  1. So after 93.000 miles Toyota repair your car and it then goes on for 35.000 more miles ? Im confused at what you expect ? In my trade we used ti get through Stihl saws and nail guns on a regular basis ! Why ? cos we hammered the damn things (forgive the pun) and it was a consequence of constant use that wore them out .. I do sympathise with anyone who owns a car with a 2AD series engine I really do but Im also just a bit confused as to what Toyota can do.. 93.000 miles before trouble is not indicative of a crap product just that it wearing out.. 7 Years or 111.000 miles is pretty !Removed! good and better than anyone else has ever done.. It is just unrealistic to expect more..

  2. My last comment on MPG My journeys up and down from central Scotland to the Midlands took me across country to Edinburgh then down the A701 from Peebles to Moffat which was about 120 miles then the balance of the 360 mile journey was motorway which was always at an indicated 78 or so MPH.. This should with speedo error be just about bang on a real world 70 MPH. So the journey took in a varied range of driving as the 701 is a fast and fabulous road to travel on so NO driving like miss daisy ! It is an indisputable fact that I got at least 30 miles more from the tank if I filled with quality fuel Shell Vpower diesel being the fuel I used 95% of the time.... The other major as far as I am concerned gain was fitting the Lindop chip.. This chip was not fitted to make the car faster the T180 is quick enough anyway and to be frank its not that sort of car.. Well for me its not.. The chip was just purely for economy and the HUGE gains in drive-ability that come after fitting said chip.. I met up with Big Kev at a services in Scotland and went over in my Jag XF which is a pretty pokey motor and despite this Kevs car felt in a different league to my car !! It just pulled from way down lower in the range without the need to drop a gear. So overtaking is a smoother less effortless afair.. This means less strain on the car the driver and most importantly the fuel tank.. The car just feels so much better.. More power less effort just a better car and likely what Toyota would have delivered if it were not for all the !Removed! stupid emissions tests the car has to endure to get on our roads .... My car always did an average MPG of 40 on that journey.. 43 TO 43 on the motorway and a 38 ish when belting down the A701.. So for me while its not the epitome of economy it turns in IMHO very good figures taking in that it is quite a big heavy car and most of the time was heavily loaded ... Plus lets remember its is after all a 4WD vehicle with good capability ! My Wife who is disabled now has a wee Ford Fiesta Titanium 1.4 petrol automatic.. Its fuel figures are laughable ! It cant get near the T180s figures !! Driving style is or must be a huge factor here as Im plain confused why some get good and some get semmingly bad MPG..........

  4. I'm a relatively new owner of a T180 so I can't vouch for the reliability in the same way as the other contributors, however these were the main reasons I made the purchase: - spacious and practical (5door) - got a good spec model with sat nav, bluetooth, sunroof, keyless entry etc - good on tax and insurance - better mpg than my previous car - cheaper servicing costs than VW/Audi/BMW - cheaper outright cost than equivalent VW/Audi/BMW with similar spec - decent BHP and especially torque - wanted a Japanese motor Of course, the Auris is the antithesis of flashy, and has none of the brand/image factor of Audi A3, VW Golf or BMW 1-series equivalent diesels. But I like owning something a bit different, and I think many people are quite surprised by the performance. I've always had good treatment by Toyota and so I wanted to continue with a Japanese motor. I did read some of the comments on this forum before purchasing, particularly regarding MPG. When I bought mine I was achieving approx 30-33mpg around town and 33mpg on motorway runs, so pretty crap really. However, having recently fitted a Lindop tuning box from PartsKing, the MPG has increased to 43-45mpg around town and 48-49 on motorway runs (plus a little additional power), so i'm very pleased with this. I think to be getting this kind of MPG from a car with approx 195bhp and >450Nm torque (obviously with box fitted) is great. I've only driven petrols previously, so couldn't imagine getting this sort of MPG from a car with this much power. Time will tell whether any of the major problems listed by others will arise, but so far so good (touch wood). Given the Auris with the tuning box was cheaper than an equivalent basic-spec 120d , I'm not regretting the purchase. Oh and if anyone is interested, the insurance increase on a box being fitted was <£50.

  6. Takes your new car from 178bhp to an even more fun 218bhp, and used properly can yield 4 to 6 mpg extra, with nice cruising and sixth gear flexibility and much less requirement for changing down through gears.....that's all.......
