  1. Clunk noise on lower speeds, or while at standstill is sadly normal for most Toyotas from 2006-ish to 2010-ish. There are multiple topics about it, and TSB's for Toyota. If this is the only time you get the clunk, it should be the "no security concern" clunk. To try to fix this, go to the footwell, take the plastic boot that covers the steering shaft, try to tighten the nut if possible. If that is not loose, then it could be dried up grease, for this you would need to unscrew that bolt, take the splines apart and apply some lithium grease, and retighten (before you do this, you need to puth a mark on the splines, and put some big clamp on the wheel, or something else to stop it from moving). If you have clunks for example while driving normally, and at higher speeds, then whole different matter. Use search on the forum, the topic has been discussed multiple times.

Am I reading this right, you got a 12 year old car, with 400,000 km (that’s over 240,000 miles), with possibly (suspected) oil pressure problem, so much so you taken off the sump, then you go on a trip where the car is revved to 5500/6000 rpm. Why? I don’t think I revved any of the cars I driven in the whole of the 55 years I been driving to 5500+ rpm, never mind one with suspected engine problems.

  4. I think the above statement lies at the root of the problem. The factory fit system integrates at many levels with the vehicles engine management system (ECU) so that the engine automatically compensates for the additional the load the compressor causes. A different system will almost certainly not signal the ECU to alter fuelling and idle speed and the result is that you experience these issues. That is what I think is happening here.

  5. If the column is rattling it is likely to be in one of the splined couplings. The top of the shaft is in two parts on sliding splines (to allow reach adjustment of the wheel) - play is possible here. Also there are splined clamps on the intermediate shaft. Best to check for wear in UJ's and movement of splines. Car stationary with engine running and work the steering side to side.

  6. I have something similar that bothers me - there is no easy/fast way to switch from consumption per trip to consumption per tank. Or at least I could not find a shortcut. You need to dig in to several sub-menus in settings. Very inconvenient when you want to check the other reading from time to time. For comparison - all VW based cars (Seat, Skoda, etc.) can change this with a simple press a button on the wheel once average consumption is displayed...

  8. Indeed, the ability to customise the display to show just a few "critical" parameters would be nice. Not sure I'd bother with much more than speed, range and time of day.

  11. hi when you say hard to start is it a case where its cranking and almost firing up n then knocking off if so bad restricted spurious old fuel filter coukd be culprit i changed my old blue print one with genuine avensis one and put set of bosch glow plugs in my 2008 avensis check yur glow plugs using muktineter or by carefully removibg them and testing them w live and earth connectiobs mine were so bad engine was firing on one glow pkug after muktiple attemps 1 fuel filter genuine toyota filter only also quite expensive but deffo worth it 2 glow plugs check them see if they glow by taking em iut n doing glow test with liv n earth wires or resistance check 3 immobilizer or key make sure battery in key us good so signal doesnt get lost upon startup when pkaced into ignition barrel 4 high pressure pump and injecrors make sure all visually ok no leaks visually and connections to fuel fikter etc all clips fastened cirrectly 5 fuel filter housing if car starts first time after you having to hand prime in morning fuel filter housing may be culprit

  13. They do, Irish version has better options Specs than the uk one, I also watched the Canadian model last night I full leather interior really good car. Start seen them around London area as private hire vehicles, seems like people want some change over the Prius .

  16. Its not like Cruise control... But I use it all the time Probably the best way to describe it is to compare it to cruise control Cruise Control: Usually you set a speed, and the car accelerates or maintains that speed (some advanced systems will also apply the brakes if the speed is considerabley over that of the speed set or if an object interacts with the radar some cars have fitted). One the cruise speed is set you can remove your feet from the pedals (or normally cover the brake, as you can adjust acceleration/speed with cruise stalk). If you brake or accelerate (hard) the system cancels automatically, and you have to set it again to enable it. How the Aygo's Speed limiter works: You set a speed (lowest is 20mph) or if your already moving above 20mph whatever your current speed is, again you can adjust the speed on the stalk afterwards. Whatever speed you set the car will not accelerate past in normal throttle control, but you must keep your foot on the throttle to maintain that speed. Now you can drive however you like the limited will stay set until you manually cancel it (so you can brake or accelerate and if you set it to 30mph, as soon as you hit 30mph the revs will die and the engine will only do as much work as is required to maintain that speed). There are a couple of extra bits of info: If you set the limiter and then depress the throttle hard(you can feel a slight click in the pedal) then you can continue accelerating beyond the limited speed, but the limiter will remain set for a further 30 seconds or so, so if your speed drops once more then your back on the limiter. The other thing is if you are going down hill and have your foot on the accelerator but aren't accelerating aggressively the digits on the dial will flash and it will beep to alert you that your exceeding your limited speed. tl;dr: Cruise control doesn't require you to keep your foot on the gas, speed limiter does, cruise control cancels if you hit the brakes, speed limiter doesn't It works great around town, where your in a 30mph zone for ages but your stopping at traffic lights and roundabouts all the time, as it removes the need to look at the speedo and you can concentrate more on the suicidal pedestrians. It also works quite well on the motorway too as the wind and road resistance is enough to !Removed! the car with small downwards adjustments and it just accelerates normally with upwards adjustments. The only issue I have with it is that you have to keep your feet on the pedals, which after an extended journey might leave them feeling a little numb (a problem you wouldn't have with cruise control) Hope that helps

  17. My sad tales both include the washing machine! Had a Samsung Galaxy in my overalls pocket and put my overalls in the machine. When done, I hung them up in the kitchen above the cooking range to dry. Couple of hours later, I heard a quiet beep beep, and couldn't work out where the sound came from, so walked away. Ten minutes later, beep beep again. Then I realised what I'd done! Covers off, battery out, electronics out and left to dry. Two days later, I reassembled and powered it up. I called it from the land line and it rang, but couldn't answer or do anything because the screen was pure bright white. All was fine, but the screen had lost all its pixels down the drain. 🤣 I bought a secondhand iPhone 5c ................ and six months later, guess what? Yes, I washed it! This time, it was totally dead, so I bought another 5c ............... a year later and it's still not yet washed, but it NEVER goes in my overalls pocket! Mick.
