  1. No need. Question was answered by @DavidTC ๐Ÿ˜‰ Use it if you intend to leave one or more windows open when you park the car. It prevents pets or air movement from triggering the alarm.

  2. Hi Chaps Annoying ECO-Score Message - SOLVED! Much obliged for all your feedback. I'm sure I never would have found the way through the dogs-dinner of the Yaris Setup menus without you guys pointing me in the right directions - slide switches or not! I've taken a group of 6 pics to show how I've managed to disable that condescending and really annoying eco-score message at the end of every drive. Now it only shows a trip summary - I can certainly live with that - much more 'normal'.

  3. I opted for that on delivery of my 2019 Corolla (Gen3-Glasscoat + fabric protection inside). It's a good call as I do believe it toughens and protects the surface. I don't really have a problem with scratches or bird droppings (which I clean off ASAP). Washing the car is a breeze too - comes up shiny with no waxing. Some people swear they can get the same or better protective result by washing, waxing and buffing a car with expensive products. That's not for me, though - too old and lazy!

  4. After years of owning VWs (and being active on forums) everyone moaned about the quality of paint there. Itโ€™s just the same here - my conclusion: all paints are softer than they used to be and scratch easily.

  5. Er, I would wash it sooner rather than later, I have a black Corolla and the paint marks quite quickly. I seem to have found the answer to this problem, using Crome fly away seems to remove stubborn stains

  6. I do love the C-HR look, but not for me on a 3 counts, mine is the big lugger in the family for when we need to carry a lot of stuff, C-HR boot is too small for my work equipment, also 2.0 so only gets the lower AFR rate, whilst its MPG would easily break even as the lower rate expects you to keep above 47mpg, the RAV being 2.5L gets the higher rate which only needs you do 30mpg. As my RAV does 55mpg+ all day there is the potential to make quite a lot of 'profit' - enough to virtually cover my contribution towards the lease, making the car virtually 'free' I quite like the look of the Black edition but used to the luxury of the Excel, I never knew I needed a heated steering wheel until I had one! lol

  7. I think I probably know the answer to this one: - I have just bought a Yaris Excel Mk4 Hybrid (registered Sept 2020) after having my previous Yaris Mk3 Hybrid written off by a dim-sighted white-van-man a month ago. Love the car (as I did my old one) but I just canโ€™t abide the Eco-Score thing which shows up on the meter display after each journey. It gives a percentage score and three bars showing start, cruise and stop, together with some firmly worded โ€˜adviceโ€™ on how I can โ€˜improveโ€™ my eco-driving. I donโ€™t need my car telling me how to drive it thank you, especially when the algorithms Toyota are using to gauge such things donโ€™t always appear to be fully related to real-life traffic conditions. Does anyone know how to disable this condescending and increasingly annoying eco-score message appearing every time I switch off my car? Iโ€™ve looked in vain online and it appears that you can customise most things on the Yaris meter display - but apparently not this. Iโ€™m really hoping someone here knows something different. Chris

  8. Hi everybody, Thanks for all of your replies, itโ€™s appreciated. I did check every page of the User Guide that came with the vehicle, including โ€˜Theft Deterrent Systemโ€™ section on page 35 before I asked you guys the question. I checked again after reading your replies and can confirm that there is no mention of it there. I then decided to download the manual from My Toyota after entering the vehicles VIN. On this version of the manual, the โ€˜Theft Deterrent Systemโ€™ is on page 102 and includes details relating to this button. So thanks again for your help, Iโ€™ll be able to sleep tonight after my weeklong search!

  9. Yeah the vacuum tests on these automatic AC machines are rubbish - Unless the leak is so bad you can probably hearing it hissing they never seem to notice! Good luck with the Volvo - I hope to heck the AC system in the Mk4 hybrid I have now never breaks; It uses a different oil because PAG is conductive and the AC unit is powered by an electric motor, and uses the newer 1234yf gas - Both of which are significantly more expensive and hardly anyone does it apart from Toyota! I almost wish they'd used R744 (CO2!) instead! That has its own downsides, like the ~2000PSI required, but at least it is cheap and isn't flammable unlike 1234yf!

  11. Basically, report it to the police and your insurance company; The police will give you a crime number but are unlikely to be any help past that unless they get lucky with nabbing the cat thief. Your insurance company will usually handle the replacement side of things - Make sure they get you a courtesy car, if your policy includes that, and try and get the insurance company to stump up for a catloc to be fitted too when the cat is replaced. Some will do it free if you argue that without it the new cat will just get nicked again and they'll have to pay for another replacement, but others will only contribute part of the cost and some just refuse out right. The lead time on the replacement cats varies - My work colleague had his fixed within a week and had a catloc put on too, whereas my mate in Chester had to wait over a month for his to get done. The lead times seem to be coming down a bit as Toyota have ramped up cat production to meet demand - they should be a lot shorter than before, but some news places report a new spike in cat thefts so that may increase the lead time. It occurs to me that reading this out of context could be very confusing for future people if they're not aware that we're talking about catalytic converters and not meow cats

  13. Hi Ko, sorry about your incident, did your cctv catch it? I hope the police are helpful but their record up to now has mostly been appalling. Call them, the best you may get is an incident number (useful if you go through insurance). If the cctv can identify them of what vehicle they were in they may be interested. From what I hear from TOC and elsewhere a dealer order to replace could take weeks for a replacement, and they costly, I heard figures of between ยฃ1200 and ยฃ2000. Non Toyota replacements can be obtained but again reports suggest not as well as Toyota stuff. May get one of an accident/scrap mk1 Auris hybrid from scrapper or eBay. Your not the first to report on here, and you wonโ€™t be the last. The danger is, the thieves know it will be replaced and so come back again in the future. Have you got a hungry Alsatian or Rottweiler by any chance.

  15. Everything really hinges on whether the system still has pressure in it which if it does precludes the chance of moisture entering. You can easily tell by just blipping the valve on the service port on the exposed pipework (its like a car tyre valve). If refrigerant is in there it will come out like a high pressure aerosol (beware of frost burns if you try that). If the system is empty then the big problem as has been pointed out is moisture entering. It all depends how long it has been like that and how big the point of entry to the air is. The compressor oils that circulate in the system are incredibly hygroscopic and not only absorb moisture but also form an acid when this happens and that would cause damage. Hope you get it resolved and let us know how you get on.

  19. @Avalon, Iโ€™m very new to Toyota but looking through the posts it does seem that you are 100% correct. There are things a had on my Skoda Yetis that were just used everyday that a brand like Toyota could adopt that would enhance the product driving experience using whatโ€™s already in the car. One of the features I really miss was the dipping wing mirrors when you selected reverse, so simple but so useful, just enough to see how close to a high curb you are.

  20. In regard to modern/Japanese cars being worse, my wife bought a used 2018 Suzuki s-cross. She isn't the most careful driver, and rubbish gets flung into the back for the rubbish tip, it gets stuff dragged along it, hedges caught, and on, and on....I cringe. That dirt cheap little motor hardly has a mark on it, except from the previous owner, the paint finish isn't even quite right, but the !Removed! thing is tough as nails and puts mine to shame!!! Oh, and it's black, like my excel (scratches don't polish out by the way,I already tried that )

  21. Car shampoo that I can recommend for home old school car washes is this one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124703490446 Just add to bucket of water and make it foamy, this thing has wax inside and make the car shiny even without been ever polished. Cleans dirt very well too., lasts ages as is 5ltr and reasonably priced. Scratches almost unavoidable on any car tbh, especially dark colours. Seen more black Corollas recently I started to like them how they look.๐Ÿ‘

  25. Have you check continuity and resistance between the socket and a body ground No you can not remove it from the front as it's locked in position and the wiring is too short you may be able to pop off the heater controls/surround with a trim tool and reach the back of the socket

  31. My experience with car paints is that the best one I ever touched was on the Mercedes S class, and yes all German top brands in general, where all Japanese makes have less durable paint work. Lexus and infinity perhaps come closer to the German cars.
    1 point
  32. Sorry Bernard you are not correct. No current car manufacturer uses waterborne top coats in car production as they are not durable enough. Yes many use waterborne base coats but not top coats. Many top coats are indeed higher solids (less solvent) than years ago and the polymers are therefore often softer and less durable as a result. Japanese car paint in particular is often softer than other makes- particularly the premium German brands

  35. they have lost center point of your epb im guessing or by chance did they take off the plug that connect to the air filter as tbh i did this when i serviced my car and well i forgot to connect up the plug again that threw up that problem with the epb .i plugged it back in again and was all good. but tbh i bought my car and shorty after buying it i bought a cable and toyota techstream software from ebay to run any faults on it. by the sounds of it think you need the toyota techstream software to reset the center point of the epb

  36. This independent garage has carried out faulty workmanship to your car. This has caused a fault which they cannot rectify. As you are getting the car checked and hopefully the work corrected by the main dealer you would be entitled to a full refund from the independent garage. If no joy from them use the charge back on your credit card.

  37. The old Corolla only had one fog light, but it was a popular thing to wire the other side up as the cluster had the bulb holder there. You could put in a bulb and cable it you want, if the other side also has a bulb holder, the more light the better ?! However, it could invalidate your warranty if you do so and not sure if your new model has these resistor/Can-bus type bulbs ??

  38. JF Harris, water drops from the windshield into a trough at the rear of the engine bay. The wiper motor is in this trough. At each end of the trough there are drain holes (slits). They are over the rear of the wheel arches. These have to be kept clear of course. I would assume a better solution is to seal up these two drain slits, then drill two holes into the side of the trough, insert some rubber tube, sealed to the side of the trough, fixed with cable ties, and then direct the water away to the ground via the engine bay.

  42. Rly? Thoose Toyota claimed 0-100 times are not correct. I have timed my 2.0 D4D Avensis at 8,8 seconds while Toyota says it its doing 10 sec and the 177 DCAT Avensis is claimed doing 8 sec. The Rav4 with the same 177 hp engine must be faster than the claimed 9 seconds, but i guess its computer controlled so it makes the car slower. I bet those people who timed those 0-100 at Toyota must be really slow at gear changing.
    1 point
  43. I'm really sure the Rav4 177 Dcat can do 0-10 in 7 to 8 seconds. A front wheel drive Dcat Avensis can do 0-100 in 8 seconds and 7 seconds if you change gears right and the Rav4 being a 4WD drive car it can do it faster! The D4D and DCAT engines do tend to smoke and get poor mpg when the have driven 300000 km. When you are looking at a Rav4 to buy make sure to drive it until the engine is warm and see if it smokes when you floor it. Also check the mpg and see if it lives up the claimed range. But the problem is rare and only models under 2012 had this issue. And D4D and DCAT engines can take chiptuning without any problems.

  44. Mine seem to suffer from the effects of dirt more than previous cars. I've started cleaning them weekly and the improvement on Monday morning is quite marked. I remain sceptical about the auto-dip function - it seems to have a problem detecting cars above or below me. My previous car had the feature I was happy to accept that it 'knew best' but I'm far from sure with the Corolla and on a couple of occasions have cancelled the main beam myself rather than risk blinding someone. But so far I've only been flashed once and that was someone who was trigger happy since they were approaching from around a long bend and could only have seen the glow over the hedge.

  45. No point in contacting Toyota USA as they didn't import the Verso for sale in the US (the Verso is a European market vehicle). Even if Toyota view these forums, and we don't know whether or not they do, it would be Toyota GB and not Toyota Japan. The oil filter was the reason your car failed. By using a non-Toyota dealer for servicing your car, any goodwill with out of warranty repairs from Toyota Turkey will have been lost. Goodwill works both ways - the customer shows goodwill by having their vehicle serviced within the manufacturers service network, and the manufacturer by assisting with out of warranty repairs, where applicable. Servicing outside the dealer network means the manufacturer cannot trace what work has actually been done nor whether suitable parts have been used.
    1 point
  46. Hello Ayhan, sorry to hear of your problem. First of all, this forum is based in the UK, so you not contacted Toyota USA. Secondly, this forum is independent of Toyota motor company, in fact the moderator of this forum says it is very unlikely any Toyota official would read this forum. So, after warranty expires you have a service done at a non Toyota garage. You journey 800 km then have an engine problem - lack of oil, due to the engine oil leakage due to engine oil filter O ring seal not fitted at time of service. That is poor workmanship at that non Toyota garage you had your car serviced at. Have you been back to that garage and informed them that due their neglect (not fitting the O ring) your engine lost most of its oil and now has a serious mechanical failure. That is where the real problem lies, that independent garage. It was their duty of care to perform a professional service on your car which they have failed to due due to their neglect. So, that to me is the real source of your problem. At this moment I assume you been back to the independent garage with the problem...... what did they say?
