  1. Hi Folks I've had this problem of a vibration in 5th gear at around 60mph since I got the car 2 years ago its a 53 plate D4D 40,000 miles. I have trolled the internet and this site for answers but as yet I didnt find the solution to the problem, until now, You name I had tried it. I decided to look more at the simple answer instead of stripping the gearbox or fitting a new clutch as I had been advised. I have uploaded the pictures of the simple fix. I took the gear nob off and stripped out the centre consul 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th no problem why because on the outer cable on the right hand side, the inner cable lies at a slight angle in 1st, 2nd ,3rd and 4th, but when its in 5th the cables run parallel thus causing a very small gap between the two, hence a vibration. simple... As shown in the pictures I have cut a small rubber and cut a groove the same diameter as the cable , cost 10p out the stationers released the clip for the cable and place the rubber under the cable. Replace the cable and lubricate. refit centre console Job done... You may find your gear selector is now a little bit tighter, but the benifits are no more annoying vibration and £600 lighter in the pocket. That would have been the cost for toyota to replace the 2 cable and the gear change as they qouted me. I now like my rav again Any question drop me an email yours aye Gavin Thanx to R.G ps I hope this has been of use to many

  3. I have also had mine for coming up to 2 months. Brakes I quickly got used to once you master the re-gen braking bit of the brake pedal travel. I now leave a far longer gap in front and slow for junctions sooner than I used to. I'm guessing I am hardly using my pads as when the occasion arises when I do need the pads to apply, they are quite noisy now as there is surface rust on the discs from lack of use and I have done over 3000 miles already. I'm getting the tinny boot lid (also traced to noisy no. plate fixings) so I have packed out the corners of the no. plate with a bit of blutack for now which has silenced it. Not noticed the blindspot either. I'm now getting around 65mpg and today managed 423 miles to a tankful of petrol. (Very much looking forward to the warmer weather to see how much more I can improve on my current figures) I am using an app called 'Dash Command' on my iPhone with an OBD dongle plugged in to the diagnostic port. I am monitoring engine coolant temp that way along with cat temps and motor current. Fascinating to see when and how much the motor re-gens. Overall, a wonderful car to drive. Extremely quiet at low speeds and smooth and refined to drive. Glad you're both enjoying yours. I'm thrilled to bits with mine.

  4. Could be a valid reason - of the 17 new cars (different makes and models) we've had, some have had a similar noise when the engine has been turned off and others haven't.

  5. It should work but the ECU may have slightly different parameters. Check the following link -http://www.japan-parts.eu/ You can compare part numbers and other differences between the two engines. The exhaust system may have a different down pipe, due to the engine height, but again part numbers will tell you. Good luck.

  7. Well, I found the solution, I have done two different things, the first one was remove from the car the throttle body for a "professional" clean, I can see my face on it now. Only with an specific spray and without touching the interior. When I test it again, the proble was still there, but I feel it more responsive. So I decided to look for an intake manifold leak, only with a spray with water, and voila!, I have a little leak. My new gasket is coming and I will work on it this weekend. I will report, cause as I have read is a tipical issue. Regards

  9. Well everyone I have just ordered my new model. I decided to get the Aygo Expression in White and chose to have the optional satnav. Expected delivery will be on February 20th. My daughter is collecting the new Aygo Excite in that nice orange colour this Friday so will be taking a look at that on Saturday when we go to see her. I was pleased with the deal that my local Toyota dealer gave me. Looking forward to driving it.........

  11. Coolant temp sensor is located on the radiator at the bottom. If its slow to start or hard to start.. You need to do the following things. 1) check fuel filter 2) manually pump the top of the fuel filter to check resisistance, 3) unplug air mass sensor and try to start. Possible parts that could be faulty (but in no particular order) Starter Motor Fuel pump coolant sensor injectors control valves. manifold / throttle body main realy/pump relay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/toyota-avensis-d4d-common-rail-injector-/270838144172?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0f361cac
