  1. Can't believe that front and rear parking sensors are an extra on even the top of range models. This feature has become a "must have" particularly in larger cars and the "no win no fee" insurance market which encourages motorists to litigate for minor incidents. Please Toyota, make this a core feature of all estate models.

  4. That really ought not to be possible Chris, well at least not without knowing anyway because each individual file inside the archive has its own .md5 checksum file alongside it. This means that when you unpack the archive onto a USB stick, if there is any corruption, it should be flagged up straight away by the application during the unpacking process. I had this exact problem last week when I was trying to get a successful set of new maps and it actually took me three full download attempts before I got a full archive that unpacked without error! Kept failing randomly on different map segments. First it was Sweden then it was Ukraine of all places... Personally, I feel that it's Toyota's servers and their network connection that has issues. I have a fibre connection running at 30+Mbps 99% of the time for most download transactions but when I was downloading maps, I very rarely got much more than a 10 Mbps speed with constant interruptions to the stream. The first time I got an interruption free download was the first time I got an error free unpack of the maps onto my USB stick which actually then successfully updated my maps.

  5. hello all. finally i managed to change the oil filter on my 2008 2.0 4d4 avensis. i used one of these and worked a treat, so in case anyone will need it. its a cap 65mm/67mm 14f(flutes) and is something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-4990-Oil-Filter-Tool-Toyota-Yaris-65-67mm-x-14-Flutes-/320774780671?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aafaab6ff hope that helps. regards

  6. Certainly Russell - it was Dingles of Norwich - worth a drive over. If you book in with Darren for 0730, you can get a cracking all you can eat breakfast in the Premier Inn next door. By the time you've finished, it will be ready. If you want to try to persuade your dealer, I posted a link to the parts list when they did it on my T3 here: http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/167783-hybrid-auris-touring/?p=1385665

  7. Logic would dictate that the problem is that your plug isn't going far enough into the lighter socket to make contact. I don't know if there is anything odd about the Auris lighter socket because my Tom Tom plug which worked ok on my previous car jammed solid in the Auris lighter socket. It might be worth a punt to get an extension type lead from your socket and plug into that. I bought an aftermarket plug for my Tom Tom and it worked fine.

  8. Warren, Sorry can't do an RPM check at the moment as thanks to a careless supermarket parker mine is in for some minor body repairs. The EPB failure on the Avensis has been well documented on here and it would seem most failures have occurred well within the 5 year warranty period. Mine didn't fail as such but I thought it was noisy so mentioned it at service time. Toyota changed it without quibble. However only Toyota will know how many they have had to replace and like most forums only those with the problem will post on here. If you check forums for other manufacturers you will probably find some reported failures there too. I must say it is my only gripe with the car, not so much that it has an EPB (though I would prefer that it didn't) but where the operating switch is fitted. It is out of comfortable reach for me and hidden by the steering wheel, not very ergonomic. I am currently using a 2012 Passat with DSG box whilst mine is in for repair and the only thing about it that is better than the Avensis is the location of the EPB switch, its down on the centre console alongside the gearstick which is much better. When I last researched warranties, other than Toyota, only Kia and Hyundai were offering more than a three year one. Some, such as Ford, only give a one year manufacturers warranty with any extra covered by the dealers warranty if offered. If you look at the forums for the so called prestige models, German ones in particular, you will see there are many complaints about getting repairs done under warranty. However to be fair the same applies to them as to the EPB failures on here, only those with complaints will be posting so it has to be taken into perspective. As ever only research will throw up any likely problems with a planned purchase and even then there is no guarantee a totally different problem won't occur. If you haven't already done so I would highly recommend you take a couple of long test drives of anything on your shortlist before deciding to buy.
