It doesn't really matter how fast the car is, it is all about respect.

Respect for the Car. (CTS, CTR, YARIS, MR2 whatever)

Respect for other road users and respect for yourself.

I love my car and wouldn't swap it for anything.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Right lets put an end to this silly little arguement! I work for Toyota so i drive all models everyday! A Corolla T Sport has got 187BHP, and the redline is at 8100 but dosnt hit the limiter until about 8500rpm! 0-60 times produced by Toyota are incorrect at 8.4secs. I have raced my mate in his Civic Type R whilst in a T Sport, we both sat on the traffic lights both holding the revs at 5000rpm and droped the clutch! Initially there wasnt anything in it until after 70 the Type R started pulling away!

And as for N/A MK2 MR2'S they havnt got a chance against the little corolla! Dont get me wrong the MR2 is quick but my AE86 RWD Corolla is as quick as one, but iam unable to stick with with the T Sport after 90mph in my corolla!

.. Can i ask a quick question? ... What is the logic in quoting slower speeds for your car. I am sure it does not fool the insurance companies not for 7.3sec :) .

Is i only to put a bit of space between the corolla and the celica ?

also can you say your position in toyota (to give some authority to your coments)~

Thanks

  • 6 months later...

I had to sign up to post a reply to this because it is hillarious.

A type R would absolutely destroy your Toyota and any toyota.

The only thing that can keep with a type r is a Mr2 Turbo.

I raced a Tsport to 100 in my Rover BRM and whooped it. They are slow.

Civic Type R = 6.6 to 60

Corolla = 8.4

And to the guy who said his corolla does 7.4 with optimax fuel you should just be put up against a wall and shot repeatadly until your limbs fall off from the amount of wounds you have received. You should be then put into your cruddy toyotta and placed into a destruction derby where all the other cars can crash into your dead corpse.

Thankyou.

I guess your quite young from your post

You are quoting figures which are rather biased the 8.4 is quoted by toyota to keep insurance costs down.  Think about it logically the cars almost have the same power and weigh the roughly the same, there will not be alot in it.  People on here more than accept the CTS is not quite as fast as the CTR but the more grown up CTR owners realise there is not that much in.

Anyway by your reckonging my clio cup 6.5 to 60 will smash your type r to small pieces so Neh neh nan nan neh!!!

The cool thing is that people like this mare me really happy! I'm so glad when I see that someone with a relatively fast car thinks the CTS is crap. When I will finally get it, i will love to see the look on his face on the next traffic lights!

I've seen a face like that when a friend drove me on his CTR (it was the second one here in russia). The feeling alone is worth roughly as much as the other guys car!

Arr bless him, I sometime wonder what is like living in Care Bear Land!

Mate a Corolla T-Sport would hang your BRM Rover out to dry every single time on a staight road, FACT!

The Type-R maybe a little quicker than the T-Sport but to be honest there %$( all in it in a straght drag, on the track the Civc would win hands down!

Oh by the way I had a Corolla T-Sport and changed it for a Type-R, so know both cars very well!

This thread has gone rather off-topic , , but for what it's worth I had a go at a 0-60 time in my 1-mth-old CTS over the weekend, when I was in Wales. On dry roads, with the Traction Control turned off, I managed to get it to 60mph in a shade under 8 seconds (using indicated speed, which is probably a bit on the slow side. Real time is prob just over 8 secs). This was the best time of several attempts at getting the revs right from standing. It was clear that the car could do better if only I could get the revs right from standing... which I'll practise at! Also I assume it will speed up, as it's still a newish car.

Electronic timing at Silverstone, factory standard 2003 car, plucky amateur in the driving seat: 7.26 sec.

You know you can search back though the archive and see that this has all been done before many times! :D

It's almost worth somebody writing an FAQ and getting it pinned by the mods.

Cheers

Paul.

ALL I wish to add is I have a cts and i know its faster to 60mph than 8.4 secs.

dont care what the "official toyota " figures are there have been enough tests to prove the lower figure(that includes our members). Not bothered about people saying it does this and it cant do that wait till jae 2005 and some of us nice cts owners will put it on the 0-60 track(if theres one)'

Cheers guys

Phil

Hi,

Toyota claims 8.4s for 0-62mph(100lm/h) not for 0-60mph(96.7km/H)!!!!!!

Below you can find out 2 sites wich proves that TS makes around

7s from-0- to 60mph(96.7km/h) and 7.4s-7.5s from 0-to 100km/h.

http://www.zeperfs.com/fiche367.htm

http://www.track-challenge.com/main_e.asp

http://www.zebustype-r.de/video/Beschleuni...e%20Diverse.htm

The hard point for TS is CORECT LUNCHED!

It must be high revs- 5k or so as well !

BTW mine got 6.82 from 0 to 60 mph(96.7km/h) but it has some mod as:

-TTE QUIQ SHIFT

-TTE LOWERING SPRINGS

- FRONT/REAR TRD SWAY BARS wich CHANGED 100% the handling of the car.

-TTE front strut bar.

Also I am going to replace Clutch & fly wheel.

That's interesting. I've wondered if making the suspension stiffer would improve the 0-60 time. The problem with the standard car is that it sits so far back on the rear axle and the front rises so high under hard acceleration that it must reduce the front wheel grip.

Is a sway bar what we call an anti-roll bar over here?

Cheers

Paul.

Hi Paul,

I got 6.82 from 0 to 60mph before instaling the Sway bars!

I let you know about the perf when I will get one!

Yes, Sway bars means anti roll bars!!!!!

Please also note that the grip under HARD ACCELERATION are reduced also!

But the REAL ADVANTAGE is coming from HANDLING of the car.

From stability and cornering point of view TS is NOW A REAL HOT HATCH!

Please be informed that TRD anti roll bars are:

-50 %- 55%(depend on the settings) and 118% stiffer than front/rear stock.

Front stock-22mm/TRD 26mm!!!!!!!!

Rear stock-20mm/TRD 26mm!!!

Regards,

Mircea

They are, but results like this make me wonder whether I should trust the site

Toyota Celica TS 192 180 225 7,4 7,4 1.21,2

Toyota Corolla TS 192 180 225 6,7 7,4 1.24,3

0,7 sec difference between Celica and Corolla??? In favour of the rolla?

Or mayb its proof once again that its all up to the driver with this engine???

For bzn,

When you will get your TS( asap i hope!) you will find out that 6.7s from 0-to 100km/h

is very, very, hard to be achieved!

But!We must admit that the test was made by the professional drivers from SPORTAUTO!Also the TS is much lazier on the track than Celica or,Type R,Peugeot,Renault Clio etc !That way I CHANGED MY sway bars and the springs as well.
