  1. Got my 2016 Yaris Icon Hybrid last July and since then my MPG has varied between 62 summer and 52 winter. I do a lot of short trips around town and the occasional long trip involving motorway driving. I find the type of journey has little impact on consumption, temperature has the largest effect. MPG started to drop below 60 in November and is now steady at 52. I always calculate MPG from full tank to full tank though I find the trip computer in the car to be fairly accurate to within 1-2 MPG. My previous Hyundai i20 Auto only managed 30-40 mpg and was useless on short trips. The Yaris is a much nicer to drive as well.

  2. Don't forget that these older hybrids pay zero VED!

  4. Yes, well there's an argument against that. ChrisFix on Youtube showed how to do it, but Scotty Kilmer on YT says that method is purely temporary as all it does is remove the discoloured coating. So it'll depend on how long I think I'm going to keep the car as to whether I have a go at the headlamp or not. Or if we get some nice weather. ;)

  5. Yes, I was well aware of that when we bought ours! Also, previous car was a 2011 Fiat500 Twinair with zero VED too. Mick.

  7. I think he means the painted part is colour CODED to the car, the mirrors are not coded into the car like some sort of programming

  8. Now thats funny.... Driven with a average of more than "1 mile pr. minute" engines normally only lasts until 20.000 miles. So a little convoy sets off to the autobahn in Germany, and drives ud and down until they reach 20.000 miles. 10 min. teatime is required every time they stop for fuel, so the hightech masterpiece in front of the brilliant BMC car is'nt stessed out.

  10. I think your dead right regarding the 225/45 x 17 that goes on the Excel and maybe the Design trim. But our one has 195/65 x15 tyres on it (Icon Hybrid), which doesn't get the directional label. On the newer Icon, Icon+ and Business Edition models there would be 205/55 x16 fitted. Another of our cars has that size, I didn't think that has any arrows as it's a tyre size with no performance pretensions, e.g. found on older, lower spec. Mondeos and Focuses. So yes, certainly worth looking at the label before you go ahead to change them!

  11. Also, no belts anywhere, all pumps are electric - steering, water pump and servo. Heater and aircon work when petrol engine is off. Basically, the Toyota hybrids drive like full EVs but without range problems.

  12. Yes there are usually a row of arrow heads indicating the direction of rotation of the wheel, I supoce you could try swooping the front with the rear tyres.

  14. Not sure if this will work or how long it will stay on the site but if you download the attached zip file, unzip it to a single folder, browse to the "rm11t4e folder and then double click "index2" you should get the Toyota manual for the iQ Craig. Toyota_iQ_manual.zip

  15. I had to remove the whole ashtray and power socket unit, to replace the illumination bulb earlier this year. This involved stripping the lower dashboard and centre console. The next series of photos are of the dismantling process. I think the white plastic is part of the release lock mechanism. The final two picture are for removing the the front facia screws to remove the ashtray. YOU may not need to do this yet, if you can fix the catch. This picture (sorry for the blurred quality should show the catch mechanism. (better photo shown earlier) It was January this year, I did the illumination bulb replacement, so cannot remember the full details, without doing another strip down. I should have taken more better detailed photos at the time. Many apologies.

  16. Currently .... but which may not be the case if Government introduce further changes to VED rates.
