  2. The government has ruled out offering a scrappage scheme to boost new car sales in the UK. https://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/hopes-new-car-sales-incentives-quashed-government-says-no-plans-scrappage-scheme/196550

  3. Sounds as though it is the Toyota Plus warranty for Approved used cars. Servicing during the warranty will need to be done by a Toyota dealer, not necessarily the selling dealer. See the following for benefits: https://usedcars.toyota.co.uk/en/program_benefits

  4. Personally I'm glad to hear that there will be no government scrappage scheme this time. The last one led to a lot of otherwise perfectly good cars being scrapped for no other reason than a government handout. It started off being about reducing pollution, but increasingly became just a subsidy to the motor industry. The country is now in even more debt than it was last time and really cannot afford to throw money around. Honda are already leaving the UK and Nissan keep threatening to leave so, to put it bluntly, I think sod 'em!

  5. Had a brief play with my stereo. With key in accessory mode, press and hold the answerphone button on the steering wheel, until the word 'phone' shows on the display. The turn the 'tune-file' to go to 'system'. Press the 'tune-file' control to enter new menu. There are a few functions not even covered by the owners handbook, so you need to find out what they do. If you press the 'tune-file' to access a particular function, you get confirm, or with a twist of 'tune-file' cancel to go back. I think you can reset the radio properly, but as I said, you need to explore a bit. I found 'guide voice volume' in the menu. I assume this is for the voice calls and if using phone SAT-NAV via Bluetooth voice. The Owners handbook hardly covers much!

  6. You should see the video now. It does cure from that in 5-60minutes of time but is still anoying. Nothing responds when it goes to that mode, but you can listen to cd with the latest volume you have chosen 😄 I also has been quite active on your great tutorial. I do have xcarlink usb reader connected, but there is no effect if I unplug it.

  7. Depending where the car is parked, use either a trickle charger if power is accessible (ie. parked in a garage), or a solar charger, as per the subject of this topic.

  8. I thought about this issue as well, an obvious solution would be to tell a neighbor you trust or a good friend to start the car up for 20 - 30 minutes for the battery to stay charged up.

  10. Quite frankly. after long journey with toyota since 2000s (2 Celica's, GT86, 3xRav4), its good to know that i was miss-lead when buying a car and non longer priority. Having spent serval years in IT management ( managing embedded projects too) I cannot see how you able to deliver new cars with AA and CarPlay and not retrofit old ones. Toyota need to be honest and not blame covid.

  11. Is buying a brand new car green though? It may pollute less but the pollution in manufacturing and shipping a new car is never taken into account in its official pollution figures. I bought a 5 year old Toyota Hybrid, and scrapped a diesel Lexus IS220D. My 23 year old Volvo 940 still drives great and has paid its pollution over and over again as lived for 23 years so far and not been scrapped at 10-12 years old. I think keep your cars driving for as long as possible. James.

  12. The BMW N47 does seem to be a particularly troublesome engine. In general though petrol engines are more reliable than modern diesels - largely because diesels are more complex.

  13. Surely it should be 'don't touch a BMW', as that is where this troublesome engine originated from? Our 2012 Avensis with the earlier Toyota-designed 2.0 diesel engine has been faultless. I wouldn't touch anything with a BMW engine in it either!

  14. Thanks that's part of the plan lol, I've started to get out and walk more, as well as watching what I eat. I'm a fairly big bloke at just under 6 ft, but since I gave up cycling daily I've put on over 13kg in 2 years 😞 (although taking the sub out counter acts that lol), I stopped doing my cycling due to needing an operation on my stomach a couple of years ago, and it's only getting worse. My latest video which I've just made live was filmed some 10-12 weeks ago, when I was at my heaviest. But my intentions are to go faster, so I have a purpose and medical reason to sort it all out 😄

  21. My big question is why bother? I drove almost 140.000km on my Corolla Verso and had 0 punctures, meaning that I've carried just an extra unuseful load for that long distance... Before that, my Almera 1.5 that I drove for 90.000km before the family outgrown it, had 1 puncture when I hit a pothole to avoid a collision with a truck on a very narrow road. But it was a slow puncture on the side so I'd get way with the TRK till I visit the nearest shop. My wife Yaris 1.0 got one puncture in over 88.000km (maybe hitting hard on a sidewalk, I'm not sure) but again she would probably get away with the TRK. And on her previous Micra 1.0, our first car, I don't remember to have a single puncture. Summing up that's 2 punctures in over 400.000km and counting... And on both occasions a TRK would do the trick. Unless one live on a desert area, we really don't need more than a TRK. The TS comes with the space and no foam pad at all, just a bag with some velcro to stay in place. I like to have that space free to fill when I need (vacation with five people and a dog is an opportunity to tes our capacity to puzzle, no matter how big is the car trunk). Be cool and enjoy the space saver and lightweight TRK.
