  1. I’ve had my hybrid just over a month now. I travel about 20 miles a day to work and back throughout the week. I’ve had the heater turned up, heated seats on and I keep the aircon on with the dual climate control. im getting around 48mpg on average. I notice that on longer journeys the mpg creeps up as it seems the battery reaches prime temp. great cars, would recommend.

  2. Iv had my 2.0 HB for nearly 2 weeks now just put my first lot of petrol in and got 44mpg. I’m happy with that though, Iv done a lot of short journeys, my previous car was a 2.0petrol and that at best could get 28mpg doing my commute and Iv done a lot of city driving where I’d be lucky to touch 20mpg so this is a revelation for me. On my city trips I can get 50-70mpg for a trip on the my T app without to much bother. I’m sure as I get used to the car I could improve this a bit but I’m happy with it as is plus mine is the GR sport so has bigger tyres which impact it too

  3. having read the revues, we went for the 2lt , delighted with our choice it takes the long inclines on the m62 with ease, and has enough grunt for overtaking on country roads. i am happy with the mpg having returned from 20+ years of diesels, the car is perky, comfy and handles great , yes i am heavy footed always called a mad ***** but at 71 years old who the "f..." cares, buy the 2lr and enjoy the car about town or on the motorway, to hell with the price of fuel the price goes up / the price comes down, buy what your heart tells you.

  4. Hi to you all My name is Allan and I live in Bourne, I am absolutely in love with my mk3, I've had so many cars ranging from cortina's to s class Mercs, Fiat x19 to Porsche, but by far the my 2 is the best bang 4 bucks I've ever had. I decided this summer to buy and fully strip down a 1zz engine, now I'm at that point I've gone full bore and brought all the micrometres, dial gauges to test the condition, although I was slightly out of my depth I'm learning so much about refurbishing and I'm hoping to share and if needed receive knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to read. Allan

  5. Tbh I’m more interested in being comfortable than trying to get a few extra mpg. id rather be in a toasty car with a warm backside than save myself a couple of £ per month.

  6. As long as you have original Yuasa HJ-S34B20R , nothing to worry about in 6-7 years. Just do not park the car for more than 1 month without removing A/C CUT on the Fuse-box. This is easier than unplugging negative terminal on the battery and we do not loose the memory on the radio. A/C CUT will disable remote system, so you have to use key to open the door later. There is never ever need of any battery maintainer under normal condition or if we drive the car at least once a week for 10 miles or more.

  7. My BiL had a Jaguar with stop start. He didn't use it. I toyed with stop start 40 odd years ago. On setting off I had 3 stops before reaching the main road. A cold engine and it tended to stop at the moment you were about to go.

  8. First of all, you will never get 1050 km. from a full tank of petrol. My car was also very optimistic in the beginning. You won't get more than 800 km., maybe just 700 km. in the winter season. When the calculated range hits "0", you can fill up 38,5 liters. Total fuel capacity is 43 liters, but I've never filled up with more than 40 liters, no matter how far I've stretched the last drops beyond the "0" range mark. Your engine is brand new and super tight every where, it takes a while for everything to loosen up. Take the car out for a long drive 200-300 km. or longer, relax, set the cruise control, and just let the car and engine get broken in.

  10. Sorry but I've not understood exactly your post. Are you saying that there are 2 USB ports on multimedia system but only one is connected ? In any case if you connect an USB hub to USB port you can connect two mass memory devices. I've successfully connected two usb keys with a not powered hub and they are shown as USB1 and USB2. Obviously you can play music from a device a time. The double logical USB becomes unavailable if you connect a smartphone with AA because it takes the control of USB interface. I was wondering if there's a second not cabled physical USB port so you can have both AA and USB multimedia.

  11. Well I'm no salesman, but if I was ,the very least that I would do would be to learn a bit about approaching people and a lot about the product/car that I was trying to sell. Instead of thinking of commission, selling paint and upholstery "protection" and gap insurance, high interest loans ,and all the other nonsense that current car salesmen are indoctrinated with. The most soul destroying tactic I think is the clueless junior salesman who when given an offer for the car disappears to "ask the sales manager if they can do anything " and leave you waiting while pratting about on the internet, giggling about last night's sales meeting/drinks party, and having a leisurely coffee. Yes this happens, I caught them at it after enough waiting and walked into the office to cancel my offer and let them know I was leaving, more courtesy than they showed to me. The other tactic that immediately turns me in the direction of away is having a look round on the lot, and the first words are "what's your monthly budget ?" Not which car I like, not an introduction, not a friendly hello , no idea if I require finance or cash buyer, just the hackneyed old nonsense that suits thier agenda rather than the buyer that keeps them in a job. Having said that, I have encountered the other kind who know what they are selling, the price and the specs and service history and previous use of the car. These get my custom,of course when I am not buying privately, when a whole lot of other criteria apply.

  12. That's great to hear Ernie. Definitely reassuring on both the range and grip front. I went a little too fast around a mini roundabout this AM when it was icy and only very slight slip which was immediately corrected by the AWD. Nice.

  13. I agree Nick I’m still getting high 40’s around the town etc. with preconditioning, then heating and lights. I’m also impressed so far with the OEM tyres at the low temperatures. Usually I immediately notice that they are hard as the temperature drops and you feel the difference in the suspension as it hits pot holes. This morning it was just freezing with an air temperature of 1oC and the tyres felt fine, the car handled very well on the icy roads.

  14. Mate and pal, or rather the equivalent, would never fly here in France. It just wouldn't happen. The language is naturally more formal, and you just can't start speaking "informally" to people in a professional situation.

  19. Mate and Pal is too informal for me. If a sales person introduced him her self like “Good morning, my name is John, can I help you today”, I would ok in replying “yes please, my name is Joe and I am interested in…”. I don’t stand out for formalities, I like a handshake, a nice smile and a friendly greeting. Then I take it from there.

  20. If the cooling system temp is up to 85 deg I would say the thermostat is ok as that’s the temp that they start to open and are fully open by 88 deg was the top hose hot after you took it for a drive. I would change the thermostat anyway for what it costs I also know that some diesel cars take ages for the heater to blow hot air I had a golf 1.9 tdi and that only blew Luke warm air after approx 3 miles I put bacofoil on the bottom part of the rad during the winter that helped other than that you will have to look else where such as a system flush or check for an air lock good luck 👍

  21. IIRC they are Hirose GT (gt17 ?) hybrid connectors you can get a cable that fits the touch2 the ones on eBay aren't always wired correctly QNX is secure, it runs Lua hardware white list what is very limited - I went through 4, usb network adapter before I got one that had the correct chipset - it's been a year or so but IIRC the USB allows 1 client on its host what is limited by Lua descriptors I did pen test the system, only finding 2 weak points, I was unable to keep the port(s) open long enough to probe them fully - there was very little interest, so I didn't take it any further

  22. A service guy at Mr T got as far as I did and gave up trying to go the proscribed way. Instead, he used a USB that was pre-loaded with the latest software and maps and I'm now sorted. We think the software on my car was so old that it did not support the current procedure to download new maps. Installing new software is, I was told, a dealer-only job so something to get checked when the car is in for a service. The end?

  23. I think you’d need to look at the spec how they rate the battery, temperature, general load conditions, etc., it’s about 5% lower than the rating you’ve indicated then it does not sound too bad.

  24. I hope they are right, possibly wishful thinking by Autocar that Toyota will want a BEV which qualifies for the Government Grant, but I’ve not seen anything which makes the bZ4X look basic. If it comes with a range of 280 miles for under £34,500 I’d say it’s looking like very competitive.

  26. The best “stop/start” is as fitted to a Toyota hybrid. Yes I know it’s not a stop/start as we been talking about, but, unless the computer system is demanding the engines is in run cycle, every time I come stationary the engine is not running, followed by when I put my foot on the accelerator pedal the car moves. Big fuel saver for sure.

  27. This video https://youtu.be/wk0aHhWV5fk?t=450 shows how to remove the central panel. The audio is in Italian but I think it's sufficient to see the images. As you can see the USB connector is monted tho console with a pair of plastic clips.

  28. Not quite sure what you are saying. Red suggests the battery is not fully charged and is accepting power from the charger. Green indicates the battery is charged and the charger is in float mode just topping up as needed. Your car, a 2.0, with the battery in the boot, will have an AGM battery. A smart charger will work with that. What charger do you have?

  29. Did brake fluid flash on my own cars for the 1st time last year after watching plenty of videos on YouTube and making my own bleed system. All went successfully. I have been DIY services on my Auris and it still running well with no issues. I use quality parts.

  30. Here's a cut out from service manual that someone sent me long time ago, should be relevant. Since you do it yourself, i'd advise to keep oil changes at 6k miles, it wont cost you much, and filter can be changed every other time, filter has lifespan of 20k miles.

  34. Because the car decides when and how to use the battery to help the petrol engine, it might not make sense to us as drivers going uphill only on engine power with almost a full battery but the car knows what’s the best for the battery health and the efficiency. Floor it and you may get an instant battery help but that also might be just for a short moment and then again continue on petrol alone, all that happens to me everyday and I am used to it now. Nothing strange at least I can confirm it, I had a few hybrids and they all do it the same. There is also another exactly opposite event when the car is cold and you are accelerating the ice is running at constant rpm while the e motors are propelling the car and when that happens it gives driver some sort of feeling that you are driving an ev with range extender 👍

  37. Actually these are horrible and I hope they will stop making them. If a car equipped with that sort of lights drives behind you on a dark country lane you will notice how bad they are for you, they are ultra distracting and cause head ache plus blindness. I had few cases like that and it took me a bit to realise what was the reason for that thing happening but I sort the puzzle after a couple of more encounters. Don’t like those and the fog lights that turn ON on every turn.

  38. Thanks all for the advice, I guess we don't need a fast charger, but it might be useful for topping up if we (say) go out in the morning and want to top up for a trip out later that day. It looks like the chargers are not too expensive to buy, I'll start with a mains plug and see how we get on.

  39. During July this year we managed to get a week away in England, each way was 205 mile. For the whole week, including those miles, the car did 727 miles and the trip reading was 80.4 mpg. So that was motorways, A roads, B roads and any other road, like passing through town centres etc. 80.4mpg over 727 miles… pretty good that. That was in my Gen4 Prius. Over 35049 miles travelled in it nearly 5 year life (as of July) the car has averaged 72mpg, that’s over every mile it has travelled. You can’t beat real life figures.

  40. It's funny as I'm the total opposite - I really hate being addressed in an overly formal way, esp. as the way half the staff in my dealer say 'sir' comes across as really sarcastic or condescending. I suppose that is part of the art of being a good sales person, gauging your clientele...

  41. I think it has a 71kW battery so with a bit of charge tapering and temperature variations a the standard 7kW home charger will take probably over 12 hours for a full charge. If you could get a suitable 11kW home charger that would significantly reduce the charge time. We still need a much better charger infrastructure to suport the BEV cars that will come over the next few years. Not only the quantity of chargers but accessability without dozens of accounts and the reliabilty to have them in service. Some of the reviews I've seen suggest that there are huge numbers of chargers that are out of service at any one time, fail to charge or you're unable to access.

  42. We're getting used to high mpg, and seems to forget how it was 10-20 years ago. My 2002 1.gen Yaris 1.3 was rated to 16,7 km/l (47 mpg) and with very gentle driving it was'nt impossible. Normal comsumpsion was 14 km/l (39 mpg). In 2004 I got a Corolla 1.6. Bigger, faster, more powerfull - and thirsty. Extremly low gears, so 100 km/h was 3000 rpm. Fast holiday driving through Germany was 4.500 rpm. all the way, and comsumpsion not higher than 9 km/l (25 mpg) Normal every day driving was 13 km/l (36 mpg) The funny thing is, back then, I did'nt see it a very high comsumption. Some times I felt it was pretty good (remembering the older cars from the 90's beeing much worse)

  43. Possibly easier than explaining to their loved ones why they went through your windscreen. Or indeed easier than explaining to your loved ones why you were flattened when your passengers went through the windscreen. To be fair I can understand the request if the alarms are being triggered by luggage as mine have been once or twice but seat belts exist for a reason and I refuse to move the vehicle until everyone is wearing theirs.

  44. Only the very latest Aygos, June 2021 or later have stop/start. The JBL edition will not have it and as you have a speaker in the boot that replaces the spare wheel, enjoy your can of gunk if you get a puncture.
