  1. Hi IQ Forum, Bit about myself...my names Omar and I live just outside London/Essex, hope to see some IQ owners around! Recently bought a Toyota IQ3 as a run around but its made its way to be my main car...absolutely love the little thing, especially seeing peoples reactions when I tell them about the seats in the back haha It's a Toyota IQ3 in silver, 6 speed manual box, with sat nav, folding mirrors, auto wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, and also the ipod connection near the gear stick so pretty decked out with gadgets...surprisingly good for such a small car! I've been reading the forum for a while but just signed up today and thought I'd introduce myself. Only gripe I have with the car is the maps don't work anymore...previous owner messed around with the memory card and a slight rattle from left side of engine around 2k rpm (need to look at this, probably something slightly loose?). Apart from that I am very pleased with the car...especially its tiny turning circle! Gave it a full service as soon as I purchased with all filters and fluids changed, used 5w30 oil but not sure if its my ears...engine seems a bit louder? Will be looking at doing a few of the mods I have read about on here for sure too Anyways, hope to talk to you guys soon!

  2. Think with PSA's (Peugeot and Citroen) recent financial troubles (ie having to be bailed out by the French Government and the Chinese manufacturer, Dongfeng Motors) they were looking to cull low selling models.

  3. Toyota have stuck with their tried and tested Petrol Hybrid setup. If you want a diesel you will need to get a 2WD non Hybrid version. As Frosty has said, globally diesel is a dinosaur and becoming more unpopular by the day. Sure it will have it;s place in certain cars, but Hybrid Diesel? You will need to change marques for that

  4. Toyota's main markets over and above Europe are America and Asia. Diesel as a means of propelling cars, has never been as popular in their main markets, as in Europe. This is partly why Toyota have begun using BMW designed diesel engines in the European market, as it saves development costs, and provides a relatively cheap way of getting up to date diesel engines for use in Europe. .... and then there is the possible long term effect on diesel engines of the current Volkswagen debacle ........

  6. The rigid pipe running from the engine bay to the rear flexi will need replacing. Most mechanics will make the pipes up on-site using a roll of pipe cut to length and bent to fit a particular vehicle. The pipe used is malleable and corrosion proof and will last the life of the car. It's likely that the garage will recommend replacing both sides at the same time which will probably make sense. Parts will cost less than £20. The labour will be around 3 hours for a garage with a vehicle lift. A Toyota specialist isn't required as the brake setup is fairly universal. DIY is doable if you fancy wrestling a snake with the car on jack stands. Because the original pipes are so hard (and inaccessible) a joint cannot easily be created so patching the offending section of pipe really isn't an option (or advisable) but it can be done.

  7. All cars are a compromise. For everyone who loves that modern digital speedo there are many who long for a dial. Test drive a car, give it a good coat of looking at and see if it ticks the boxes that matter to you and if it does, buy it. If it doesn't, look elsewhere. There are some things about the Prius I'm not keen on or think could have been done better way. But overall I like it. I don't seek to issue a petition about the parts I don't like. I move on. If there are too many negatives to a car I don't buy it or I sell it. I fear the hybrid is a victim of its own success. Perhaps too many people are buying them purely for the tax saving reasons and thus come to dislike or resent the actual car? They long for that V6 diesel BMW Estate but their boss or their accountant won't let them have it and despite saving £2k a year with the hybrid, they just plain resent it. Or maybe you just can't please all the people all the time.
