  1. This is my first Prius and I love it to bits, but I can't agree on the build quality when looking at interior trim as I have numerous rattles and creaks that are starting to grate. They have gotten worse in the cold weather and I have managed to get rid of one that was really bugging me, albeit rather crudely. Build quality as in reliability, then yes 100%. Everything else I love and it certainly won't be my last Prius, but I will not be getting a facelift as its lost a whole chunk of its characty, so it will be next Gen for me

  2. Thanks for posting. Those images confirm that the facelift is a step backward in design. However, given the apparent popularity of the horrifically bland (and terrible) Hyundai Ioniq, Toyota probably think they'll sell a few more by getting rid of all the interesting angles. I hope this strategy fails, so the Gen5 can go back to looking properly challenging again! As an aside, that article seems to be another illustration of the vast chasm between the motoring press - and its chronic obsession with driving rapidly for 'fun' - and what buyers are really interested in. Who in the world, outside a tiny group of journos with nothing better to do, actually cares whether you can entertain yourself by drifting a Prius on snow?

  3. Just got a recall letter from Toyota via DVSA (or the other way round), 'regarding possibility that a crack could develop in the fuel suction plate due to insufficient strength of the resin channel. In this condition the crack could expand over time and eventually fuel may leak causing fuel odour to be emitted.' My car is amongst those subject to the recall. I have to make an appointment, and the car need to have less than a 1/4 full of fuel. My car has not exhibited any signs of fuel leak yet, but the check for the crack will confirm the problem. Hopefully they have a stock of parts and the repair is done within the day.

  4. My PHV rattles and buzzes now. It didn't when I got it in September. It's not quite as bad as my Gen3 (which rattled just as much when it was on 15s as it did when it was on 17s) and it doesn't really bother me. It may even be something that I've put in one of the storage boxes - I'm just too lazy to empty everything to find out. I also suspect that I am at least partially responsible as I regularly play bass-heavy tracks at excessive volume on the JBL stereo. If the bass is rattling my fillings, it's probably rattling the dash fixings loose as well!

  5. For £750, one could buy a high range TomTom, Garmin or similar with lifetime updates, and have a considerable cost saving. Although what constitutes 'lifetime' is decided by the sat nav manufacturer, rather than being one's period of ownership, so one needs to be aware of that. Depends how often one uses the sat nav, whether you prefer an integrated system, etc.

  7. What brings the EML on? Must be a few things that create the alarm I would think. What about oil pressure, big-end wear and cylinder compression? What sort of life did the previous Yaris have before it was broken up at the breaker's yard? Do you know anything about the history? Mick.

  8. Have you checked Toyota's own recall checker - https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/recall-checker#/iframe/https%3A%2F%2Fforms.toyota.co.uk%2Frecall-checker

  9. I go with 10/10 too. It’s 19 months now since I bought my first Toyota hybrid, a 2010 Auris. Loved it but really wanted a Prius so that came just 12 months ago with a gen3. Loved that so much that 6 months ago got a 2016 Gen4. This I rate as the best car I have had, and I have had a large number in my 54 years of driving. Just so relaxing to drive, very comfortable, at 74 mpg since I got it end of July I well happy. Insurance wasn’t a stinger neither. And I like the looks, certainly something different to the run of the mill harchbacks.

  10. Good. I'd give mine 10/10 and 100% for reliability too. It is impossible to overstate the feelgood factor of driving a truly reliable vehicle. Sadly, this never seems to feature in magazine reviews, where the glitz and glamour of a damped cupholder or a fake stitched-leather dash top are considered more relevant to judging a car's 'build quality' than whether it will actually run for a year without anything breaking.

  11. Toyota dealer told me that the pearl white paint was being mixed when an earthquake hit and they believe the quantity of adhesive which was being added to the top coat (pearl white) was severely reduced and that is why the paint is starting to peel off all the IQs that were painted with this batch of paint, right up till 2013 when they found out about the problem. Don't know if this is true but that's what they told me, What do you lot recon true or false ?? LOL
