  2. I have one of those 2.0 TS. I just love it. After almost 16.000 km I even like it more. What I'd change: the OEM tyres (terrible Falken Ziex) and a thing that you'll have solved: Android auto/car play. I have 17" alloys and I think it's the right size for this car. Have fun.

Runs a garage that also fully rebuilds engines. Which do you imagine is more profitable for them? You'll never save enough on oil changes to pay for one engine rebuild.

Also if you read your owners manual carefully you’ll find they usually recommend a shorter interval for cars subjected to extreme service. Not being driven very often falls into this category.

  5. North america/Canada use a different setup running Entune Software, EU models use a setup running Touch 2 and are very different in terms of functionality & software. As a UK based forum its unlikely anyone would have any knowledge or News for cars running Entune

  6. Contacted a Toyota dealer who failed to return my query regards supply and fit of third brake light . So glad they didn’t get back to me , purchased the unit from the Toyota ebay store £76 & delivered in two days . Very easy to fit remove black cover in top of boot hatch , remove connector and press down on the 2 metal retainer clips while pushing out . Slide the new unit in and it literally clicks into place , re connect and it’s done . 5 minutes and simple . When you purchase the new unit you’ll see how the clips work

  7. After 33.000 km I still smile every time I go for a ride. The drivetrain is so cool, and that really is the central aspect of a car. I like the overall design and the powerful engine combined with fine mpg. Weakness in my opinion: The electronics. - GPS is worse than my 5 year old 150 euro garmin nüvi. - Menu system feels somewhat sluggish and outdated. - When I turn on the car, it often starts out by telling me the Toyota server can't be found or some other error messages. - The lane departure/steering assist works ok on highways but it will sometimes try to take you off the road e.g when passing an exit. On smaller roads it really is best turned off. - Automatic high beam will occasionally blind other drivers. - The MyT app is rather lame, with limited functionality. - Road sign assist is not that reliable. So you should check this out carefully to see if this is a dealbreaker for you. I don't regret the purchase for a second, just to be clear. But I would compare it carefully to the new Seat Leon ST estate. I personally just trust Toyota more when it comes to reliability, especially after a lot of miles. Some people really hate the cvt transmission. I like it, but try pushing it to the limit to see and hear if it bothers you. And by the way, the dynamic radar cruise control works really well and never lets you down. Good luck with the test drive and decision!

  8. When the battery is dead or removed only the door with the keyhole will unlock and you can open the other doors from the inside. Measure the drain with a multimeter and start removing fuses when the drain stops you have found the circuit that is responsible for the drain

  9. Hi Steve, Having run a Corolla 2.0ltr TS Design since June, I have generally have nothing but praise for the car. Even though at first, it took a little bit of getting used to, after running a higher end spec Skoda Superb Mk3 manual diesel for the last 3 years. So some of the plus points for me are as follows, Average fuel consumption in the low 50's during general us Excellent ride Good turn of speed when needed Well above average handling on the right B roads Fits into your average parking spaces, when compared to the Superb The possible negatives points Interior too dark, too much like a minicab. Needs the lighter headlining as fitted to some Left Hand Drive models Satnav adequate when compared to what VW products have Lacks some of the nice touches that Skoda's and other VW models have Bit workman like But overall, it's a good little car. So enjoy your test drive, and don't forget to see what deals are on offer on the likes of Carwow Cheerypete

  10. I wouldn't recommend anything. I can point out options but it is down to the individual owners to decide whether they want to upgrade security on the chance that something may occur. For example on both of our cars, we use insurance approved steering wheel locks - which are a visual deterrent, over and above the existing security, and may be a delaying factor if someone were to try to steal our cars. If Toyota had contacted owners to highlight the fact their catalytic converters could be at risk, would they then be seen as profiteering or causing unnecessary concern for those who subsequently have additional security fitted, but whose vehicles aren't involved in theft? Have Ford and Vauxhall contacted owners of Fiestas and Corsas to say that thieves are stealing entire front ends of these (front wings, bonnets, front bumpers and panels, headlights, etc) and to take additional security measures? Nurse's Fiesta pictured that was cannibalised last year whilst parked on a street in Birmingham. Have owners of various vehicles with smart entry been contacted by manufacturers (Jaguar-Landrover, Ford, VW, Nissan, etc) to say their vehicles are at risk of key cloning and subsequent theft? We had a neighbour's new Fiesta ST stolen from outside our house at 11am on a Saturday morning last year - took literally a handful of minutes. Smashed the driver's window, climbed inside, plugged in a key cloning device into the OBD port to mimic the key, pressed the start button, and they were off!. Cat theft is just one example of current vehicle crime, and there is no easy answer to when or whether owners should automatically be contacted by dealers or manufacturers should there be surges in particular types of crime.

  12. For those interested in fitting a Cat lock, go on ebay and do a search, you will find plates from about £45, have it delivered and get a local garage to fit, job done for a lot cheaper then some.

Nonsense. See the link I posted above. Also if you stop to think about it for more than a minute or two you'll realise why blindly following the manufacturer's recommend intervals is silly if you intend on keeping the car a long time. At the point of sale, low maintenance is a selling point, especially for fleet buyers. The car looks better on paper because its running costs are apparently lower. But the company selling you the car only really care about it making it out of the warranty period, beyond that.. who cares? If it suffers catastrophic engine failure at 110k they can sell you a new one. Bonus. Ultimately it's up to you and based on various factors that I've already mentioned, and if you don't plan on keeping your cars for more than a few years then changing it less often probably won't matter (to you at least). The only reason I'm pointing this stuff out is that a lot of people read forums and I would strongly encourage anyone reading this to do their own research and talk to actual technicians and garage owners before deciding not to change their oil.

No I would be doing as the manufacturer recommends and what I said earlier on, I. E time or distance, so either yearly or the mileage that they recommend, you can keep trying to convince me but unfortunately I just don't think it's right to change it unless something very extreme (by extreme I don't mean sitting for a few weeks) has happened to the car.

Oil has a shelf life of 5 years so I can’t see why it should be changed any more often than is recommended by the manufacturer.

You're completely missing the point. It isn't just the miles alone that affect the condition of the oil, it's time and how the car has been driven. If it was last changed 5 years ago and had only covered 1700 miles in that time would you still be arguing that it was a waste of money to change it?

  21. Moved to the Aygo club. Whatever views may be expressed via these forums, you aren't able to quote using Toyota Owners Club as a resource. Aside from the above it is a security issue rather than safety.

"faulty logic" 🤣 or not I simply don't think a car need servicing more than the manufacturer recommends especially on something like the Rav4, it's hardly a high stress sports car (my usual car choice) as I originally stated its just my opinion but I think at 1700 miles your just chucking good money away.

I just don't consider it a problem tbh, even in the old days of very basic oil I only ever did the oil yearly and I have never had a single issue ever, some people like to tinker and waste money I guess.

It depends how the car is driven. 1700 miles in two weeks is ideal operating conditions for a car, any moisture in the crankcase will be getting regularly boiled off. That oil will be in very good condition. 1700 miles in 6 months however is a very different scenario and if it were my car I would change it. Moisture gets into the oil via condensation, if it isn't driven for extended runs up to temperature to boil the moisture off that stays in the oil and sludges it up over time.

1700 miles and you are worrying about changing the oil? 🤔, if we did that with my wife's car we would literally be changing the oil every two weeks! I stick with the manufacturers recommendations for time and distances, oil these days is very advanced and last alot longer than the old days, some say changing oil to often can have a detrimental effect on the engine, I just think its a waste of money and of course has a negative effect on the environment, anyway just my opinion and what do I know 😂.

  26. After thinking about this I just come back on to suggest formatting the usb as Fat32 and Devon Aygo had already said it. Try it. Also, I have an iMac and find it difficult to transfer music to a usb. I don’t think it’s as simple as “took the time to put cd’s on the mac then dragged them to the usb stick”. I have ditched using the iMac and gone back to using Windows PC (and Windows laptop), though keep using my iPad. I find Windows so much easier to use.

  27. No idea why your usb stick is not playing the music. But usb over cd is the way to go. You can get thousands of tracks on a usb, now many cd’s would that be. Also, I would imagine the number of new car buyers now that need a driver player is very few, so why must everyone have to pay the cost for something they not likely to use. I have had my Prius for over two years and I don’t think I used the cd once, all my music is on a single usb stick, about 1200 tracks, an play as album or artist or just random.

  28. The Ethanol content is the same no matter where you buy your fuel. https://blog.greenflag.com/2019/cheap-supermarket-fuel/ All fuel that’s sold in the UK must comply with legal standards set nationally and internationally. For example, currently the amount of ethanol in UK petrol is set at 5 per cent.

  29. Like most people, I’ve used nothing but supermarket fuel for the past 30 years or so. It is the same base fuel as any other supplier and by law, it has to conform to the same standards.

  30. Could be as simple as a faulty bulb, Avensis with DRL had two types of headlamp: Bulb type DRL and faux LED strip, this uses a twin filament bulb, a 21w filament for DRL, a 5w filament for sidelight and a plastic light guide which transmits light from the bulb along its length to look like an LED. These DRL have a traditional incandescent Yellow look. True LED which appear bright white as DRL and dim as side lights. If you have the more common Bulb type it is quite possible the LH DRL filament has blown but the sidelight filament is still functioning and you need a new bulb, if you have the LED as fitted to the higher spec models the LED is not serviceable and you will need a new headlamp.
