The diesel will be nicer to drive and have way better mpg but is a risky buy with all these cursed ULEZ popping up, but the biggest nail in the coffin is it's a modern diesel so will have a DPF and probably a DMF too - The two things that flipped diesel from being the most reliable type of engine to the least. I'm a big diesel fan but wouldn't touch a modern one. The problem with the 1NR-FE burning oil was mostly a Mk2 problem, specifically early ones - Past 2011/12 I think the problem had been pretty much sorted so will be fine in the Mk3.

  5. I would never touch a turbo-petrol - Turbo diesels are still very reliable and long-lived, but turbo petrols much less so, unless they're very lightly turbocharged. They tend to run rich to stop knock, but as you say that causes carbon buildup and also emissions and wastes a lot of fuel. On top of that, the turbos themselves are much more likely to fail early because petrol exhaust is so much hotter than diesel and they just get cooked. The thing is with petrol, you have to make major compromises to avoid knock, but since diesel is completely immune to knock, turbos are just much better suited as you can just slap one on with no major downsides. That's one nice thing about the hybrid - It's like having a turbo without the downsides (Albeit like a turboboost in a computer game, that runs down when you hammer it, and then you have to wait for it to charge back up before you can use it again )

I would not touch a 10+ year old diesels with more and more ulez's coming, also 2010 onwards they are all DPF cars that have their own issues, lots of town driving or short trips forget it, you need to be doing 15k miles a year 1.33 it's mainly mk2's that suffer oil burning most have been fixed, they only burn oil due to the lack of maintenance one of the reasons Denso/Toyota changed the plug heat range Β£4k will not get you much in this current market

  8. I've had a '14, 1.33 petrol for nine years and (touch wood) it's never drunk a bit (I do give it some beans now and then). Do you know it'll do an indicated 80MPH in 3rd before it hits the rev limiter?

  9. I'd prefer the diesel but as they are being victimised by the UK's clown show currently performing in Westminster Palace, the petrol version would probably be a little better to have. Around town, petrol. Diesels tend to need some motorway miles to keep them running well and cleanly.

  10. Yes Tesla have put the controls to everything on the central display. If you want to open the glovebox even that has to be done by accessing the right menu on the screen - how ridiculous is that.

Not only that, but they could use AI to decide what sort of driver you are, and adjust your insurance premium, your mileage allowance, or even when and where you can drive, and with what type of car, or adjust it's maximum power output. Oh, and don't forget the usual selling of your data, to assess you for targeting with ads. Paranoid, possibly, but then again, they are actually out to get me!

  12. Hello everyone. After 20 years of Skoda ownership, we have ordered a Toyota Corolla Touring for delivery in October. We've had six Skodas, but our current Octavia Hybrid has had several infuriating software issues and we would not be confident keeping it neyond the three-year warranty period. They are no longer making it anyway, so although the software problems should have been fixed by now, none of their other models are suitable for us. So after reviewing all the hybrids on the market, three things attracted us to Toyota. Most importantly, the boot lip on the Corolla Touring is low enough for our greyhound to get in and out of the boot easily, All the other rather boxy PHEVS (Peugeot, Citroen etc) have high bootlips. Secondly, the Toyota is high-up in the Which? magazine reliability surveys and finally the 10 year/15 year warranty for the car/battery was the clincher. Also the real-world mpg according to Honest John at 53mpg is 97% of the WLTP figure, so as we only do about 5000 miles a year, the reduction from 80mpg for our Octavia is not an issue. I'm looking forward to reading posts on the forum to familiarise me with the car.

  13. Heavy electric cars could be banned from old multi-storey car parks, engineers have warned. The Institution of Structural Engineers has said that weight limits should be imposed on older buildings to cope with the increasingly heavy Ev's following a review. Chris Whapples, a fellow and overseeing consultant for the review, said: β€œI think a lot of old owners will opt for imposing a weight limit rather than paying for strengthening measures.” New electric vehicles are much heavier than the average petrol or diesel car and EV batteries account for much of this, usually weighing around 500kg. They typically make the car much heavier than the ones manufactured in the 1960s and 1970s, when many car parks were built. There are 6,000 multi-storey car parks across the UK, and the review warned that the unloved structures are most susceptible to buckling under the added weight.

  14. Our 2015 1.33 doesn’t burn a drop - despite my wife’s lack of mechanical sympathy. It only does 4,000 miles a year and I service it with good quality oils. now on 42k miles

Short term they could alocate the ground floor for EV's only, in the longer term without structural support on the upper floors, weighbridges installed on entry and alocated bays on upper levels to distribute the weight. Obviously this is probably decades away before it becomes an issue so by then they would have figured it out as they always do when money is involvedesigned still interesting.

P0093 doesn't mean there is an external fuel leak the code comes on when the fuel pressure after the high pressure pump drops significantly when detected by the common rail the most likely cause and a known issue is failure of one or more injectors which have stuck open causing the sudden drop in fuel pressure and massive over fuelling causing the rattle and smoke. The car needs connecting to a suitable diagnostic machine and the injector operation checked with defective injectors being replaced.

The metal tags are a legacy item and no longer required, they have not been required for 10+ years, should you require a key you contact your local dealer they order a "cut" key via Toyota's parts ordering system, in the EU the order is passed to a Company called Conrad who cut the key and ship it to your dealer at no time does the dealer or parts supply see the key number only the Conrad employee see's the key number but not the cars details ensuring the process is anonymous and secure .

  21. Yeah, it's the thing that puts me off them the most. The funny thing is it's a cost saving measure as it cuts down the wiring loom significantly, making assembly much easier, but people think it's premium so they get away with charging more!

  23. Thanks for the info peeps. I live in the countryside so ULEZ isn't an issue at the moment, although I'm sure it will be soon. Might take my chances on a petrol. As long as I find one that doesn't already burn oil I have no problem changing the oil regularly and keeping it running well. With the CAT being rumoured to hide blue smoke well, I'm not sure how I'd be able to tell if a car IS burning oil until I bought and took a peek at the spark plugs... Should I be looking for service history showing oil changes every 10k / year? Not sure what the interval is on these cars.

  26. This reset / setting can be accessed by pushing arrow down on the left side of the steering wheel until you go into the 'vehicle settings' part (use OK button)... The manual tells me it's called TPWS at Toyota. When you access this setting, go to 'setting pressure', then press ok until the warning light for TPWS blinks 3 times...   27. Some Toyota models are being supplied with only one key due to chip shortages, etc - not only in the US where you are, but also in Europe and the UK, where Toyota Owners Club is based. Get back in touch with your dealer - not just by e-mail, phone - and request they progress the issue.

  30. Might not even become a problem, as the lack of working chargers might mean most EVs are stranded by the side of the road or queuing for chargers, or they just add so many fines and taxes per mile that nobody can afford to drive! ... It's a good thing my job isn't a motivational speaker...

  32. Try tuning up or down a notch on your radio. My transmitter is easy to mis-tune with an accidental button press. Also, I can get a bit of interference in some areas from a nearby (frequency) radio station which doesn't affect me near home or another BT transmitter as someone drives by, so maybe a retune to another empty area of the FM radio band can help you. Another source of static has been the rear screen heater, that was on a car using the heater element as the radio aeriel. That may have been my Avensis.

  35. 134 bhp - different engine (balance shaft) (M15A-FKS, Di engine) and gearbox (larger motor), NiMh are still in use The Yaris and cross is 118 bhp combined (90 hp from the M15-FXE MPi)

  37. I did with silicone wd-40 yellow cap and helped immediately. I use this for all rubber seals including boot and bonnet twice a year and I never had any issues, all nice a smooth. Noticed when washed the car with snow foam I recommended earlier also the side mirrors become smooth and quiet, not only shiny. πŸ‘Œ

  39. Corn as the main source of ethanol in northern continent is more useful as food source for growing chicken and cows. Just like bio diesel using Rapeseed,sunflower, soy, and corn oil is silly too. Palm oil produces 5x more yield per hectar than Rapeseed but also the main contribution in tropical forest deforestation. Chicken is probably the best protein per kW energy and food. Better than Vegans food that are often wasted because no one eat them. In my opinion, ethanol in gasoline is just stupid. It is not better than pure gasoline for car, and not greener either if we include how much CO2 we produced in farming. The global fertiliser need petroleum stock. Back to the topic. E5 is still the best price/performance that often contain 3% or less ethanol but much lower price than no ethanol gasoline. It is all because of tax cut, not production cost.

  43. The drivers mirror on mine did this. I popped the painted plastic trim cover off the mirror and sprayed some silicone spray lube down inside on the large metal spring which the mirror rotates on, which stopped the noise immediately. If you're not confident in pulling the trim off leave it to a dealer as there's a trick in knowing how much force to apply to the plastic, and in which direction!

  44. Mike is right, cancel the order if possible. I suggest to negotiate with the dealership and see if they can give you Corolla TS instead. I will never ever buy Renault cars. The brand that bring Nissan reliability down to the ground with cut cost everywhere just to survive. Nissan was known for reliability, in par with Honda and Toyota until merged with Renault in 2000. Only the sport performance car division in Nissan is still great.

  46. Very good, really nice upgrades similar to Corolla. Gen 5 hybrid system, latest safety tech and the better instruments plus screen, honestly if me putting an order now or soon, I will definitely wait and order this over existing model., it’s well worth it. Anyone else who already own mk4 and x no point upgrading as this is basically same car with few little touches. πŸ‘

  48. Ah ok. Maybe it's not worth the expense. I'm just slightly annoyed that I'd overlooked that it's not included in the UK. I've watched so many reviews of the cars, but clearly most of them were European/Australian. It wasn't something I paid too much attention to on my test drive. I don't think I'd use it all that often, but it would have been nice for when I have to do a long drive down to Yorkshire πŸ˜•
