  2. I've seen threads here and elsewhere before about problems with the HUD after windscreen replacement - some have said it's blurred after the change, like double vision, Including this one: http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/156179-hud-ghosting/?p=1315834 I'd already decided if I ever need a new screen I'd go to my dealer - I think it would could £300-£400 and I'd only get a small amount back from the insurer due to not using their preferred supplier, but I can really do without this sort of pain in the proverbials. Even if they sub contract, they will be responsible for ensuring the work is up to scratch (and I'd make sure they know to monitor the HUD operation). Someone else said the same in the thread linked above.

  3. Hi I have had the same problem, but found mine would play the cheap pound shop DVDS ,which are all region. For some reason they work. Mine has since stopped working,I think it must be the remote control but I do not want to buy one from Toyota in case it is the player. If there is a member that has got a reasonably priced one I would be interested.

  7. changed my rad about a month ago at 93k miles the header tanks crimps were showing pink crust so thought id change it before I got stuck I also had to clean up the hose outlets from the engine and the radiator hoses as these were building due to the not so efficient spring clips. had a time bleeding system to the heater had to drive round the block using all g force angles top up repeat to get the coolant upto the heater matrix

  8. if you've fixed the wire t,hen disconnect battery negative for 10 mins then refit, this should clear the light. is it the 1cd-ftv engine you have? same as me I blanked my egr 2 years ago and never had any problems only thing is light comes on for a po400 fault if I remember right, from what ive read there is no way round this? as the maf is expecting less air pulled through it when egr is meant to let the recirculated air through as well. it means egr flow fault and this is calculated over a period of time before light is triggered hence I get 50 miles before the light comes on I clear light before it goes for mot as it takes 50 miles to re appear engine runs sweet clean valves etc clean oil clean exhaust great fast pass smoke test on mot ( 0.48). as for rattle/rumble good shout for the intake hose to airbox connection. trattles can be misleading on these cars I bought a strut top mount after checking steering and finding no wear items, to find the plastic undershield was knocking on the chassis leg also check for loose exhaust shielding

  10. Engine code reader is a good idea, engine light was a loose maf sensor wire so that should knock itself off, packed the tube to the air box as the foam surronding it was loose but the knocking noise is still there and persistant around 2k rpm leading me to think its something more sinister.

  12. As Paul has said, its not fit for purpose, stand your ground. If a switched on buyer notices this its going to potentially affect the resale value of your car also!!

  13. Think it will depend whether it is a manufacturing defect that has caused the rust (which is what the anti corrosion warranty covers) or something else (eg blocked drainage holes in the door). The only way to determine whether Toyota will treat your car's rust as a manufacturing defect is to take it to a Toyota dealer and seek an opinion.

  14. It doesn't matter what they say in their contract, if it is not "fit for purpose" they have to address the issue.

  15. Just a follow up on HUD issue. The supplier has said that the screen has a slightly different 'profile' to the original but asserts that all should be readable ( it is just smaller) They have enough clauses in their contract to allow me not to get it changed and even if I did it may no difference. Oh well! Thanks for your help .. And something to watch for ... Sent from my iPhone using Toyota OC

  17. If you haven't tried it I would still try holding a key against the start button as you press it - switching off the setting may have stopped the button working when they key is elsewhere in the car.

  18. You need an old key (you can supply it from anywhere, as long as it's a Valeo, same as yours), and new blank. Cut the blank after your key at a local locksmith. Fit the electronics inside. Program the key (the immobiliser and the remote control for the doors). There are how to's on the forum. Use search function.

  19. That model was prone to coolant loss from the water pump. As the pulley wheel bearing wears coolant leaks from a check hole which is only visible from underneath. It's right next to and in line with the spindle shaft. It also sounds like the stat is permanently open given the symptoms you've described.

  21. "Either I'm "internetly challenged" or their site does not carry user manuals, but only small service aids." everything that you need to know to service a European Toyota is available through that site albeit a lot of it is chargeable (& downloadable). That is why I suggested that the regular car manuals may be on there as well but I have never had the need & I'm not about to pay to find out for somebody else :P Have you tried asking a dealer to order one (OK, you will probably have to pay £20 or so)? Or have you looked on ebay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Car-Manuals-Literature-/36085/i.html?_from=R40%7CR40&_nkw=toyota+avensis+manual
