  1. I feel I need to add a quick update. What a car! Ive had it 13 days today, covered just over 1000 miles in that time, most for work. Total average MPG 53.4. Had a job today in Wigan, 160 miles round trip from Wolverhampton, mainly M6. Set cruise at 70 (50/60 though roadworks) comfortable, effortless, cannot fault. I do find though that this car gives better MPG on A and B roads than sat on motorways. A previous day I traveled from Manchester to Derby dales and though Buxton and then to Stoke on Trent. I would say at least 50 percent was in EV mode. On motorways with cruise the Rev counter is mostly at about 1500 revs. Also as an ex Diesel driver I find I need to stay in Eco mode as I still have a heavy right foot ☺️ Well done Toyota 👍

  2. Correct, if any codes are stored, you cannot carry out the HHC. Once cleared, you need to drive 500 miles before the HHC can be completed

  3. I've never come across the HV battery check issue since the Health Checks started so can't comment there. I agree very much with the sentiment about the way the Hybrids drive. I bought my first Prius in 2002, but after just 6 months/12,000 miles it was totalled in a crash. In fact, I had just left my dealer (0.4 miles from the scene) and got on the phone to my salesman while waiting for some lifting equipment to recover my Prius from where it had landed. Long before the crane arrived, I'd agreed a deal to buy their 6 month old demonstrator as soon as my insurance coughed up! I may have been influenced when I bought the car by the environmental credentials and running costs, but it was the way it drove that was completely behind by keenness to get another ASAP. In fact, in 2019, after over 320,000 miles in a succession of Gen 2, 3 and 4 Prius, I was forced to get rid of my 4th Gen Prius because it's low ride height had caused colossal problems with with my hips, that then started to affect my knees and lower back. Heavy doses of 2 types of strong pain killer and some expensive physiotherapy only slightly helped, and I knew from the pain getting in and out of the Prius that it was making things worse - or so I thought! I looked around the market for a car that met my various requirements and drove at least as well as the Prius, and ended up with the RAV4 Hybrid. It turned out that the Prius wasn't partially responsible for my issues, it was entirely the cause. After three months in the RAV, all the problems (and the 10 pain killers a day) had completely gone!

  5. I remember a few years ago on the Honest John website there was a long term review of an Auris hybrid and they tested it on a long commute on Sport and Normal modes and found the fuel consumption to be very similar.

  7. No current Toyota/Lexus supports Wireless Android auto nor Carplay, nor will they, on release of the software allowing early Corolla/Rav4 to get AA/CP they issued a Q & A to dealers in this they stated current MM17 / MM19 head units cannot support wireless AA/CP nor will they be able to receive software updates to do so as the hardware is not capable. A new multimedia setup is in development ( MM21 ) which will support wireless AA/CP and this will be rolled out in to new/facelifted models in time.

  8. I tried sport mode on a country lane I’m quite familiar with this morning ( call me old fashioned but I still give a new car 1000 miles running in period) I’m quite impressed with the power delivery as I’m used to turbo diesels. i will try sport mode on the motorway soon to see what difference it makes. ive been looking at the MyT app tonight and found it details each journey and includes a hybrid score EV percentage etc. Handy for logging the business and personal miles.

  9. Have spoken with the dealer and await their response. Just to make it clear the noise is most certainly associated with the way the power is being routed from the engine. it’s not a wind noise. Immediately the EV mode is selected by the engine the noise stops. The closest analogy I can make is it’s like a transformer hum but at a high frequency. Bit like the hum of an eddy current on grid step down transformer. I was told it may be a dash rattle, loose wire ? Something in the glove box. I have owned a few fiat’s (3 from new) I well know what dash board noises are. The dealer said you cannot make comparisons between the RAV and Yaris different set up. I’m going to set a dash cam up focused on the centre dash info display. Whilst the picture will be ok I hope the mic pics up the noise produced. I can almost guarantee that a dealer road test will not produce the noise I’m hearing. It’s Sod’s law.

  10. You'd have fewer swirl marks if you didn't wash it. The only time mine gets washed is when it gets serviced. So if you want to see it looking clean this Friday is your next opportunity 🙂

  11. Same here, it's been legally challenged in England that you CAN have accompanied test drives, but morally a lot don't want that, which is fair enough. We are doing click and collects etc, and have indeed sold a lot of vehicles, it's just the showroom is a changed environment now, not for the better either with people staying away, no TV, coffee etc, weird.

  16. Eco mode ultra slow response, Normal is ok for all occasions and power when needed, I don’t use it much as after switching back to Normal feels like I am in Eco, that’s why not playing with modes. 🚙👍

  17. I think sales must be quiet, if not the service dept. My dealer is contacting me constantly to discuss "My finance agreement". I am over half way through my PCP, and they want me to buy a new plate! With only 9K on the clock and lock down, it does not seem a viable option to buy a new car which is the same except for Android Auto which I don't use, and a new plate. So hopefully your dealer can turn it around quickly for you.

  18. Reminds me of when I had my SAAB! I always forgot when parking to not park with the nose over the curbs at the edge of car parks. I would park happily on my own. Then give 2 mates a lift home. Car drops an inch with the extra weight. I reverse to the happy sound of the nose scraping over the curb as it has now grounded! Happy days patching up ripped bodywork!

  22. My other half had a 2017 Yaris Icon and it didn't have the AUTO lights although it had all the other things as you mention. As far as I am aware the Icon Tech is basically an Icon with Sat Nav so I wouldn't expect it to have automatic lights. Turning them on and off manually is just one of those things. Manufacturers sometimes have what appears to be illogical differences between specs. The daytime lights on the Icon are ordinary bulbs, the higher spec models are LED.....

  24. You don't have to change the tensioner just for the leak, you can take it out and reseal it with a good seal like gasket maker. If you want to change it because of the age, then just replace the tensioner (together with o-ring or a gasket, whatever it came with) and crank the engine clockwise. You will hear a metallic sound when the little piston is released from the hook. Turn another circle to make sure. I did it like that on my car with the same engine as yours. If you are not sure how to do it watch this video, it explains everything in detail, I followed it and it was easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBIjn4QZCpY&list=PLLGWnXqXktclSvi3EEQyPe65g1JwXvO-U&index=34

  28. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173521013506 This is what I use and change every 10k miles or 1 year, high quality filter and does the job very well, easy to change. , probably the most important filter in any car as it’s directly impact your health especially if you drive a lot and in dense populated places or busy motorways. Pictures below shows difference between new and 10k miles old, significant and the does smells like petrol fumes. Feel sorry for bike riders that does not use any sort of masks or anything.

  29. The enhanced one is activated carbon Mahle. Bosch or Hengst all work well and are under £15 for the carbon one, The oem one is under £20 - frankly those prices are a rip off for what in essence is a 2-min job It's the same as the yaris, behind the glove box - plenty of vids on YouTube

  31. That’s usually the last thing done at the factory and probably most precisely and by hand therefore I don’t think anyone needs wheel alignment on a new car unless you hit a massive pothole or kerb. I checked mine when bought 5 years old and was ok, slight adjustment where made then after 3 years and 30k miles checked again and was perfect. If you steering wheel is straight and the car doesn’t pull massively to one side and your tyres are wearing evenly there is nothing to worry for the first few years of ownership. Very often poor workmanship from garages will mess your car alignment instead of correcting it properly, avoid kwickfit and similar fast service, look for 4 wheel alignment specialist as your Corollas needs check and adjustments on all 4 wheels and when front axle is adjusted offsets the rear axle and that needs to be adjusted too. 👍

  32. Hi, better don’t replace anything if it’s not broken. Only regular inspection and if any signs of wear and tear then replace but you going to feel the car changes behaviour., noise, grinding rattling. Old doesn’t necessarily mean broken 😊

  34. I am positive, the steam coming from exhaust it’s very different when caused of the mentioned reason and when it’s caused by the engine failure, head gasket will have pure white smoke and sweet smell, oil burning will have blue colour and strong rubber burning smell, black smoke with smell of unburnt fuel is another story too. Now you know to look for it will definitely notice if you start the car in cold days. Hybrids especially are like steam engines. 💨💨💨💨💨😂🚘

  37. Hi Mooly, I'm seeing if there is a pattern to the Toyota 12v fitment, just for my own benefit. As you are often helping with suggestions and feedback I thought it might be of use reporting what I think is fitted to what, but I'm happy to be proved wrong. As far as I can see, in the Toyota hybrid, if the 12v battery is fitted in the passenger compartment or in the boot, then Toyota (and Lexus it seems) fit an AGM battery. I did think that the AGM's slightly different electrical characteristics were also better suited to the hybrid application, but... But, on the C-HR, Prius gen4 and Corolla 1.8 the (45Ah) battery is fitted under the bonnet (not least because the inverter has been reduced in size, so it can now physically fit). On these cars, as far as I can tell, the batteries are not AGM, just a regular lead/acid. So perhaps the AGM's characteristics are not useful, beyond accident leakage protection etc? The 2 litre Corolla has the 12v battery in the boot (lack of space with the 2 litre motor), as I understand it. So it would figure that that battery is AGM again, but I don't know that, yet. An Auris and Yaris (pre 2020) hybrids have an almost identical 35Ah AGM battery, which I think is the same as the Prius gen 3, which you almost certainly are aware of. The CT200h has the luxury of a 45Ah AGM battery, despite being so similar mechanically and electrically to the Prius gen3 and Auris. It would be interesting to know if the DC/DC converter's characteristics are much modified to suit the switching from AGM to 'Normal' 12v batteries in these newer models. Also, on a different note, against expectations, the 2 litre Corolla runs with NiMH traction batteries, which Toyota acknowledges work better in the cold. The 1.8 model Corolla doesn't have those. Hopefully there's something in the above that's of use.
