  1. People didn't apply the good old ratchet lever and cars went downhill all on their own, that's what was wrong with them. Just like people went through windscreens in an accident until we invented seat belts, it's technology and things move on. The handbrake works seamlessly, I don't know what's not to like

  2. This post has progressed from a heated steering wheel post to who can tell the tallest tale🤣. That’s the fun of the forum 👏😊🤪

  3. Many thanks for all the replies. The reason I like to leave the handbrake/EPB off when in the garage, many moons ago (when I was younger and fitter) I had a 56 plate Skoda Fabia which was garaged for a fortnight. When I came to drive it, the nearside (only) rear wheel was seized solid, and no amount of rocking it in forward and reverse would free it. The nearside of the car was 3inches from the wall, so I ended up having to jack the car up on a trolley jack and pulling the car sideway to get at it. I did fix it (rear brake job), but I'm too old to be doing that sort of thing ever again, so just being cautious really. Don't get me wrong, I like the EPB on the YC, and the hold feature even more, but bear in mind this is my first ever electic brake and it is all new stuff to me. Thanks again folks. Cheers Trev.

  7. Slept, well not so much slept as tossing and turning and shivering in a hired fiat panda with fixed upright seats. Mid 80s on the way from Austria to Italy just when every Italian and his wife and his children and his cousins were setting off in the other direction for annual holidays. So every hotel,b&b, guesthouse, road house and ******* house was full to overflowing. Gf at the time was very easy going through, thankfully, still friends even now, she's the one with the Aygo. Made sure that I never got caught in the dolomites again I can tell you.

  8. That has just reminded me of being on a caravan site in the 80's. Bloke in the next caravan used to come back drunk and make a right row at gone midnight and wake us up. I have always been an early riser so for the rest of his holiday I got up at 7am while he was sleeping it off and threw bread on to the roof of his caravan. It was hilarious watching the seagulls descend and make a terrible row. We very nearly gave the game away though by laughing when he ranted on about the seagulls waking him up.

  9. I've got a baker boy hat which i wear when driving or out walking. Mind you this is much more to protect my head. My mate had a MGB roadster and when I was seventeen he asked if wanted to go to Spain in it. I said yes and from memory the journey was long and very tying. We spent one night in a Hotel in France and driving up the Pyrenees mountains and into spain was memorable. On the way back we drove to San tropez and it was so expensive we spent the night in the car close to the harbour yachts but the noise from the bells on top of the masts was so loud that it kept us up most of the night. I would do the journey again but in a car that didn't feel like it was 6 inches off the floor and would require a new spine when you got back.Mind you it was a nice car but out of my price range as a young apprentice.

  10. Wow, Chas, I totally forgot about the tartan rug, and the wicker picnic set. Always did want a nice little MG or Morgan sports car as an extra vehicle for leisure, but could never afford one. Wrong type of flat cap owner, you see! 😩
    4 points
  11. Absolutely nothing wrong with a flat cap but in a powerful sporting car like the yaris, it should be worn with the peak at the back......and don't forget the tartan rug on the back seat. 🤪

  12. Toyota named mine Vincent at the factory which proves how special it was. They even fitted a nameplate. This could make a lot of people jealous and I get that but you’re either a special customer or you’re not, just accept it 👍

  13. It’s not as easy as that. You can’t just switch when you are in a contractual agreement with a manufacturer and you can’t just switch on an alternative supplier, it needs to be planned. Furthermore, it isn’t a Jemca Toyota issue, it’s a Jemca issue, the dealer that sold the car. Typical FB nonsense where s disgruntled owner can’t get his own way and reacts by making it an official announcement when as always the case, the dealer cannot nor will not comment and remain professional. What we don’t know is what has gone on between them or the condition of the vehicle. A lot of people treat a vehicle as a tool and rub them up the curb, smoke, vape, trash, never clean them and they’ll expect to get what they’ve paid. We can’t see any of that and neither can the FB warriors. The dealer will offer what the car is worth after it’s been repaired. We know the procedure for changing a battery, they need it day 1 for charging and day 2 for testing and that’s why I say, for £70-80, just change it and save yourself some hassle. Personally, I completely ignore that so called FB announcement, if it’s a legitimate case, it’ll turn up on a more reliable platform and I applaud Jemca for their professionalism.

  14. Actually, the wife does have a grey tartan rug in her Yaris. I have a Black Watch tartan rug in the boot of my C-HR, for emergencies. Don’t have a tartan flask or nodding animal of any description, unless you count our furry four legged canine

  16. Not that one! I am thinking more of a cute dachshund type, dual purpose you see,if the door seals go you can lay the dog along the bottom of the door. But lordy, those tartan flasks with glass liners,if you were in the building trade in the 70s ,broke every 2 weeks on average. Building site in the middle of nowhere, and no hot drink in winter, brrrr. Of course later on in my career dahn sahff, I had a gaggia fitted in the company Volvo , and had espresso and americano on draught.

  18. The trouble with forums is that you would think this affects every car, I can tell you it doesn't, it mainly affects people doing very low mileage. I have a lady who comes in every single day to see us, then she goes to a garden centre locally and then home, probably does 10 mile a day at most. She has never had an issue, we have very many more customers like that. The issue is being addressed by Toyota, it maybe addressed by a service campaign, it won't be by recall as it is not a safety issue. I don't have any other specific information on the current situation

  20. Good grief you slept in an MGB?! It's amazing you didn't come out permanently L-shaped!! At least when I had to sleep in my Yaris the seats reclined!! (I still wouldn't recommend it, especially in a car park that is near the sea! Sweet mother the seagulls in the morning! I thought there was a riot going on!! )

  21. Congrats! I love this colour so much. When I was in Australia last year, I saw it on so many hybrids! Yaris MK3, the new Corolla and CHR were the main ones!

  22. It used to be legal requirement to apply the parking brake. This really is a lot of fuss over nothing. The parking brake motors are utterly reliable, very fast and seamless and make using them devoid of any thought, everything is done without thinking. Why unthink it???

  24. You don’t have to buy from the dealer, you can get it quite cheap on Amazon. If I could only get supermarket fuel I’d perhaps use this 2 or 3 times a year. In my mechanicing days, we had to deal with gummed up injectors quite a lot and decent additive would often clear them almost instantly.

  25. First impressions: Nippier than the Red Baron, most definitely. Suspension seems much more taught but that could be because it's new and there was only 4 miles on the clock so hasn't had chance to soften yet. I don't know if it's just me being subjective but I swear that the turning circle is tighter?! My beloved HUD is there and after what seemed to be disaster (Hybrid Assistant shut down with "unknown" in the space for the car model!) and much hasty transfer of debugging logs, the team at Hybrid Assistant quickly "fixed me" and that is up and running great! Happy days! Obviously, I've only driven it 20 miles back to home so check back here in a week or so and I'll try and do a much more objective revue directly comparing it with our dear departed Launch Edition (the Red Baron). So far, so many more dashboards to tinker with!! 🤣 I know it is not usual to show the reg number of a car but I just couldn't resist this as we managed to get a "kind of" status plate by accident when I saw it on the list and it fits me to a "T"!! 😇 (PS. ...and the "new24" is pretty appropriate too!!)

  26. Ugh this is just BS lazy reporting for sensationalist clickbait - It's just *another* uk.gov petition trying to get the speed limit increased, nothing special or new; The 'could', while technically true, has similar probability to me winning the national lottery (For context, I don't play the national lottery) I can play that game too - Just from the current active petitions: "UK could ban the sale of power tools!" "UK could ban the use of dogs!" "UK could legalize murder!" I could have been a great journalist if I didn't value my integrity

  31. You could use an ad-blocker, but you might need to just post more - I seem to recall the higher 'rank' you are the less adverts you get...? Subscribing to the club also gets rid of adverts (It's only £20/yr or £30/2yr and you get a Halfords discount card!) Also check your browser isn't subscribed to some notifications or has some rogue extension installed - I'm always disabling both of those things for people when they suddenly get loads of adverts (Thanks Google for implementing a system that allows adverts to bypass anti-virus and filtering systems and allow the most inappropriate adverts to be delivered to the end user!)

  32. Having driven through Turkey I can understand that. The only way to stop the engine was pull full choke to cut off the air. A thousand miles later we had to remove a load of redish flat stuff, like lentils, from the carburettor.

  34. My total disappointment from car dealerships and repair garages motivated me back in the days to take care of my cars by myself and I only visit dealers for recall works or to buy parts. Every time I visit and look at the workshop I see things that reassure me I had made the right decision. I usually drive more than average for the country, I save tons of money by doing things on my drive and taking care of my car which is now old and well used. I had recently a hybrid battery failure after 13.5 years of service and 269000 miles, I bought a new battery from local dealer for £1500 and put in myself. No warranty requests, hassle, waiting time, approval for replacement etc no bs, just plug and play the car needs to roll. For all folks that have 5+ year old Toyotas and can do diy service, do it and you will have less problems and less headaches. , and of course save yourself a good cash.

  35. Perhaps because the car is GR Sport with 18” wheels and UHP tyres. Although Goodyear very likely to offer same efficient grip performance 2 in this size some people will not like them and say they are too soft and steering wheel feel vague and car doesn’t corner as before, there are are Eagle F1 for this type of drivers but if the Continental or Michelin are more favourite or preferred brand then there is nothing wrong with those. For me the Goodyear tyres are currently best ratio price-quality, and I will only replace all or nothing. If me I will rotate front to rear for the summer and then buy all 4 new tyres.

  36. It's basically for the same reasons people recommend handbrakes don't be used in winter and cars just be left in 1st gear - worry the parking brake might stick or bind together. The EPB clamps with a lot more force than a regular handbrake (Which is one of the reasons manufacturers switched to them when they switched to rear discs - It's very hard to make a reliable normal handbrake that can clamp with enough force to a disc without requiring the driver to be related to Geoff Capes or Eddie Hall ), and because you can't do the bump/rock trick to release them like you can do with a manual handbrake, some people try to reduce the risk of them freezing or rusting onto the disc by just not using them. And because drum brakes are shielded but disc brakes are not, EPBs can be more susceptible to this sort of thing if they're left for extended periods. The reason I don't do that and always use the handbrake/EPB is not using it just puts all the load on the parking pawl, and while I'm sure they've beefed it up since the Prius Mk2, if it does ever snap it will practically write-off the car because AFAIK the whole hybrid drive assembly would need to be replaced as they won't repair just that one part since it's deep inside where the power split device that links MG1, MG2 and the ICE together lives. I also think that, like many things in the car, regular use keeps the EPB healthy as it keeps the lubricant spread out and doesn't let corrosion build up in one area - If you don't ever use it, that increases the chance of a problem when you eventually do use it, as the internal threads will probably be crustified where the lubricant has just been sitting there drying out.

  37. Interestingly my service book suggests that it is necessary in certain eastern European countries. Perhaps this is due to the local quality of the fuel.

  38. Why Continentals? Just out of curiosity If you are not pushing the car and just want quieter touring tyres, which also last well, why don't you consider GoodYear EGP 2? They are cheaper too - very good money for value tyres. The Good Years egp 2 have been discussed and are highly recommended here already I wonder why Tony didn't mention them already 😀😂

  44. If you long press the parking brake switch it will revert to 'manual' mode, meaning you will have to apply and disengage the parking brake via the switch yourself. In this mode, another long press will revert it back to auto. When we park up, we select N. release the footbrake, let the car settle to rest, slip it into P, and after the parking brake has applied itself we simply press the switch to unset the brake. We only park this way on our drive. Any other time, we just let the auto park do it's thing.

  45. That should have been picked up in the safety inspection of the service. Really poor! You shouldn't have to look at these things yourself, but my experience is similar to yours. You just cannot blindly trust them. While not essential, you might want to get a pad mounting kit to get new springs.

  47. I do agree it could have been handled better, but it definitely doesn't affect every owner, and I think more of us haven't had 12v problems than have; Mine's been fine and it's nearly 3 years old. I've never trickle-charged it, and it has been left for weeks during a lot of the school holidays when work is light, and one time was left all day with the side lights on! Hopefully it's water under the bridge now as, if my theory about it being due to pallets of them being left untended over covid, holds any truth, then the problem should be almost gone with the newer vehicles as fresh batteries are going straight into new cars instead of half-dead ones.

  48. Hi all, as I received my car quite a few weeks ago already, I would like to provide some reply on my own questions so these can support someone else. It is very similar to a closed roof Aygo X. The noise level is the same, but you have a new origin of noise in the roof, this is obvious specially while driving through tunnels or under bridges, when you can feel the difference. Except those cases, there is almost no difference for me and I am very happy with it, it is OK even travelling long distances at 120kph in the highway (according to my Apple Watch, noise level is the same at this speed -> 67-68dB in both cases). No more humidity or water ingress issue, even while washing the car with high pressure. As a surplus, I do enjoy every moment of sunlight!

  50. I think you had answered your own question, the tyre fitter most likely didn’t cleaned properly the sealant prior to installing the new tyre. Or the new tyre is defective or out of balance. Perhaps back to the same place and ask for further investment and solution.
