New Impreza!

Its not a special order car. Over in the US when they still sold the GT4 it was called the All-Trac. Maybe you remember it? Anyway was better than the Evo/Scooby in most ways. If they still produced them now we would be looking at 350bhp versions rolling off the line at least ;)

The All-Trac we got here was naturally aspirated and about 140 hp. Toyota has never sold anything with the performance of a WRX or WRX STI in the United States.

Not the same engine i think you'll find...

Subaru doesn't make very many engines and all of the current range are based on each other and it's been that way for at least 10 years (EJ engine family) My friend has the EJ-25. I'm not buying the piston ovaling story. I've surfed Subaru forums for a while and I've never heard of that problem. A quick Google search reveals nothing about Subarus and piston ovaling problems.

I never meant to dare compare the Impreza to the Supra or Lexus models. Instead compare the Impreza to Toyota's $20,000 5.4 sec 0-100 kmh AWD saloon.....oh wait.. THEY DON'T HAVE ONE.

Yes they do, just not for the US....

Toyota makes a $20,000(US) AWD car that does 0-100 kmh in 5.4 seconds and has AWD?

What car is that?

The scooby just isnt what people on here like/want, thats all it is.

You cant argue that the fiat Multipla is really good at what it does (carry lots of people), doesnt mean we HAVE TO like the ugly car/van thing

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, freedom of speech and all that....

....just that you are in the minority as most of us hate subaru's :)

I can see that. I guess I wouldn't argue if it were at all rational, instead of "we hate them because chav's drive them"

That is just asinine and I think it's more a case of sour grapes than anything, but I can understand that. I just direct my irritation at Toyota for not building something like the Impreza turbos, instead of hating Subaru for doing what WE ALL wish Toyota would.

That said, I do think Toyota makes nicer looking cars than Subaru, though the new Legacy is beautiful.

Subaru STi ... ... Sexually Transmitted Infection

What idiot came up with those initials for a car!

Never thought of that.

We don't use that term here at all, in the U.S. we say "Sexually Transmitted Diesease" or STD.

Either way, if you raced against a WRX STI you would be the one with groin discomfort.

Not a fan of Scumbarus .. it's what the maxers aspire too ..

Maxers with money buy EVO's and think they are better than the Scumbaru's.

Nice quick cars, but I don't like 4 door family wagons. Rather have a GT4 ST205 .. or a Caldina ST225 (if i needed 4 doors and a boot) ..

And the whole "cheap" thing  A BMX is cheap and toyota don't sell anything for £49.99. It obviously makes a BMX better than any Mr T car.

Been in few Scoobies .. and they are rapid, but I'm not a fan. Sit in a ST205, and yeah baby, now we are talking ..

Subaru would be NOTHING without Prodrive (just up the M40 ;))

I like the look of that. Anyone know how much that will sell for?

"well thats pretty :censor: handy because I ain't :censor: selling it... its a fact  ;)

I've surfed Subaru forums for a while and I've never heard of that problem. A quick Google search reveals nothing about Subarus and piston ovaling problems.

You don't know it exists, therefore it clearly doesnt.

I learnt about this fact from a guy that drives a (you guessed it) a Subaru! (legecy)

He was ranting at what useless car it was.... he got through 14 wheel bearings in 6 years! the interior is shoddy, and its drinks fuel for such a slow car... etc etc

I think you should re read my initial post, I did not mention "chavs" I just don't like them. The fact that subaru drivers tend to be tossers is totally unrelated, but it doesn't help.... You are clearly a fan, I am not.

Why am I still disgussing this?

I beleive in the piston ovaling thing could be a reality, I just don't think it could be a very widespread problem if I can find nothing about it on any Subaru forum or through Google, is all.

We all just have a difference of opinion.

I prefer to judge cars based on their merits, not the kind of people I think drive them.

I'm also not a blind brand loyalist.

When some of you guys get into your late 20s-early 30s and beyond maybe you'll learn to think a little more objectively.

I need to remember the average age around here.

Eh?

I don't think any of us are a 'Blind brand Loyalist', e.g Karma Supra has an early 80's 6 Series BMW coupe (a proper BMW!) as well as his Toyotas, as for me I like anything with wheels and an engine (just take a look at my 'Hobbies and interests' on my 'profile').

"When some of you guys get into your late 20's-early 30's ...."

I'm 35 and think objectively...

...thats why I like the Trans-am

Alright, then maybe that doesn't apply to you two.

You're still insane for liking the Trans-am though.

I cant see how someone who likes minis can like that!

Some people say you always like the vehicles you saw and experianced from your younger days. Hence I like Minis 'cause it's what I learned to drive in (and learned how to rebuild/work on cars). I like 70' and 80's sporty saloons (such as Escort Mexico, Vauxhall Frenza, Vauxhall magnum, Hillman Avenger Tiger from the 70's and Ford XR2, XR3, Golf GTi, Peugeout 205 GTi and most other hot hatches from the 80's) because it's what I liked and remember as a Teenager. I like military vehicles because alot of my fathers friends collected them and I myself are now involved with them in the course of my job.

As for liking the Pontiac Firebird Trans-am, when I went down London to live and work in the 80's I remember a lot of 'em running about and I just loved the sound and looks so I suppose they too hit a cord with my 'younger self'.

Bet you wished I hadn't explained now!

heh I think I get ya. The link just wasnt there - A mini, which handles like no other FWD car, uses virtually no fuel, and looks real good, compared to a car with a truck engine and kart springs, which uses a ridiculous amount of fuel, and doesnt go anywhere other than in a straight line!

WE have a mini too.. Mini rocks.. I love it, although I hate driving it :!Removed!: (sooo cramped!)

the response you get from other proper mini drivers is awesome!

I assume you are reffering to the flashing of lights and waving of hands :) !

Every mini driver greets every other mini driver in this fashion.

How tall are you? I'm 6ft 1" and have no probs driving a mini...

The Caldina ST225, admittedly they dont sell it over in the states but it is around and Toyota just chose not to let you guys over there have it. Its an Automatic too ;)

Thats the thing, they have. Just they dont release it outside of Japan :(

I'll agree with you that Toyota are insaine for keeping everything to themselves, the rest of the world should get these cars too

But i doubt it will happen....Toyota being focused more on F1 now than WRC we're going to see Toyota taking on Ferrari etc for big performance engines. Just as Honda are doing with their NSX.

Think its only Mitsubishi and Subaru who will keep playing at the 4cylinder turbo'd rally car game.

I'm 5'7", I just don't like cramped cars and the "sit up and beg" driving position.

I destroyed my elbow the other day hitting my funny bone on the inside of the door when re parking our mini.. I'm just used to the space in bigger cars!!!

Doesn't stop me thinking theya re seriously cool little cars though!

I think the subaru imprezzas are nice cars actually, but im not very keen on the SEAT front look of the new one..

nehow i think it must deserve some respect tho because it was the WRC (World Rally Champion, or somthing like that) and i think they are better than EVOs, but neways people are all entitlted to thier oppinions..

P.S i HATE minis!! ill jus hide from Karma's wrath now :P

If it wasn't for the 'Mini' (And it's designer the late Sir Alec Isigonis) there may not have been so many FWD cars (such as a Yaris). For the Mini pioneered the FWD 'package' of transverse mounted engine driving front wheels succesffully as per most small/compact cars do today!

I'm not claiming mini to be the first FWD car, for many others have done that such as the 1900's Spiker, 1930's Citroen 'Traction avant' and even the East German Trabant. It's just that Mini showed the world how it could be a compact successful design.
