  1. today i found away to change the horn on a facelift mk2 auris without removing the bumper since the grill doesn't seem to be removed easily. 1) i removed all clips holding the plastic panel between the grill and bonnet locking plate 2) turned the panel through 90 degrees to gain access behind the grill 3) removed original horn. 4) fitted new horns see photos below i hope this may help others

  3. hi Bernard could you send us some pictures, especially interested to see how much it gets in the way of the handbrake?

  4. I vaguely seem to remember that car, again a shame that they didn't make a roadgoing 3 litre version, it looks Bentley-ish.

  5. Wanted to report back on where we got to. We went for that Travall dog guard in the end. They have some really good reviews. The website is very specific about your car selection and the units I believe are all custom sized so you need to pick the correct model/year/etc otherwise the guard won’t fit. https://www.travall.co.uk/ Just fitted the bugger and once you figure out the couple of pieces you need to assemble, it’s a good solid unit. The back seats are fine with no restrictions and the parcel shelf thingy fits too (hurrah). Its not cheap - £140 plus £5 postage but it looks good, it’s pretty solid and there’s no drilling - not driven the car since it’s been fitted so will report back any issues - Hope this helps

  7. Three of the Rover gas turbine cars are housed at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, and are usually on display. The last time I was there, Toyota had their Toyota Carina E in the workshop on the ground floor of the collections hall, which they label 'number 1'.

  8. It isn't. The engine is designed to take the high RPMs and the ECU won't let you do anything to damage it. There shouldn't be many times when you feel it's necessary but if the moment arises give it some welly. I also don't understand the criticism of the infotainment system. It's better than the others I've seen and the only fault I've found with it is pretty trivial (random shuffle doesn't seem to work properly). The satnav does the job reasonably well. What is it you don't like about it?

  9. Have you tried Toyota dealers? I would have thought the manager or head of a dept would have one, at least one in the dealership, or at least one in a dealership in Essex. Surely a customer is not expected to pay £28k for a car they never test driven.

  10. I switch to the digital speedo and set the centre display to media (dab radio in my case). Much less fussy.

  11. Couple weeks ago I just done a journey of about 15 miles, engine nice and warm, parked up, bit of shopping for max 20 minutes then started journey home. I started off noticing I was automatically on EV mode, battery had a very good number of bars showing. I was following a L driver, so progress was fairly slow, the road was flat, but managed to get to 30mph for a good part of what was to follow. I noticed the mpg for the journey was 199.9mpg, the max it would show. Before the engine kicked in I had travelled 1.2 miles and still showing 199.9 mpg. Obviously totally unrepresentative of reality, which shows figures must be truly representative of the journeys taken over a reasonable amount of time/distance. Another time, again with a fully warm engine, I drove 50 miles of A roads and did 96.5 mpg. A fair distance is 50 miles, but again I don’t expect to see 90.5 mpg on every journey...... conditions were very good that day, a very warm summers day, the engine was warm before I started that 50 mile journey. During the summer I can regularly achieve high 70’s/low 80’s mpg on most journeys. This winter, especially on very cold days the mpg can be mid to high 60’s and low 70’s, it’s that much difference between summer and winter.
