  2. Hiya Guys, All very benevolent talking about what other car manufacturers are doing or not doing as the case may be but what is the root cause of all these recalls? It can only be cost cutting at our expense. All very well if you buy your car two thirds of the price that we pay for our cars, Toyota was one of the most reliable cars in years gone by I should know I have been driving them for 35 years. Yes I agree they are more technical now but a firm like Toyota should set the standards for others to follow. Lets look at Lexus, Customer Service and quality renowned year after year so why cant Toyota achieve the same. It comes to something when a member of public tells the Dealer when a recall is due on their vehicle. It would be fantastic if Toyota came on this website and answered some of the questions we all have. Sadly I don't think that will happen. I think this is mainly a Toyota GB problem because if you look at this website even some of the staff at Toyota UK have trouble finding answers to questions. http://blog.toyota.co.uk/new-toyota-auris-your-questions-answered Ok that is my view over to you guys now I am interested in peoples other opinions. Perhaps I am the unlucky one who does not have a pick of Dealerships as where I live they are all owned by Lancasters. In my opinion too big to care. Stompe The honest answer is everyone views Toyota's attitude towards recalls differently, working at a dealer level I can say that the vast majority of people appreciate Toyota's approach to recalling cars, there are however people that see it as a detrimental thing, today I fielded a call call from someone ( not actually recalled ) demanding Toyota offer him compensation because his car has been devalued by the recalls?? I work within a company that runs multiple other franchises and can honestly say that Toyota are equally as good as some and far better than most in terms of reliability, my job as a warranty administrator is far less stressful than some of my colleagues because Toyota do acknowledge faults and Recall when required of offer warranty extensions where not. There is however one franchise that is better and that is Lexus and as I cover both I can tell you it is all down to numbers, the CT200h as an example suffers near identical issues as the MK3 Prius the difference comes from the sheer difference in volume and profit per unit. Lexus sell far fewer cars so the overall reapair rates are far lower meaning Lexus staff can spend more time and effort on each client and Lexus makes more profit per unit than Toyota so can throw more money back in to the niceties that give the perception of a better product. and perception is all it is, remember Lexus only offer a 3 year warranty on near identical products, why? because it is perceived that there is no need for a 5 year warranty.

  3. Was going along the M25 yesterday and hit a pothole at about 50mph. The steering took a bit of a bash and kind of went to jelly for about 3-4 seconds then stiffened up again. Felt very weird. Guess its a feature. Only put my experience on here in case others witness it David

  4. I've done internal lights also was gonna do the number plate lights haven't done the tail lights I wouldn't do the brakes as I think they are plenty bright and the red all matches wouldn't wanna risk it to have another shade but it's also an obvious difference in led lights you see a lot of cars with led to replace halogen and it's v bright Also I do a lot of motorway miles and cars with bright led light tail lights can be quite dazzling when u have done many miles in the dark and touches his brakes it's like someone flashing high beams at you ... 5. i never cleared the codes incase I wanted to take it to the dealer and get repaired. As a "58" plate car it would have been registered between Sept 2008 and Mar 2009 unless the mileage is above 111946miles it is still less than 7 years old so within the warranty extension, also yes the dealer warranty could be used. With your symptoms it appears you may have an EGR related issue as this is covered by the warranty extension get your car back to the dealers and refer the, the Toyota Bulletin EG-0041T-0412 this includes a whole stack of diagnostics including: MAF and MAP operation Injector operation 5th injector operation DPNR operation and EGR operation If any of these are at issue then they are replaced and the latest intake manifold, EGR valve and later EGR cooler kit will be fitted. DO NOT clear the codes stored as these are required by your dealer to support there claim to Toyota under the warranty extension. Blocking the EGR on a 180 engine can trigger a EGR flow fault code also recently I have had a customers claim for a faulty DPNR refused because an independent engineer appointed by Toyota proved that the driver had blocked his EGR after inspecting the EGR system and looking at stored diagnostic info, because the EGR was blocked he concluded that the DPNR had been put under additional stress due to the increased exhaust emissions bypassing the EGR and because the car had been unofficially modified away from manufacturers standard voiding the warranty policy.

  7. Thanks Peter. Like usual, there is no info about our torque converter, its clutch, the CVT reverse mechanism... People seems to be interested by the visible part of the iceberg (the belt) and they ignore the rest of the black box. What a pity... For example, some people complain about the poor mileage of their IQ. May be their hydraulic torque converter is not correctly by-passed when they drive? Did Toyota developed its own CVT system, or did they buy it from a transmission specialist, like most automatic gearboxes? I wonder if other manufacturers could use the same mechanism, with a better documentation? Many questions without answer !

  9. I have no problems about Toyota recalls. I am pleased they found and sort out problems with their cars. Aircraft manufacturers only find out defects once their aircraft enters service. Car manufacturers are no different. Toyota sort out their car defects. Generally speaking other manufacturers do not. I tend to agree that the Japanese production cars have a much stringent quality control. As an example of this the Prius GEN2 was a very reliable car and reported to be over engineered. I know a chap who worked at Vauxhall he said that cars not quite up to standard went "out of the door". It cost far too much to send the cars down the line again. He said it was left up to dealers to sort issues out. Toyota dealers are very good at sorting any problems. eg. I had three lots of headlights and fog lights changed on an Avensis I owned to stop internal glass misting. I could mention lots of other issues that got sorted without hassle. I agree with the statement that most Toyota owners have no problems with Toyota recalls.

  10. Hi Dave. No progress I am sorry to say, I have not been able to find a way to add POI's to the Touch & Go as you can to the TomTom so I still have the TomTom which I still use when needed. I use the T&Go for normal route planning. I think car manufactures are short sighted when trying to charge a small fortune for updated mapping, you can buy an excellent satnav with lifetime map updates for less than one 'car type' map update. Many map suppliers also supply the same maps for the car manufactures and although it may need modifying to suit the car's satnav the high price is enough to put many off buying it. If it was a more reasonable price more would buy it and in this case - Toyota - would have happier customers and sell many more new maps! These days its all about 'functionality' the more of it - the more we buy it. If 578 (as of 10/04/14) people have read this thread that's 500 Toyota owners who probably want the same as I do. Wake up Toyota Alan.

  11. Thanks for your answer. However, like all other documents, this video only shows the belt arrangement, but nothing about its hydraulic control (they just mention a hydraulic piston), the clutch and hydraulic converter...

  15. With reference EGR issues Toyota have recently added the EGR cooler assembly on the back of the block as a part that can cause P0400 and/or hesitation, surging and lack of power, the official fix is a kit of around 20 parts removing the EGR cooler and replacing it with a kit from a 2009> engine. This is in addition to the previously known modified EGR, Intake manifold and ECU reprogramme and is covered with the 7 year/111946mile extension already in place which is a good thing as the job is a biggie ranging from 5-10 hours to complete depending on model and previous modification level

  16. Yeah it possibly is new. I'd check to see if it's got the latest ecu software on it. Since you cleared the codes, have the lights come back on?
