  1. I read somewhere that chosing a white car shows you are pure of heart, is that why I like white and own one?

  3. Indeed, I just got a new Auris with the Touch & Go and I am not really impressed... 1. Slow to start up 2. Expensive map upgrades @ £109.00 3. Poor traffic camera alert warning beep with no apparent way to change it? 4. Primitive traffic updates via FM radio commercial stations 5. I have failed so far to import any destinations either direct, via their website or from address in my Android phone phone book. In my last Auris I had an after market dashboard JVC unit fitted which was so much better other than map updates that were £80.00

  11. Hello Grumpy, I bought the tyres from Black Circles they are called Energy saver G1 and cost one hundred and eight pounds forty seven pence each. Only 3 types were shown for my car so I presume your tyre size is different to mine. The rating was C for fuel economy, there were none with a better rating. It's Prius V8 by the way !! Thunderbolt

  12. White may be the colour to go for today but by the time you trade it in the fashion could well have changed to another colour as the used market will be flooded with white cars and the dealers will not be so keen to offer you the expected 5% :(

  15. I called 999 for an ambulance today. "What seems to be the problem?" asked the operator. "I stumped my toe on the coffee table." I replied. "And you want an ambulance for that?" he laughed. I said, "No, it's for my wife, she shouldn't have laughed."

  17. I am relaxed about anyones view being expressed on this forum, as long as it is the truth as they perceive it to be, then that's all fine by me. We have enough prevention of free speech in the UK already imposed upon us by "big bother" the establishment and as long as it is not a direct threat to another individual it is just an expression of free speech and that is what a democratic society should be all about. What other people think about me is none of my buisness ! Have a Nice Day !

  21. I bought the Toyota spare light bulb kit from the local dealer and although expensive at £30.14, it was only the cost of a headlight bulb from elsewhere. Actually the friendly dealer gave me a 10% discount too as I bought the car from them so it came to about £27.00 Here is some pictures showing the contents and the part number if anyone wants to get one. I now carry this kit in the car as I'm always amazed at the amount of cars I see on the road with non working lights. One day on the way to work in the dark I saw 12 cars with faulty headlights and 2 cars with faulty rear lights! I only drive 30 minutes to work as well. I lost count of the number of BMW and Audi cars with non working indicators...... :) Craig.

Incidentally i am impressed with your posts about low rolling resistance tyres, I thought i knew all there was to or needed to know about tyres, just goes to prove the more you learn the more you realise you didn't know and what more there might be to pick up too! :D

  28. Think Osram have only recently begun making the HIR2 bulbs, which could be a reason for the delay. Having said that, I've ordered stuff from Amazon in the past with a similar lead time, and always got the item within about three weeks, sometimes sooner. As regards the bulb kits, send Parts King a personal message to see what price he can do them for (need to state details of what car you've got, etc). I've also contacted Osram and asked whether they are likely to be making a Nightbreaker Plus/Unlimited upgrade bulb in the HIR2 9012 fitment.

  31. Yeah it's not that bad. But if you're going to install the new bumper, you should do something to the reflectors. For example install some LED lights in there which will double your rear lights :)

  32. When a member starts to be abusive about an entire mark because he has had a bit of bad luck / poor driving skills it is not in the interest of our forum to sit back and allow them to rubbish the car. If the same fault had happened to several cars then I could understand it and we would be on his side but the evidence did not support it. We will not allow any member to abuse other members for any reason just because they have a different point of view as we try to keep this a friendly forum to visit to promote learning and sharing. So if the toys go out the pram so does the post....

  34. As you have discovered the Toyota Touch screen cannot be easily ( without extreme expense ) be fitted to your Auris. The Touch screen was a factory only part as the fitting involved a different steering wheel, vehicle wiring harness, interior lamp, tail gate, tailgate handle etc, the "go" navigation was the optional part. See http://www.toyota-tech.eu/Aim/Aim.aspx?pubtype=AIM&menuitem=3 if you select: "Auris" "2010/01 MMC Gen1" "Installation manual" "Navigation systems" Here you can the options for your car plus the optional "Go" nav for touch screen cars.

  36. You haven't said what type of environment you reside in - rural, urban, etc. Common causes of such interference can include: * The National Grid's data transmissions over pylon cables, which is on the increase with smart metering. * Emergency band transmissions from Fire, Police, etc. * Military communications. * Vehicle mounted radar detectors of the type used to warn of Police speed traps. Do you have a Police station or similar near to you with communications masts on the roof?

  39. Hello, I fully agree with Pedro, neutral has no impact on that device. Yes the car stays unlocked if you unlock manually above 12 mph. Christophe

  40. Dave, it opens the doors 'only' if: - You switch the engine off, - (*) You press the 'unlock' button (on the driver seat), or - (*) You crash (I have no tested this feature yet: I trust on your test :) ) But it does not unlock when on neutral (and it makes sense, as you're on neutral on every traffic light -just when you want to have the doors closed) (*) In fact, I think the module only works if you switch the engine off -or if you put the P in automatic-, and whenever speed gets greater than 12 mph: the rest of the unlocks are driven by the original car (I mean: the module locks whenever you reach 12 mph, and unlocks whenever engine is stooped, or P is selected. I want to test what happens if I unlock while driving faster than 15 mph, but I guess it will remain unlocked until you stop the car -not the engine-, and reach again the 12 mph. Unfortunately, my wife kidnaps my car each Monday, so testing will have to wait) Regards.

  41. Hi Mark Don know if toy have manual or Auto. The module we have from china plugs into the OBD2 diagnostic socket located roughly where your right hand shin is. It operates at about 12mph and stays locked until either you open the door or with an auto, put it in park. My assumption is on manuals its when you put the car in neutral. It also unlocks if you break hard thus simulating a crash. Costs about £20 But does take 3 weeks to arrive. If you want the link just ask. David David

  42. Hi there You have probably done more testing than me. I have never tested the passenger door when i have manually locked the car from the drivers side even before getting the auto device. Also i have not tested the door alarms either. Will test soon. Away in Amsterdam until Sunday so will check when i get back David

  43. Hi, mine did arrived on monday, but as my wife has kidnapped the iq, I was not able to test it until yesterday My car is manual, so I do not have the 'P' problem; I plugged the OMD with the car on, and as soon as I started to walk, doors where locked -anyway, this is not a point, as you only do it once in your life. Locking happens around 20 km/h (¿15 mph?); it's not the 8 mph, but it's also enought. I do not like the way to open the 'non-driver-seat' door, as you can not do as in most of the cars -double-lifting the handle-, but you need to press the unlock, and the pull the handle. I guess this is a iq problem / feature I vave not tested the 'crash simulation' (good point David) I'll do it shortly What does not work in mine is the warning lights when oppening the door with the engine on. It's not a problem -for me it's enougth with the automatic door closed-, but I report it as it was commented here Any more hints are wellcome!

  44. Christophe The module arrived today. The first thing i noticed that with the engine running ( not in P mode), i plugged the unit in, then pulled away and nothing happened. I turned the engine off and restarted, then pulled away and sure enough the doors locked. They opened again when "(P)" was selected. I also found that whilst the doors were locked and i was doing slow speed 12 mph and suddenly braked hard, they opened so kind of tested as in a crash situation. They locked at 12-15 mph again so all round very good David

  45. Hello, I just installed the same gadget on my second IQ. I just noticed it now unlocks doors as soon as the CVT gearbox returns to P (engine still running). I need to double check with my first gadget. I thought it was unlocking doors when engine was swithed off... May be I was wrong, or the Chinese guys modified the firmware. Of course, they claim the doors will also unlock in the event of an accident (airbags). But I prefer not to test it... ;-)

  46. I always flash my headlights at fellow iQers to a mixed response. Some"get it " and flash back. Many look confused at the madman flashing them. I've lost count of the number of times that I have been approached in car parks by people interested in the car. This leads me to re-iterate a comment I made in another thread in that I am amazed that the iQ isn't more popular in the UK. My only conclusion is people are put off by the small/non existent boot and go no further. It's only once you drive the car you appreciate what a special vehicle it is indeed. People may also think that it is a car only suitable for the city. It's not. We did nearly 350 miles mostly all motorway at the weekend and the car was comfortable and economical beyond belief. Maybe we should just accept it's motoring's best kept secret and those of us in the know are the lucky ones !
