  1. Just for fun really. Thought I'd just post some pictures of the stable that my iQ lives in. I gave it a makeover last summer. It started out as a concrete sectional garage, years ago I insulated and clad the outside with weatherboard. That was looking very tired and drab. Off came the rotten cladding, was sorry to disturb the field mice :( On went the new insulation and breathable waterproof membrane. Then for the new cladding I decided to use machined half-round 4 inch fence rails. In went a false window with mirror tint just to break it up, it also has a light behind it for the dark summer nights. iQ now sleeps peacefully at night :)

  2. You may be right - after my first brush with Toyota, I wouldn't have ever touched them again, except I found the Hybrid irresistible. My first one was actually registered in October 2000 (when it was launched in the UK), the original was launched in Japan in 1997. At the time the original Prius was born it seemed to me and many other early adopters to be a quantum leap in car technology. When mine was written off in a crash after just 6 months, I so loved the way it drove I got on the phone to my dealer and ordered another whilst still sitting in the wreckage waiting for recovery - even if it only had average economy, I loved the driving experience - still do! The then chairman of Toyota put together a team who were told they could have virtually unlimited resources except time - they HAD to design a car with half the CO2 and double the mpg of the Corolla of the time. Despite several protests that it was impossible, after being sent back to the 'lab' they achieved it. Whilst the Gen 2 and 3 Prius had obvious improvements (as well as a few backward steps), I was always a bit disappointed with the slow rate of improvement compared to that original giant leap. When the Gen 2 came out in 2004 many of us at the time were convinced we'd be able to buy a Yaris sized Hybrid within 10 years that easily did 100+ mpg without extreme driving techniques. I can't help feeling if the project teams for the Gen 2/3/4 had been locked away for 2 years with a brief they HAD to do better, it would have happened.

  3. Just shift to "N" and turn on A/C. WARNING: doing this you can make the SOC going too much down and make the car to turn off and require an HV battery recharger. Go back to "P" when just a bar is left on the SOC display.

  4. In short no, it'll only affect a warranty claim if it can be proven to have been the direct cause of the claim occurring.

  7. Well Pat, it depends when in the World you are. If you're in the UK and you get your car serviced at Toyota then they extend (subject to certain terms and restrictions etc) the battery warranty upto 10 years inclusive and unlimited miles. If you don't use Toyota for servicing then it costs £39 a year/10k miles. See this for further details; https://www.toyota.co.uk/service-and-maintenance/hybrid-health-check?gclid=CKGs4P73vMYCFQKg2wodCS8GjQ&gclsrc=aw.ds If you have a gen3 Prius then the Toyota website suggests the replacement battery is about £800, though if you have the HHC in force, who cares how much it costs. Be aware the HHC only covers the HV battery and not the 12v battery or the expensive hybrid transaxle.

  8. Nissan 'want' to make an EV and make a profit (potentially), Fiat cry foul and pretend it costs them £30k and they can't possibly make money. One company sells the most EVs in the World, the other can't make a car go up a hill.

  9. A little late to this, but just to add my two penneth, I have the 'Mini 0801'. Very discreet (so discreet, I leave it in all the time), excellent picture quality, 8Gb internal memory plus SD card slot. Had it since Jan '14, still going strong...though the bracket is starting to gain some play from when I used to take the whole camera out of the car to transfer clips, instead of just the SD card...like a fool.

  11. I bought one of these Chinese Units for my 09 Auris, very easy to fit, 5 minutes out 5 minutes in, connected all the wires ( inc backlight ) remote control for stereo refused to work, CAbus worked OK ish for a few weeks before the sat nav would redirect me thru a river ( I belive this was a hacked version of I-Go ), but still nothing too serious. After 8 or so weeks screen went, vertical and Horizontal line that would dance around the beat of the music, very pretty, except when your hopeless lost on route to somewhere near the back @ss of beyond. My main problem was with the Chinese Seller, very reculant to accept the return, so I got Paypal Involved, cost £48 to ship it back to China for a replacement, seller decided to refund. Lessons to be learned, 1) you get what you pay for2) Chinese Products ( MIne was Ropse), I'd give 5 out 103) Chinese Ali express Trade Tang and DHGATE, avoid you have little recurse if it goes T1T5 up4) If you choose to buy from HK, please be aware if a faulty occurs will cost you an arm and a leg to replace / return.5) Ebay or Amazon for your purchases, at least you are covered if your chinese headunit goes Pete Tong
