  1. I know there are several posts on this but...I've lost my Avensis 98 GLS Estate key. I do have the master and a spare which both open & start the car but set the alarm off for 45 seconds. This makes the car still usable but upsets the neighbours twice a day and gets funny looks in Sainsbury's car park. My questions are these: Can I disable the alarm so can drive while waiting for new key?Where and how will I come by a new key with transponder?Any help much appreciated as I love my trusty and dent free Avensis. As a musician, It reliably takes my equipment and me from gig to gig all year round! All the best, J.

  2. This was a common (early) complaint with the head unit fitted to the Prius. It has a 1000 contact limit. Fine for the average geek with two friends and a mother, not so great for business users. I'm surprised it's still an issue to be honest, think Toyota dropped off a bit there. I don't know any any solution I'm afraid, apart from trimming your contacts list...which is probably not a solution at all!

  3. Don't get hung up on what brands are good / bad / better, stick to proprietary brands of the correct grade, 5w 30 C2 low ash (or better)

  4. I can tell you that steering column clunk might be front anti roll bar bushes, if not then drop link bushes, if not steering rack bushed (these are used when mounting rack on to the front metal cross member) and then follow the trail really. These are all pretty cheap to fix.well mine are i hope yours are too. Rear suspension, again check bushes these only require a visible inspection, take led torch or anything with light park the car up half on a pavement and get under it and give everything a visual check, these manky rubbers are easy to spot. If nothing shouts at you check rear shocks and coils by pushing your car down from the boot and see if it bounces up and down. It should only bounce back up not down and this bounce back up should only be ONE. If more, shocks are going or gone. And do this on a quiet road and see if you can hear clunk while checking shocks. 5. How did you get on exvec? Forgot to add that since you have put everything back, these light dont go out by themselves, these codes have to be erased from the ecu. I learnt my lesson while checking my spark plug coils, I simply unplugged all of them and BANG BANG BANG BANG FOUR FAULT CODES sent me into massive panic mode only when I read them, I realised what I had done. hahahahaha... Erased them all, light never came back on. DUN DUN DUN DUN... Regards, Waqar

  6. Thanks, I like it too. Improvement in looks and handling is huge! I am using BC Racing V1. Small update on the situation. Rear tyres interfered with guards on couple of bumps so I had to take 4mm off the rims, my new offset is now ET24. Going to roll the guards next in order to drop it a slight bit more without rubbing even with passengers/stuff inside the car. And more pics:

  10. Yes, I know you can get specialised insurance for modified and kit cars, but I was talking more about for the mainstream motorist waning an every day driver. Also don't tar everyone with the same brush. We are not all into insurance scams. With car insurance I have never claimed for anything that wasn't damaged by the third party, and never claimed for injury. I have been a home owner for 23 years and only ever made one house insurance claim, so please don't say "We are all at it".

  11. What i find as a big con is this My wife and i were last year and this insured with Tesco. She has a a 7 seater Verso same year as my iQ. We are both named drivers on each others insurance. We both have 25yrs No claims. Her insurance was £250 last year and £252 this year. Mine however was £178 last year but this year it went up over 46% to £260. Higher than her's is. Same drivers in the same house. No conditions had changes! Speaking to them and pointing out the anomaly, they said that is how the underwriters have valued the risk and initially would not budge on it until i pointed out that on confused.com site under Tesco, with the same info mine came in at £185 ! Oh! he said let me see what i can do. He came back saying i cant give you that one on the phone but can do £205. £55 off what seconds before he couldn't budge on. Seems all the phone operators are on commission and will simply rip you off David

  12. Think a lot of people, when they make an insurance claim, view it as an opportunity to get some extra money by inflating claims - be it a household, car or travel insurance claim. Any claims we've made, we've just wanted the damaged item repaired or replaced with the minimum of fuss. Luckily our last car insurance claim was back in 2008 - when my partner's Mazda was hit by two drug dealers in a pool car being chased by the Police. Even though the claim went down as an uninsured loss, our insurance company were excellent - the car was back on the road within two weeks after using a manufacturer approved body shop, and we were kept mobile for the repair duration. No loss of NCD (guaranteed NCD) and no increase in premium either. Although we did have to pay our £50 excess.

  13. Back on topic, I nipped in to my local breakers yard to look for a set of wheel nuts for my new steel spare wheel. I took a nut off the iQ and carried it with me to make the comparison. The first Japanese car I came to was an old Honda, and the nut I was carrying fitted so I collected four nuts (steel wheel type) from inside the car and took them back with me. They fit nicely on the iQ, and the guy charged me three quid for the set. Happy with that.
