  1. It's different because when they are blocked they are actually stuck open. This will effectively stick it shut. Its a personal choice.

  5. Sometimes it helps, in a car that has been mainly used for pootling around urban areas, to go for a "blast" on a motorway (not exceeding speed limits or taking risks of course) to clean out the cobwebs in the cylinders and deposits on the plugs. Keep it in fourth gear for a while instead of changing up to fifth. Used to make a difference in the old days. John

  7. I'm getting the same sort of misfire when driving at around 35mph. I had the EGR Valve replaced about 18 months ago and I have now covered 43,000 miles. The thing is it only happens every now and again, maybe a couple of times a month.

  8. The sparks were inspected but not replaced at the last service. The car has now done 14150 miles. (59 plate). Worth noting is the fact that the previous owner (Elderly man) only used the car from new for short trips for 3 years and covered 7102 miles in that period I have added 7000 in 8 months since I bought the car. Mr T carried out the 20000 mile service last October with the mileage at 9265, this due to the age of the car, I would have preferred that sparks be replaced at that time but I notice on the service schedule that they reckon they should only be replaced every 60000 miles. How difficult/easy are they to replace yourself? And which ones would you recommend? I am not the worlds best mechanic! Jack

  9. Ok 93k miles and head gasket failure, that I can deal with, I had 3/4 block fitted but for it to fail again with 35k miles on new engine is what I'm not happy with, it's something that was put into the car to do a job and didn't , I wouldn't mind if I could get the head skimmed but from what I heard it doesn't work and is not advised, the dealer did the job of fitting new engine that's their job, but to me it looks like a faulty one was put in, I know another taxi driver that is on his 2nd engine which also failed at 40k miles so he got it skimmed and cylinder head done with a lot of other bits and bobs, and it went again, he ended up putting steal seal in and it worked he's driving a month now with no overheating issues, he just got a pain in his face spending money on the car, maybe that's my only option and try the stuff out, anything is worth a try at this stage.

  11. Chain! What you really need to know is, if the engine a good one that does not burn oil or had been fixed. Just because the engine has a chain cam drive, does not make it better if the previous owners have not given it regular oil changes. The chain could stretch and wear over time if neglected. Konrad

  14. Shame we have no stickies on this forum? Sooty as a start have a quick read through this: http://prius3.wordpress.com/2011/02/27/tips-tricks-for-the-normal-driver-to-achieve-satisfying-fuel-efficiency-on-the-prius-gen-3/ Simple rules with Prius, speed up and slow down gradually On the way up it will help you use more battery power and less petrol. On the way down it allows the car to charge the battery so you can use it latter. Get the hang of that and then you will hit 60+ MPG on a regular basis.
