  4. Cards on the table.. Went into the dealers with the intention of buying a manual invincible at 24480 as advertised. First choice is an auto but they did not appear to have one in stock and the offer is just on the manual cars.. Consideration of MPG also at the back of my mind.. To cut to the chaff I asked for 7500 for my car and offered to pay the cost to change there and then by bank transfer. Simple easy no nonsense transaction... The chap who I was dealing with was a mature Scotsman and we hit it off straight away.. You either gel with the people or you don't.. He of course went off to see the wee man in the cave. Said man came out and dispite my assurance that I do not and will not take finance tried his best to sell me finance.. Fair play that's his job.. I likely would not get finance anyway as I/We at our house have no credit rating.. Haven't had a mortgage for 15 years. No loans or finance agreements whatsoever and we don't even have a credit card.. The guys were amazed at the condition of my old car.. They could not fault it. But still the PX offer was 6K........Now perhaps I want it at both ends but I simply refuse to sell a car that they will retail for over 9500 (Their words) for six grand.. So putting the T180 on PH is a punt... Its worth a try eh...

  5. Am now a more "at ease" driver as have just picked up a space saver spare wheel for my Rav Quoted 4 to 6 week wait turned out to be 2 days ! Cost £145 for wheel with tyre, didn't require other bits (jack, brace or nuts) Wasn't going to pay the quoted £55 + VAT for a jack in a million years

  9. You will always get some oil in the intake to the turbo because the engine breather from the cam cover is sucked into the intake. Check that the hose is on correctly tho'. Keith

  11. If you are used to a diesel it's extremely painful at first as the engine has almost no torque at low RPM. I stalled the courtesy car 107 loads of times before I adapted The biggest problem I had was that it's harder to feel the clutch bite in the 107 and the engine will stall much more suddenly than my D4D does. The other problem is that my D4D has made me very lazy - I can do low-speed manoeuvres and such purely on the tick-over in the D4D but found this impossible in the 107 - You HAD to use the accelerator. It brought back lots of hateful memories of the crappy BSM Corsa I learned to drive in But that car did teach me excellent clutch control (If you didn't learn it, the $£#@*&%$ thing would just stall ALL THE TIME ) You get used to it tho' and it shouldn't take long to adapt, esp. for a new driver. I'd say it is a very good car for a new driver as it is very agile, and the engine is powerful enough to keep them out of trouble but not powerful enough to get them into trouble :) They just need to get a feel for it, do a few starts and manoeuvres etc. If they find it too difficult, may be worth taking some more lessons in a weaker engined car because clearly they aren't ready for the road. Or find them a Mk1 Yaris D4D Edit: Added back all the linefeeds; The forum really seems to have a taste for them P.S.> Bit of extra advice; If unsure, the old standby of running the engine to 2000rpm and then gently engaging the clutch is a good learner trick until they get a feel for the engine and can go back to the more normal seesaw way of doing things. Only do it if the Aygo has the 190mm clutch tho' or it won't last long! Also, may be tricky if there is no RPM counter... ...

  12. I must say for a first car they are being spoilt, I learnt to drive in a Triumph Dolomite 1300 which was a nightmare as it jumped out of gear when it felt like it. All cars take a bit of time, take them to a car park after work and let them practice, it seems good enough for our local BSM to use.
