  2. You've got the battery bit sussed, but I'd definitely advise having a good look under the bonnet for anything that's been frayed or chewed on by nesting birds or rodents. You may laugh but it does happen ! You only have to read Honest John's column in the motoring press to know this ..... After such a long period of non-action, all the engine oil will be sitting in the sump & no good to the top of it whatsoever. So a good tip is to take off the oil filler cap & pour about quarter of a litre of fresh oil in to lube the top end. This will reduce the amount of wear to the internals on start-up. Might not bother you - but it will bother who you sell it to ! I would also recommend getting some fresh fuel in the tank as soon as possible. Hope this helps .....

  3. Aviatoras mentioned an ABS unit not an ABS sensor or bearing it would appear the ABS brake actuator may be their issue but with out confirmation we do not know, the car would fail a UK MOT now as the ABS light is on which is an immediate failure, not sure where Aviatoras is but it is likely that this is why their car is off he road.

  4. Electrical load? Try the same with the heater or the rear demister.

  5. Konrad, you can clear ABS codes by depressing the brake pedal 8 times in 3 seconds with the ignition switch turned on.

  7. I agree. Always, always, always give your Toyota dealer the chance to price match or at least see what they can do. Same with servicing. People grumble about high main dealer prices, but many are prepared to price match your local garage within reason. You don't ask you don't get. The benefit of going through a main dealer for all your servicing is that you get the software updates (the Prius is a computer with a car attached) and they keep an eye on warranty work and also, if you're slightly over the warranty they're much more flexible to assisting you if anything ever goes wrong. My inverter was replaced 10,000 miles outside warranty as I had a full dealer stamped service book and the Mrs also has a Toyota from new. Loyalty in big companies is rare, but it's still there with some.

  8. Probably be in the same place. Could try sending Parts King a personal message for a replacement (quote your model details and what you want) - but you will need to check they can deliver when you want it. Otherwise try your local Toyota dealer.

  9. Thanks very much for all your replies - I actually found the key in a spare pair of jeans! I'd still like to get a spare in case it happens again. Thanks again.

  11. I changed my 12v battery recently. There were no signs of problems but I did it as a precaution (car 12/07) as I was leaving the car at the airport over the Easter holiday. No way did I want to get stuck in Luton on my return. At over six years old I don't think it owed me much and it's now enjoying retirement sitting in my garage. Wish I could think of a use for it. Anyway I investigated doing it myself but in the end, for not much extra money, I just let Toyota do it. And Pete's right - it was £95 total. Hope you get yours sorted. PS Not closing the boot properly can also cause the courtesy light to drain the battery - I turned mine off altogether to be on the safe side.

  13. I tend to ignore these (well not tend to, I do) as if you followed them you would be changing gear twice as often as you would just driving normally. I wonder if that is why some people complain at having to change gear too often, because they follow the lights?

  14. I love our IQ and I'd like to agree with you, but I also seriously doubt it'll be a classic. A bit of a curio at a car show in 30 years time, but no classic I fear.
