  1. Not really driven it anywhere yet to test it properly but it's more eager off the line than my 155hp Puma was so I'm very happy

  2. Picked mine up today. First ever Toyota so I have nothing to compare it to but it is very nice so far and more than enough power for what I need

  3. Hi, that sounds like a great adventure and interesting journey. As others said there is no worries about the car but you need to be more concerned about the birds. You need to make sure there is plenty of fresh food, water, fresh air and keep them away from direct sunlight or heat from the car heating system. Try to maintain room temperature inside the car. Do more frequent stops. You will need to think about having sun shades or something to make birds more comfortable and relaxed. I also have two budgies and had taken them twice on a short half an hour journeys, but nothing as so long for days. For the car, don’t worry. As long as is serviced and all fluids topped up , brakes and tyres are new you will be alright. Don’t push it too much, drive safe and sensible and don’t try to keep up with the rest of the drivers. Remember to have an extra bottle of engine oil, windscreen wash, and plenty of drinking water. Enjoy your travel. One day I will need to do exactly the same. 👌👍🇧🇬

  4. Exactly. Current mpg is only 18 but as it's only done 6 miles the figures are meaningless at the moment

  5. When I picked up my Yaris on Feb 1st the dealer said they couldn't get the mudflaps from Toyota and found the ones they could get from another supplier were not up to standard. So I said I would be happy for them to take the ones off my trade in. Problem solved 😌. Which they did. Happy days 👏

  6. That's one of the most infuriating things about Brexit - We've lost all the benefits but we're still operating within all the restrictions, so effectively we've ended up with the worst of both worlds!

  8. Once when looking for the Toyota engine plant in Deeside (they had just cut the first turf to build the factory) I went past a massive car park with only one car in the middle of it. I thought what's that? A little Fiesta with the sunroof open and a pair of legs out of the roof with a chap kneeling towards the female........anyway you can guess the rest Broad daylight too!! Once had a puncture ON the Thelwall viaduct, never been so scared in my life. A Police Range Rover pulled up a few hundred yards behind me with all lights going, I have never changed a wheel so fast in my life He didn't give me a hand mind 😂😂

  9. The size of the engine doesn't matter with travelling long distances, as long as you do it sensibly like you have been doing then you'll be fine.

  10. Looks a great colour combination, very envious that that combination isn't available on the Cross Premiere I'm just ordering - not a big fan of the Urban Khaki - suspect it will be like having an avocado bathroom suite in a few years time....bit disappointed you haven't managed to give us a tantalising grainy glimpse of the battery, for those of us still fretting about those matters 😉

  15. You made me chuckle! 🤭 He really rather stupidly tee'd that response up for you. Great to hear you got the new tyres on! Unless you had very different or very rubbish tyres on before, then you'll unlikely notice any dramatic differences. You will pick up some differences as you drive on various familiar roads and surfaces.

  16. Hi Eddie, your vehicle tax Direct Debit typically renews automatically when your current tax expires, assuming you remain the registered keeper and the vehicle has a valid MOT. This means you don't need to worry about renewing it manually. If the tax rate for your vehicle has increased, the Direct Debit will automatically be adjusted to reflect the new amount. You won't receive a separate notification about this. To change your payment frequency from automatic renewal to a one off payment, you won't receive a specific form from the DVLA. You'll need to manage this directly through your chosen payment method usually your bank or via the DVLA website https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-direct-debit. There you can cancel the Direct Debit and make a one time payment.hope this helps.

  18. Sounds to me like something is messed up with either bearings or brake pads in the front. I would take it back to the shop who did the work. I doubt it's the rear but obviously I can't know for sure. It's a place to start the investigation at least.

  24. your not the first or last, I had to persuade my son how to fit one like this on his Fiesta. I always think, armed with tools such as a hacksaw or cordless grinder and I needed to get the thing off, how would I do it? and doing imaginary cuts through the steering wheel, it would still be extremely difficult as you can no longer slide the device around the wheel to release it through the cuts you made further round where you had access to cut.

  25. So when I bought my Elite Pro I didn’t read the instructions… key goes in, steering is difficult, job done ! Or so I thought… How ive been [lazily] fitting my Elite Pro: How I will do it now after monitoring this thread: Thanks to this forum I’ve learnt how to do it properly. Many thanks @Rigsby ! 😁 I always thought it was far too big and loose to be ‘recommended’, now I’m using it properly it’s the perfect fit ! 💪🏻 User error 😂

  26. And who knows where they'd fly 😉 (sorry) The car will probably be the least of your worries. If it has done 230,000 km by now, doing another 2000 km will unlikely be a problem. Unless there is already a problem with the cooling system, it will not overheat. The car will go for as along as there is fuel in it. The most important factor is that you are well rested and that the birds are calm. As Bob said, take it easy and take time for some impromptu sightseeing. It will be an adventure in itself. Best of luck and safe travels!

  27. Hah, yeah, the partsman at Jemca was very friendly and helpful. But as far as Halfords/National Tyres, I cancelled the wheel alignment booking. I must have called them about ten times since Friday and they never answered the phone. Well they did a couple of times, then immediately put me on hold and then never came back to me. I went into the branch today (different centre from the one that put my tyres on) to complain. I told them how appalling it is that I'd not been able to speak to anyone there after many attempts. He said "well we've got 4 phone lines sir" in a slightly condescensing way, and I said "well why don't you use them then?" I cancelled the booking and told him I'm getting it done today somewhere else. So he refunded me. Glad I did as it only cost me £40 at a small independent tyres and alignment garage instead of £45 with Halfords.

  28. Hi Asen,It sounds like you've got a good plan for your road journey.Your Aygo's high mileage with consistent maintenance is very good, and your approach with a full service and breakdown cover shows you're well prepared. 150,000 miles with regular maintenance suggests a pretty dependable Aygo. Replacing tyes and brakes beforehand is wise, and a full service will catch any potential issues. European breakdown cover ensures help in case of emergencies. Breaking up the trip with rest stops helps prevent fatigue and overheating for you and your car. While the distance and engine size are valid concerns, Consider 200-250 mile days instead of 300 for a less stressful drive. The Aygo has limited luggage space, so prioritise essentials for you and the parrots.Your car's history indicates it's capable, and you've taken steps to ensure a smooth trip.Pack water, snacks, a first aid kit, and a flashlight for unexpected situations. Research rest stops with amenities suitable for your parrots.Road journeys are interesting,so relax and take in the sights along the way. Remember, unexpected things can happen, but breakdown cover provides a safety net. Pay attention to your car if it struggles or makes unusual noises, get it checked. With preparation and attentiveness, you and your parrots will have a safe and memorable trip. Hope this helps.

  31. Good afternoon, everyone! My name is Asen and I own a 2015 Toyota Aygo, which recently just hit 150k miles. I have had it from almost brand new and for 6 years, and have used it for work mainly, doing 80-100 mile trips on a daily basis. It has never ever been to the garage for anything else than tyres, breaks, pads and servicing, not even once. Never had any advisories on MOT or services either, it has just been absolutely rock solid. I am relocating to my home country soon and I have already sent my luggage, but I need to travel by road, because i have a couple of parrots and flying them is extortionately expensive, so i intend to go with my beloved car. It will be just me and my birds, so will not be loaded or heavy, but I am a bit concerned about the distance, age and mileage. I have just replaced all tyres and brakes. I will fully service it before I go and get European breakdown cover. I will try to get the best one there is out there, so i am covered properly in the event of breakdowns. I intend to drive around 300-400 miles, before i take a couple of hours break, to try to prevent overheating, with 5-6 hours of sleep during the night, meaning that I should get there in around 3 days. I would really like to hear your opinion about my plan and I would like you to be honest about it. People around me have been telling me that the car would never make it, because the engine is too small and the distance is big, but I would like to think that I know my car better than them. I know that you can not predict anything like this, but do you think that I am being naive or stupid, as I have been called by some of them? Looking forward to hear your opinions and thank you in advance.

  32. Ahbut, I get my cornflakes and sultana bran from Tesco, (or Asda if I have a trip over the border). Being less than half the price of Kellogs, I am working on the theory that there is less cost inflating ingredients, including sugar. I might be wrong, but at my age, I ain't really bovvered. 🙂

  36. Assuming the route is relatively flat and there aren't loads of up-hill parts, the car should do it fairly easily. I'm more worried about you!! After long journeys my lower back and shoulders are usually aching like heck, and motorways are *really* boring to be on for a long time. It's much nicer when there's someone else in the car (Esp. if they can also drive ) Just do all the usual checks - tyre pressures, fluid levels etc; Consider bringing bottles of oil, coolant and washer fluid or making a note of places where you can find such things en route.

  37. Lol. The intention might have been to improve safety but I hope it's an improvement on the (thankfully optional) version fitted to my '19 Corolla. It usually positions the car on the outside of the lane (makes me wonder if it's not been configured for right hand drive). It often starts drifting the car across the lane only to correct itself later. Sometimes it's just 'twitchy' not helped by my instinctive attempt to hold it steady. It makes for a good workout for my arms but does nothing to enhance safety and certainly not comfort. It fights any attempt by me to change lanes or even just take a slip road for a fraction of a second and then just releases the wheel sometimes requiring me to back off to avoid oversteering. At best it detracts from the driving experience and at worst it borders on dangerous.

  39. Yes, not the latest specs, but good enough. I generally do 110 Nm on all cars. It's a good, middle-of-the-road setting. It's not reasonable though to expect people to have to buy a torque wrench just to double-check on the garage's work. But do ask what torque they tightened the wheels to. That they should at least be able to answer.
    2 points
  40. I would also check the wheel nuts for correct tightening torque. Are most Toyotas 103Nm? Should be in the handbook. A 100kg Gorilla might have been let loose on them with either an impact gun or 1m breaker bar!

  45. Hi Ansen, I mentioned shorter journeys for two reasons, pets can get very stressed especially if they are not used to long car journeys. It can also be tiring travelling on your own and unless you have a specific reason to get to your destination quickly why not stop off at a few interesting places that you can find on Google etc. I think you are concerned at the reliability of your Yaris but you have already proved how reliable it is by your daily 100 mile journeys. IMO the worst case sinario if you did break down, you have international breakdown cover so if it was required they could arrange for you to trailered to your home destination. I would take regular breaks stop off at a few interesting places and make it a pleasant and safe journey for you and your parrots. I would not worry about the car you have taken care of it so i am sure it will take care of you, And remember it is a Toyota.

  46. Thank you for the quick and extensive reply, your words certainly make me a lot more confident! Are you suggesting 200-250 mile days out of concern for me or the vehicle though? I am a pretty experienced driver and often drive long distances, so I am not worried about myself. I forgot to mention that i intend to cruise at around 60-65m/h, as i have noticed that it runs most smoothly at that speed, which i know will make my journey longer, but i think that it would protect the engine.

  47. Honestly any car that has 200k + miles is a high risk purchase. There is higher risk over 100k car major components to go bad and to bring unpleasant surprises and costly repairs. 7000 miles a year is kind of low to average use but if the car fail it will fail not as a result of your drives but as from the previous uses. Cars like that at cheap price can be a cracking buy for DIY ers and mechanics who can work on their cars and can source cheaper parts. I run an Auris hybrid myself, the car travels an average of 200 miles a day, it has over 270k miles and it is in pretty good shape, but I have the car from early years and low miles, I do all maintenance by myself too so it is very different story.

  48. Good one ☝️ Let us know how you find the new tyres. Also double check pressures tomorrow morning before driving off to make sure they are correctly set because no tyre filter ever do these right and every driver should check and adjust next day.

  50. Yes, in the debris zone. Mind you, there could be a real foul up with the danger zone a hundred feet or more back up the road. On the M5 there is a notice saying No Safety Barrier on the left side. Can't see the point really. PS, just had a flesh back. We were stuck on the M6 up north. Broad daylight and this bloke was giving her one on the crash barrier. I think they were from different cars even.
