  1. Doubt it would bother them to be honest, have you seen the video? Low life thug prepared to pull up in the middle of the road, hold the traffic up while he steals the cat, not bothered in the slightest, plates on his car probably cloned so the chances of finding him would be slim

  2. Oh they do! Battery powered angle grinder, sod the noise it makes, several can be stolen off the likes of Hilux etc in a minute, just grind through and gone, causes thousands of pounds of damage. We keep all our Hilux locked up in the workshop at night

  3. Out of interest how old is the battery? The puff of whitish/greyish smoke is probably unburnt diesel from the failed start. I would have thought. is your car a 150 or 180 bhp model?

  4. Funny how things turn out - I had a test drive in an NX in 2014 and eventually decided against partly because the ride and seating were just too firm for comfort (odd for a Lexus - perhaps because it was the F-Sport version?). I wrote up some notes at the time: http://www.biwel.com/pmb01/PeteBs Lexus NX Test Drive.pdf - they were aimed at a Prius owning audience to some extent so some of the comments relate to that. At the time, I wasn't interested in a RAV4 for a number of reasons, but the new model does appeal, partly because as I get older my hips are starting to protest at how low the latest generation Prius sits to the road. A big downer for me is the lack of a Heads Up Display - something I've grown to use extensively for the last 7 years and almost 100,000 miles. One saving grace is the new digital dash on the RAV4, which means I can choose a digital speedo (I hate old fashioned dials - not had them for 19 years and over 300,000 miles), although I wish the speedo digits were as large as those on the Prius. That's something I'll have to weigh up carefully once I get a test drive in an AWD RAV4. It's a shame we don't get some of the features the US market gets (even at extra cost), like heated screen and washer nozzles, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats and digital rear view mirror that isn't blocked by luggage or rear passengers. US reviewers have generally been complimentary about the ride comfort of the new RAV4, but said the road and wind noise at higher speeds is higher than they expected or would like. Something else I'll be considering careful (and measuring with my decibel meter). Once I get my test drive I'll try to post some notes here too.

  6. I've just checked on the Toyota website, it redirected me to eBay. It's £78.54, but you do get free P&P though😀

  7. The car will be stolen. They get a reg number from a matching legitimate car, same year/make/model and make that plate and put it on the stolen car, makes it look legal

  8. I've now settled my own argument. Had occasion to drive the 'old' 17-plate series 2 'Icon' version again today on a 65 mile round trip from a major city centre to a nearby town. Majority of journey on motorway at 70mph with cruise control on. Managed 58.9 mpg without trying. Also, car much quieter than the newer version with the larger wheels I drove the other weekend. Proof enough for me that the older version hybrid with the 15" wheels is the more economical car. The only think I prefer about the latest version is that you can view the battery level within the Speedo binnacle whilst driving.

  9. Yes, I felt that the Gen 3 was easier (according to the brochure Gen 3 ground clearance was 5.3" and Gen 4 5.1" - but of course that's not the whole story). I think the general setup in the Gen 3 will feel very familiar (plus you get more space in the front armrest box) The Auris TS will beat the Gen 4 Prius on rear headroom, not so sure about headroom - I could sit in the back of my Gen 3 ok but not the Gen 4. (both versions of the Prius beat the TS on rear legroom though) The boot is similar on the Gen 3 & 4 Prius - although in the latter the cars with a spare wheel will have slightly less than those without, and the Gen 4 lacks the underfloor space then Gen 3 had.

  10. There is a Toyota recall for this to get fixed. I've just had mine done and it cost nothing. Go to your local Toyota dealer to get it booked in. I would complain about the damaged paintwork too.

  11. At the end of the day, if the issue has reappeared despite the previous warranty repair, rather than keep going back to the dealer, you need to raise the issue directly with Toyota GB and ask for their intervention - https://www.toyota.co.uk/contact-us/ This was suggested previously when you first had the problem.

  12. Some kind a software, ecu issue or just gear selector switch issue maybe? Please update what dealer says. Hybrid doesnt have any ”neutral”, it just disconnects power from mg1 and mg2 electric motors and there is nothing moving fysically when selecting between D and N or R. Only in P there is parking paul mechanism what is applied. Great video if interested how HSD works.

  13. Usually if the lights dim while trying to start it would suggest a low battery, and yours isn't perfect at 12.78v. However you say the engine is turning over at the normal rate, where if the battery was a bit flat it should turn over a bit slower or restrained. Can you try jump starting it and see if it starts easy? If so then it's probably your battery.

It does seem that you get ripped in Eire.

  15. Dealers probably won't be able to do anything as yet. Toyota will be writing to owners of affected cars using information supplied by DVLA - so best wait for the recall letter. The fix is supposed to be a software update.

  16. The service intervals on our 2012 Avensis and 2011 Auris are 12 months or 10k miles, whichever comes first. IIRC you're allowed 1 month or 1k miles lenience.
