  1. Tried it. Sat in the car in P whilst Mrs Mick F was in a shop in town and I sat there with the system running and switched on the screen to see the power flow. Nothing showing either green or yellow as we had a fairly full battery. I was in P with the handbrake on. Weather nice and the internal temp set to 19degC. Engine not running. I moved the lever to N and nothing changed, so I turned the temp up to 30degC and nothing happened. I moved the lever to P and the engine started immediately to provide the heater for the 30degC, and the power flow was green to the battery. Moved it back to N, and the engine stopped and the power flow stopped too. Then I moved it back to P and it was as before when I was in P, so moved it back the N and everything stopped again. Still set at 30degC. Therefore, it proved to me, that in N, nothing charges and the heater is off and the engine isn't kicked into life .............. I suppose climate control is off too ............. and eventually the batteries will be depleted. Mick.

  2. Well the work is continuing with the restoration now that we can get more parts as lockdown has eased. Currently doing all the welding underneath with new sills etc and replacing all shocks, brake callipers, disks and pads. Also replacing all bushes for poli ones. Purchased replacement rear bumper and engine hood/spoiler, all I need now is a front bumper if anyone has one, preferably in white! Have also purchased some Momo aftermarket wheels that need restoration, but that should be underway in the next couple of weeks. Also have purchased new rally bucket seats, 6-point harnesses and Sparco steering wheel ready for installation. The car is going to be used for grassroots motorsport so will be a non-FIA regulated car. But a nice nod hopefully to the brands Motorsport history. That said see the picture below which is a mock-up of the look I am going for. Will take pics and upload them over the next few weeks of the internal and external works!

  3. The shift lever MUST be in "Park" and your foot firmly on the brake pedal BEFORE you hit the "Start" button. Try and get into the habit of ALWAYS putting the shift lever into the "Park" position (not just applying the handbrake) before switching off at the end of a journey but make sure you are at a complete standstill before doing so (it is a mechanical lock in the transmission). All you will have to do then when getting back in to drive the car is to apply the footbrake firmly before pushing the "Start" button and you'll be good to go. Note that the "Ready" light has to be lit before the system is fully up and running and you can move off. Also note that the ICE (internal combustion engine) will not necessarily fire up when you "Start" the car; especially on a warm day and if the traction battery is above at least 50% charge. By the way, NEVER use neutral on a Yaris Hybrid. It is NOT an "automatic" in the accepted sense, it is a CVT (constant velocity transmission).

  4. Oh now, hang on. Maintaining a database of the locations of potholes which after all don't move and using it to warn drivers is trivial. It's a minor extension of the basic feature set of any navigation system (potholes are just features of roads the same as junctions are). Being able to warn someone that they previously came into close contact with someone who has subsequently discovered they are infectious is a whole other undertaking. It requires telephones to do something they were never designed to do (measuring the distance between each other). It requires them to maintain a list of telephones that that they have come into 'close' contact with (something they'd never normally do). It requires some system to notify telephones of their historic close proximity to a suspect telephone. There are plenty of legitimate reasons for calling our government stupid (not just over track and trace and covering every government I've ever known which is all of them for the last forty years). But holding Waze up as an example is simply not valid. Waze isn't doing anything nearly as complicated as track and trace and is using your telephone exactly as it was always intended. Waze is basically a trivial application, that uses long established techniques. Track and trace apps are non-trivial and are on the cutting edge (probably beyond the cutting edge) of what current mobile telephones are capable of.

  6. Wrong, neutral only exists on a Hybrid to "disconnect" the engine as a means to push the car in an emergency/breakdown or carry out a MOT brake test. The 12v battery is only charged via the Hybrid traction battery and the Hybrid traction battery is only charged/ provides charge when the engine runs when in Park or drive

  7. Hi Hope you are all well and keeping safe (Guess this is the new hello, in these difficult times) Have just purchased this MK2 MR2 which is in need of some love and restoration. See some pictures below ... some interesting works to be carried out, as I hate the wheels (!) and the bumpers and spoiler has some strange damage marks, but hay ho, will all be sorted out at the body shop I am sure! Would be really interested in some ideas for wheels although am intending to do some grass roots motorsport so need to be more metal in them than air! Have attached some pics for you to see her current state Regards Gareth aka "Carlos" as used to compete in a 1977 Toyota Celica Rally Car (Now have an Ex Work Escort Cosworth rally car!)

  8. Just purchased a 2019 Corolla Excel. The quality of the picture on the reversing camera is nowhere near as good as that in my wife's 2012 Yaris Hybrid. Is that normal and could it be due to the number of pixels on the larger screen making it appear grainy?

  9. As far as I know, in Neutral, nothing happens. We'll be out this afternoon in the car, and I will check on the screen to see if there's a power flow. Somehow I doubt there is. As for switching on or off YOU MUST ALWAYS BE IN PARK. Mick.

  10. Key warning light ? Was it in the top right of the display with the word shift with an arrow ? It will not go into ready mode unless it is in park That is incorrect it will still charge in neutral unless you are sitting for an hour or more with everything on you will be hard-pressed to drain the traction battery, just make sure the hand brake is on, Park should be used when fully stopped or "parked"

  11. Well! it seemed that some of the problem was indeed the battery not holding the charge, a new one now seems to be ok. In the mean time however the exhaust blew a hole which has now been fixed only to be advised by the garage that the join to the back box has failed. And guess what, they cannot source a back box. There's always something...

  12. I can appreciate the Covid delay and the need to prioritise but what bugs me is why a new car supplied this month does not have the much advertised Android Auto capability. I feel that I was misled and the "C'est la vie" attitude is not comforting. I love the car, which has already received several complimentary comments/enquiries, but how can I in all honesty recommend it given my experience. Toyota's prioritisation seems to be on selling cars rather than delivering on promises and customer satisfaction!

  13. Yes. It's because you omitted to put it in park when you sat waiting in the car. You should do this whenever you stop and turn the system off in a Yaris Hybrid. What position were you leaving the shift lever in instead? Even if you stop for a couple of minutes (waiting for someone) with the system left on, put the shift lever in "Park" while you wait. NEVER neutral because this disables the automatic charging (ICE startup) that would occur if the traction battery gets depleted... You have to change your mindset when driving a hybrid... "I heard a comment that by putting my foot on the brake and switching off it enables the radio etc. to stay on but I cannot find any comment in the handbook." ...because it is not in there! Don't know who said that but it's wrong! If you want to have the radio on without starting the car, just keep your foot off the brake and push the start button once (equivalent of the "accessory" position) but if your stop is brief, better to leave the whole system on and in "Park". That way, the main battery will continue to keep topped up as needed.

  14. For those not aware, you can change the two smaller boxes on the Home Screen by going to the 'Customise home screen' on the Setup menu. You can have the Audio, ECO, Phone or Clock in the smaller boxes.

  15. What I don't understand is why there is any delay. This is code, which is so developed that it is installed on new cars at this moment. What is stopping this being currently available to everyone? I've given up waiting and booked my car to be picked up tomorrow for its first service. Maybe next year I'll get it done.

  16. i have built/rebuilt a few engines over the years tbh there is so much info about these days you have to wade through it all - information overload the usa spec engine is different uk and jap spec have same chain (13506-88600) - and rear sprocket (13506-22020)

  17. Two things to try. Once the window is up try holding the window switch in the UP position for 20 seconds. Don't release it during that time. Then see if the window winds down OK. If that doesn't work then get the window to the fully up position and then disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes. Just remove the negative lead only. When you reconnect do it smartly and firmly pressing the clamp firmly down on the battery terminal all the time. Do not overtighten. Now try again.

  18. maybe this is strange but perhaps to rule out an issue take a pic of the display when in reverse and upload here and someone could upload there's and at least it would be possible to confirm if there is actually an issue?

  19. Change the alternator ? if the alternator is dead it will flatten the battery quickly - In simple terms you run out of electricity

  20. It actually looks pretty good to me. It's better quality than my old Jazz. It's not ultra-high definition but seems more than adequate. It sounds like your unit might be faulty. Perhaps the lens (under the blue Toyota badge) needs cleaning.

  21. This is my 4th Toyota and always wanted an MR2 just for throwing about on some track days etc to keep my eye in...but will keep her for many years. Will certainly keep this post active with advancements! G
