  1. Could be wrong, but it sounds like a possible snapped timing chain? Providing the rest of the car is in good condition, I would replace the engine and keep the car. It should then be good for another 91k. You would only get around £2k selling it as it is anyway. Good luck.

  2. The engine is non-interference, so just needs a new belt and if necessary a tensioner. I followed FrostyBalls wiki link and right near the end of the description, in the paragraph on the 7A you find the statement about non-interference. Since the valves will never come into contact with the pistons, plus the inlet cam is driven by gears off the exhaust cam locking them together, this engine should have no problems. Another thing is that there may be timing overlap where the valves are open with the piston at top dead centre. The water pump does not have to be changed, only remove the bolts holding the pulley to give clearance. The only thing I would suggest is to fit a new belt and turn the engine by hand to feel the compression. That way you will know if your engine is okay before actually starting it. I had a tensioner break on a Maestro at high speed, fitted a new one and running fine. Better than a chain cam breaking!!

  5. The only fuel consumption figures that car manufacturers are legally allowed to quote in advertising, etc are the official EU fuel consumption testing figures - http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/fcb/the-fuel-consumption-testing-scheme.asp' These are obtained under laboratory conditions and do not relate well to 'real world' fuel consumption - ie the actual mpg that owners can expect to achieve. If you want to get an idea of what mpg owners are getting have a look at http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/ or http://www.whatcar.com/truempg/

  6. For quite some time now I have been getting PMs from members asking questions about the engine issues and the procedure as to how Toyota decide on replacement or not and what happens and also what to expect ect ect... Now I have always responded to these questions and have never once ignored a PM.. But with HUGE respect most of the answers are here and not so hard to find.. Many of the members here are also very competent (Most more than me !) of answering the questions .. I just don't have the time these days to come on so often and I don't want anyone sending a PM to think I am ignoring them as sometimes I flit in and out without much time.. I sincerely hope no one is offended by this and I will continue to reply.. But expect it to take a little time.. Charlie.

  11. Saturday June 8, 2013 was the day for the Hi iQ 2013 Scion iQ Owners Meet and Greet. The event was held at the headquarters of FIVE:AD in Huntington Beach, CA. I wish the personally than Troy Sumitomo the owner of FIVE:AD / Five Axis and Matt Teske the marketing and events genius at FIVE:AD. The original venue had to be changed and they stepped up to provide an excellent place to hold the event and did some awesome promotion to help make the event the success that it was. The event was an informal gathering of Scion iQ owners so they could meet face to face and spend some time enjoying each other's rides. FIVE:AD provided us a great location and even had lunch catered in from La Choza Mexican Restaurant. The owners were all very nice people and the lunch was delicious. This thread contains photos of the event. A special thank you to all the vendors who participated in the event either by attending with a booth or donating prizes to the charity raffle. There was more than $2000 in donated prizes. A little over $800 was raised for the Valley Restart Shelter in Hemet, CA. iQ owners may have small cars but they have huge hearts! The vendors included: FIVE:AD Beat-Sonic USA DC Sports Primo Powder Coating OEM Audio Plus WAK Shop Killerwaxx PowerBass USA Varad Lighting Amsoil Scion Corp Toyota LA Regional And now the pictures.. The FIVE:AD booth... Daniel from OEM Audio Plus... Eric from Beat-Sonic USA... Brenda from Primo Powder Coating... Art from Killerwaxx... The owner registration table... And the prize table for the raffle... My wife Kelly on the left and my friend Desiree on the right selling raffle tickets... Mike chose the option of buying raffle tickets by paying $40 to wrap the iQ, he wrapped it twice around... Mike also wrapped his iQ... And Tinisha wasn't shy about buying raffle tickets either... Rain wrapped her iQ three times around and it payed off, she won a ton of prizes...
