  1. Keep the keys well away from the car when your doing the brakes.

  2. If it helps, I've just repaired the rear brake calipers on my 2015 Hybrid Yaris, and in doing so I pushed back the pistons without any codes coming up. I simply did not turn on the ignition until I had fully completed the work and had a firm brake pedal again.

  3. Generally if one has carpet mats in one's car, the driver's mat tends to have the heaviest wear, and wears out faster than the other three mats. One can now purchase OE single driver's carpet mats for some vehicles, which will save having to buy completely new sets in the above scenario. Available from Parts King, your local Toyota dealer or the Official Toyota Store on Ebay See: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ToyotaOfficialStore?_fsub=&_nkw=&_nkw=single+car+mat&submit=SEARCH&LH_TitleDesc=1&clk_rvr_id=927410690024&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true

  5. I have a 'Nextbase' in mine for over two years without any problems and quite happy with it. It was £52 then & seems a popular make. Have a look in Halfords as they stock them. I did not buy from them tho' I have it semi hard wired without any wires showing at all and comes on with ignition.

  6. When i bought my Auris brand new in March 2009 it only came with two keys. i was surprised and asked them where the valet key was but they confirmed it was no longer supplied by Toyota. It did come with a little plastic tag with the key number on it which Toyota advised you to keep safely because if you ever lost the keys and you did not have this number it would be very expensive to get new ones. Don't know what all would have been involved, i always kept the tag safely and never lost the keys. When i picked up my present Auris i found they don't even give you a plastic tag. I queried this with the dealer and he said Toyota didn't supply them any longer, the info was all in the computer. They charged a flat rate of £150 for a new key.

  7. Interesting question. I was wondering if anyone knows of one that's compatible with an iPad? I've had dash cams in the past and all gave up the ghost within six months or so. I used to drive for a living so they were used all day every day, so I have to take that into account, but the reality is, most are the usual Chinese tat that breaks within months rather than years. It's the reason I like Japanese engineering. I have some vintage Japanese hi-fi separates and the quality is beyond anything you can buy today. So does anyone know of a good quality Japanese dash cam?

  9. For the UK gen3 T-Spirit Prius, the satnav is on the hard disk drive and cannot be updated by DVD.It has to be updated by MrT at great expense. AFAIK only the UK had this. The gen3 facelift rolled out touch and go across the range.

  11. As Konrad says, it can be very important to have a second key. I had an old VW Passat and got only one key with it. One day i unlocked it, put the key in the ignition from outside then closed the door while i cleaned the windows. The central locking system activated and left me outside with the (only) key inside! There was a fault with the system because it was only supposed to re-lock itself after 45 seconds if it was unlocked and no-one opened a door. Fortunately i had Greenflag breakdown cover so they came and got it open. Those little inflatable air bag things that they fed in behind the window frame and the body then inflate them by hand. The window frame bowed outwards and they got a tool in to release the lock. Needless to say I got a spare key made after that.

  12. Sport mode sharpens up the throttle pedal response, makes the car feel livelier

  13. Yeah, I felt that way too; The Mk3 is a totally un-Yarisy car; It has none of the design elements of features that made a Yaris a Yaris. If they'd given it a different name it wouldn't have been so bad, but when they called it a Yaris I had certain expectations, none of which are fulfilled by the Mk3. (Except maybe the horrible turning circle )

  15. It turned out to be a stone after all and it has made a hole right through the the belt so I'll be getting this changed ASAP. Surprising how much damage a tiny stone can do... Ordered the belt from Mr.T and will pick-up on Monday. Mr.T wanted over £80 for the labour and I have to wait 2 weeks for a while-you-wait slot. My local garage wants £26 labour and will do it right away. Guess which I chose. Thanks very much for your help Craig, I was on course to just book it in to Mr.T for a pump and belt change knowing that would probably fix whatever was causing the noise (didn't seem to come from alternator). I would never have thought to look for a stone if you hadn't mentioned it.

  16. Don't think what others have experienced with their old cars will but of much help as think your question really is deciding to take the plunge to get a new car. 17 year old cars are always going to have some problems sooner or later so why sit there worrying about it - just get something newer ..! :D So your real quesion is ... what are you going to get ?? a much later 2006 model Corolla or something like the newer Auris ? With 7 weeks before the new reg plate you have got plenty of time to decide and look around for a brand new car or , as many folk as buying new these days, there are lots of 2 - 4 year old trade ins to choose from, many with 12 months main dealer warranty.
