  1. Maybe she has been reading about what you and others have been threatening to do on this OPEN PUBLIC FORUM :( I really cannot believe the lengths that some of the "Keyboard Warriors" on here have threatened and encouraged you to go to! Hope that things work out to a mutually satisfactory conclusion for both parties :)

  2. Phew, I was having bad dreams about a perfectly nice Rav being hurt. It's always the "children" that suffer in these break ups! Dave

  3. Devon Aygo has recently supplied the following information on oil requirements: "The issues over which oils are used is caused by a European law called "Block exemption" the same law that states that manufacturers can't insist on main dealer servicing, also stops Toyota from insisting what oils are used by anyone wishing to service a car including their own dealer network. All Toyota are allowed to do is list a set of specifications that the oil used must meet they can also list a "preferred" oil. For example I have listed below the requirements Toyota have for the mkiii Prius, a car that has caused a lot of posts over the oils that have been used during servicing. This info is taken from Toyota's Service data sheet for European Prius mkiii only! Preferred option: 0w20 Other listed options: 5w20 5w30 10w30 15w40 20w50 These grades above are listed by Toyota as they meet the following required specifications: API grade SL or SM multigrade engine oil API grade SL “Energy-Conserving”. SM “Energy-Conserving” or ILSAC* multigrade engine oil. Toyota can only require the oils used meet the minimum specifications above. So long a the oil used meets the above the oil grade is not enforceable. At present Toyota have "asked" but cannot enforce the dealer network to use the following, Mk3 Prius, Prius plug-in, Prius +, Mk1 Auris HSD, Mk2 Auris HSD & Yaris HSD 0w20 Mk1 & Mk2 Prius 5w30 Optimal drive petrol models 0w20 or 5w30 Other petrol engines 5w30 Diesel engines incl Optimal drive 5w30 Diesel engines with DPF including optimal drive 0w30 or 5w30 meeting C2 low ash specifications"

  9. The 1.4D4D in the Auris is a good engine; It will do the job and get better mpg, but it will feel really underpowered coming from the 2.0D4D (I imagine the experience is similar to me going from my 1.4D4D Yaris to this 1.0 petrol 107!! ). Whenever I get to hoon about in my brother's 2.0D4D Corolla I get slightly Clarkson (POWAAAAAH! ) because it has such ridiculous torque. :D Y'know what, stuff changing cars; keep the 2.0! You'll save money and have more fun! :D

  10. Thanks for that Konrad. I did buy a `99 Avensis GS 1.8 Auto and I`m very pleased with it. I certainly can`t complain about the performance of the 1762cc 7A-FE engine, and the finding and buying of a 1.6 similar car would be purely out of interest and evaluation. But; as you rightly say, engine power output per size and autobox technology has moved on. Thanks again, Roald (as in Dahl?)

  11. No. The 1.4 has 66% of the power of the 2.0 (90bhp as opposed to 126bhp) and less torque ('less pull' - 151lbft as opposed to 200lbft).

  12. GD.....after you get used to Sport setting, and you forget on the odd time to select it when you start up, may I be forgiven for saying......the Rav is almost boring to drive in what Anchs has named ECO Mode. I have even gone as far as asking an electronics (sorta) knowledgable person hereon to investigate how to make car default to Sports Mode on start up......good techno speak, eh....default....? 14. Positively do not do it on a 150 automatic. I can tell you that it completely baffles the ECU and does some strange things to the engine and the gearbox. Strange but true.Instead try this. Consider your car to permanently in ECO mode and if you press the Sport button, see what happens. It unleashes a different beast altogether and if anything smooths out the gear changes. Worth bearing in mind that he chip kit inferred above was originally on my SR180, and Lindop McKingo was informed by manufacturer that "the settings for the 180 and new 150 are so similar as to make no difference, so could be interchanged".......PANTS.......the engine rattle was extremely disconcertful, chip kit removed, unit checked as fully operational, and now owned by a fellow member who loves it in his T180. Maybe a correct 150 unit in the OP's new Invincible will work OK........if not, it can be returned with a tube of Germoloids ointment to That Kingo. As far as virtually permanent selection of SPORT mode, noo that is a find........if there is any mpg penalty, I have not detected it, but it makes it a far more enjoyable drive. Worth experimenting with prior to a Chip Kit "trial"........ Big Kev

  15. I cured my rattle by wrapping the charger cable for my phone in a cloth before putting it in the glovebox.

  18. An update... I got the car back, with a replacement engine and a set of new injectors fitted. What can I say, wow, it's so fast now, the car actually moves now! Before the engine swap, I can now say that it used to drive as if I was driving with the handbrake on! The car pulls really well now. One thing I've noticed though was that the heating blows out cold air, even when the engine's warmed up, it never blows out any hot air. So I rang the dealer and have taken it back to them to look into. They told me that's it's not an air-lock and they also noticed that I've lost some coolant - 0.75 litres, I haven't spotted any leaks on the ground under the car though, so not sure where the coolant's going. The heating worked absolutely fine and I wasn't losing any coolant before the engine swap though, so not sure what's caused these problems, hopefully nothing too major! I thought I remember reading about someone who said that if their heater blows out cold air, then there's a problem with the engine, will have a search through this thread....

  19. No need to keep the two, I would just delete the AAC format which is selected then still anyway so easy to keep a clean system...
