  1. The rears having worn by 50% still gives plenty of life in them and as regards the one front tyre, 0.1mm difference is nothing

  2. I'd go back to them and quote the Fixed Price Service costs for each service - which for the 4 year plan comes to £826 excluding brake fluid changes for the two Intermediate, one Full+ and one Full services. If they come down in price (which my dealer did), you could include the two brake fluid changes for around £904. Whatever 'extras' you get included (brake fluid change, air con service, MOT's or whatever), get these written into the service plan - that way each party knows for certain what is included and what isn't. Also query whether there are any additional benefits - for example my current plan provides 10% off accessories, parts and labour for other items I buy or work I have done outside of the service plan.

  3. Just broach them on the subject of the CVT and ask how often they check the gearbox oil level and how often the CVT gearbox oil should be changed.I.m just curious to know what they say.

  4. Hybrid diesel makes little sense, the world is switching away from diesel because of the NOX/emissions (nothing to do with VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda/BMW software etc. just diesel being a fuel that pollutes in a more damaging way than petrol). Historically diesel returned better mpg and was cheaper, the EU moved to diesel and they were wrong to do so, now (like when they said fat was the problem and ignored sugar) we're emissions focused and suddenly diesel doesn't make sense, in that time small petrol's have improved and are now more economical with less harmful emissions so as the euro emissions standards and taxation push diesel to the fringes oem's will drop them. Sooner or later almost everything will be hybrid as we drive towards lowering emissions even though from an environmental position we'd be better off focusing on other sources of NOX as driving is a small % of the damage done on a daily basis. Either way over the next few years we're going to see a lot of interesting quirks thrown up as oem's try different approaches and licence what works (Toyota/BMW for example) and ditch what doesn't. AWD with an electric motor sounds a great idea assuming it's capable and the motor can stand up to situations where it's required. I suspect most RAV owners rarely need AWD and those that do make use of it only do so for limited periods so having it as 2wd (as the RAV 4.3 started over a certain speed) makes sense.

  5. I’ve had some of these health checks done on mine when one or other of my cars were in for warranty work etc. I’m sure the garage you’re dealing with is entirely diligent and scrupulously honest but I’ve noticed a couple of things with mine. For one thing my spare tyre (brand new, space saver, never been on the road had its tread depth reported as 5mm, 6mm 8mm and 3mm on separate visits! For another when i told them my spare tyre was low on pressure and they reported they had inflated it i still found it was low. I’ve also noticed they reported having to top up fluids when I had specifically checked my fluid levels before I went in and made sure they were OK. Oh well I guess the mechanics have to pauchle their oil somewhere for their home jobs. It’ll be interesting to see what your results are but remember, trust and verify.

  6. Your fault sounds like one mentioned in a Toyota service bulletin ref EG-0096T-1011 or EG-0111T-0910-EN Some customers may complain that intermittently there is excessive white smoke coming from the exhaust during accelerations. The fix is either a software update or a new AF sensor and software update so nothing too serious, if you where unlucky enough to have a failed head gasket unfortunately you would not be covered as your car was built well after the final fix point and features a different variation of the AD engine not included in the warranty extension.

  7. I needed to glue cracked indicator on my driver side mirror on the T25. It doesn't need to take out mirror (glass) but I didn't know... It's enough to remove back cover and indicator is attached with 2 screws there. I unglued transparent indicator cover from indicator assembly by blade (last picture). I wander why nobody makes/sells just transparent indicator cover which would costs £5 and 10 minutes work to replace, instead of change whole indicator or mirror. In fact always/ usually this cover been broken.
