  1. Ha ha. I've spent too much time on the American forums I forgot I was in Blighty where we all get sarcasm, irony and satire. When I jokingly suggested the rear camera quality could be improved by adjusting the VHS long play tracking potentiometer most them went on a search for it.😂

  2. I am super pleased with these new Heko Wind Deflectors I got from here at the excellent price of £37.45! (also available here for the same price) They fitted like a glove. The clips were a bit fiddly to install but with a bit of care and window control nudging to ease them up, they went in fine in the end (thong side inwards so that it grips the window rubber seal). I would suggest that it is important to use alcohol wipes on the rubber (outer side) where the adhesive strips are and also to pay attention to the (at least) 1 hr leaving the windows up so that the strips stick properly. I'll update here as to how they are whilst driving...

  3. Sorry I've been naughty here with the comedy exaggeration of my upset at Toyota for such a minuscule problem. I know what real problems are like with the last car, Peugeot 3008 hybrid4 300GT. They were problems. Anyways, apologies. Anyone else looking forward to the laser disk upgrade on the RAV4? Passenger parcel shelf is replaced by the disk player. Disk storage pack is available for the boot. Capable of containing at least 6 movies. Supplied with Terminator 2 over 2 discs. Playback is on the 9 inch infotainment display but only when the car is in Park and a passenger is detected in the front passenger seat that is over 45 years old. *** I'm joking. Terminator 2. It's on 3 discs.

  4. Yeah I'm pretty bad too; I'll give it a quick once over with the pressure hose just to wash the worst of it off but I'm just too lazy to spend a day cleaning it properly when I know it'll look exactly the same after a week!!

  5. Why? Is the CEO going to come out and do a firmware update for you? Of course not, he will pass it to customer relations who will pass it to your dealer. So save yourself some time and visit the dealer to see if there is a specific update for you. Count yourself lucky missing the news

  6. i do not have images, but ive got a corolla with the "multi led" (reflector type) and borrowed a BI-LED when i left mine on service, and what i can tell is that you (to my eyes) get more light output from the multi led (sience also says projectors steal a bit of the oumph), BUT however the reflector type leaves you with a couple hot-spots and some low lit areas infront of you where as the bi-led may shine a bit less compared to the hotspots but with a hugely more even spread. i guess its personal opinion, more light but with hotspots or less light in a very even pattern, i would also argue the high beam on bi-led is more usefull! multi led highbeam is sort of just two floodlights compared to bi-led high beam wich is very directed light. this is my first post on this forum and im from sweden so grammar may not be on point 🙂 anyway hope you get a sense of what there is to pick

  7. It a problem where real world clashes with 'every conceivable criteria'. I once wrote and tested a computer program to deal with complex vector calculations based on geographical positions. Thoroughly tested and fully debugged. I took it airborne and it crashed on the first leg.

  8. You're not missing much. It's a solution in search for a problem, and given how much money has been ploughed into it, it really hasn't proven its value over traditional FM IMHO. On the plus side it allows more radio channels, but on the downside it's much more expensive, the quality's worse half the time and most of the extra channels are garbage anyway. I only use the radio for traffic announcements these days; If I want to listen to music, I have access to virtually all the music in the world so why listen to someone else's playlist? And most of the hosts and talk radio people just wind me right up and if there's one place I don't want to be angry it's while driving! The only DAB channel that was any interest to me was the traffic radio channel, but they killed that off some years ago long before I even got a DAB receiver! IMHO they should move those stations online and give the DAB spectrum to mobile phones and keep 2G running instead of killing it off so only people with new phones can use them still.

  10. Yes, most Toyota standard basic stereos should have a CD changer port, to which adapters can be added. I am currently using Wefatech WF-606 I got as an upgrade on my previous units. Unfortunately the price has gone up since 2019. Most of the adapters are sold by seller to work with T25 Avensis, but work perfectly with the T27 like mine. Here are my posts on the subject.

  11. Hmmm... I used to be really keen on car cleaning and yes, my Auris is pretty mint but it doesn't get the attention I used to give. It does get dry weather use only though so that helps enormously. Once upon a time I would wax it every few months, now its every couple of years. Previous cars had me taking the wheels off once a year and waxing them back and front... not now. The old Corolla gets a wash maybe once or twice a year. Its silver and looks surprisingly good all year round. Last wax was over a decade ago, the last wash (and this is true) used Flash Floor cleaner in really hot water. As far as removing dirt goes (that thin film that dedicated car shampoo doesn't remove) the Flash has no equal. It removes it all. When I used a Toyota dealer for servicing (for the Auris and its predecessor) I used to always say no wash and no valet please because whatever they used always seemed to remove the highly polished finish. Had to laugh one time because the service manager who I had dealt with for years said 'well we are supposed to wash and vacuum it but we've had a meeting and decided that whatever we might do would only make it worse. Is that OK?'. Interior of the Corolla is very good and the Auris interior is genuinely pristine and far better than a new car on delivery even at 12yrs old and 83k.

  15. My 2.0 is the same. Loads of water vapour when pulling away briskly. Even had the odd following vehicle flash me thinking my engine has just blown up. Love it. But I do wonder how long the exhaust will last with all that water laying inside the pipes, especially at this time of the year.

  16. Apologies. Comedy on my part with the exaggerated post about contacting the CEO. 😉 Didn't lose radio signal. The software locked up. Software problem. Conflict with AA interrupts suspected. No sound was a symptom not a cause I think.

  17. Ok gang, so my Corolla has arrived, went to sign some papers today and took a look at it. Sadly it is MY21. Sigh. Oh well:) Still looked pretty cool in Manhattan Grey. Need to wire the rest of the dinero and have them put the license plates on. Already planning small trips here and there

  18. Well, that’s not a hybrid and completely different gearbox, gear selector and problems, that video does not apply to your car too. You may have worn out clutch or issues with the gear actuator, but I can’t help any further. My advice is to take the car to a garage you trust and usually use to service it within, make sure you take the fault codes readings. 👍

  19. If it was me (and it was this time and last time) - I got it home then next day full clean, clay, polish (very very mild) / cleanser and wax. Gives it a good start...I've yet to see even a brand new car form any dealer across now 5 cars come PDI'd to the level I can get mine, not even close. Worth treating it as a full clean to make sure all the crap form transport/standing in compound is all off before first coats of wax.

  22. Since we bought our 2021 Yaris in April of 2021, we've been getting a steady 65-67mpg. Since a recall just before Christmas, this has dropped to the mid to low 50s. I assume this is a software issue, which I'll get sorted at some time. I know I've been using the heated window and air con a lot, but that doesn't account for such a large drop in mpg. Before anyone says anything, I know the readouts are not accurate, and I do know how to get an accurate figure 😃

  23. It just needs a valve cover gasket/cover (set) the plugs are dry the oil is from the spark plug wells (note. the end of the coils a soaked on 3 and 4) the rubber gaskets go hard and crispy with age and mileage Gasket Toyota - 11213-47020 Victor Reinz - 71-54088-00 Valve cover - the spark plug tube seal is part of the valve cover - not sure if it supplied with the above gasket or not 11201-47072 - superseded by 11201-47073 - it's not cheap If it was letting oil past the rings the plugs would be black not an ash colour to me, they look a bit HOT, but there was a change in plug spec on the 1NRFE Edit. They are NGK and tend to be a cooler plug - OEM is Denso SC16HR11 (replaces the old SC20HR)

  24. Your dealership will already have in PDI cleaned and waxed your car and it should be gleaming. If you feel like work you could add a layer of polish protection which is useful over the bad winter weather.

  25. Two 110km mostly autoroute trips, yesterday. Ambient temperature roughly 11°C, the MyT average for the out and back 4,35l/100km (65mpg). I used ACC for about 75% of those trips. The roundtrip involves about 500 metres change in altitude. My first brim to brim fill gave me 4,66l/100km (c. 61 mpg), that was mostly short journeys < 10km with a fair sprinkling of c. 25km trips. I'm pretty happy with the 4,66 average, given that the last brim to brim on the 208 was 6,58 (mid December) which is broadly comparable weather wise. Both tanks on E10, which is my normal for the last 6 years or so. I was hoping for a 30-40% improvement in fuel economy, that clocks in at about 29%.

  26. Definitely not outside the realms of possibility... Toyota's infotainment systems are not known to be particularly great. They do tend to plough most of their development into the hybrid drivetrain side of things and skimp a bit on others. Having seen the systems in german and even korean marques, Toyotas tends to be well down the ranking tables in my mind, but I'm lucky it suits me because it's a low priority to me too Since it's only happened once I'd put it down to just a weird glitch or cosmic rays or ley lines or something. Maybe see if your dealer has any updates for the system at the next service? I still can't get Traffic Announcements to work with DAB, so I'm still using FM for that!

  28. PK works at a dealer so I think it's not as funny for him as he's probably encountered people who make such complaints before, but actually seriously And we have had some really self-entitled people on here in the past...! (Usually frosty has to roll out his boiler plate "This is forum is not affiliated with Toyota and Toyota do not read these posts etc." at that point ) I do wonder whether the station you're trying to listen to is DAB or DAB+ This government really screwed digital radio by banning DAB+ for many years, before finally allowing some testbed DAB+ transmitter systems. DAB was a garbage system from the start - It uses narrow channels and rubbish compression so the quality is often worse than FM, and it doesn't even have doppler compensation, so the faster you are moving the more the signal degrades, and it's even worse in built-up areas because it can't handle signal bounce. DAB+ fixes a lot of its flaws, including better compression and doppler compensation, but because of the government initially banning DAB+, it's only really emerged from enthusiast only and filtered into mainstream in the past few years. I'm not sure how many stations have converted to DAB+ or are still using crappy old DAB. I think most vehicles since they changed the car tax do support DAB+ tho'.

  29. If you want good fuel consumption, try the 1.8: Though I think there's a couple of taxi drivers on here who will beat that.

  30. For what it’s worth, I have the 2.0 litre and have been tracked fuel consumption over the last year. Ranges from between 5.9l/100km (~48mpg) to 7.0l/100km (~40mpg) depending on the weather and type of driving but would typically be 6.1l/100km (~46mpg)

  33. Who knows if they will improve? They have had an 80 mile motorway run in amongst other driving in the past week. Will give them another week. However I do need European approved winter or all-weather tyres for next winter so at some point I will be replacing them. If I do it now I will have a set of almost new saleable tyres to dispose of. By the autumn and part worn they may be unsellable.

  34. EV EV city values EV usage above efficiency. It prevents use of the ICE, even if that is he best option. Use this in town if you value environmental impact over efficiency and performance.

  35. I’ve done nearly 6k since I got the car and have used them in very wet, heavy snow and ice and as I said surprised at how well they performed for an OEM tyre. They were specifically developed from a Yokohama all weather tyre for the RAV PHEV. As always it’s personal choice, I was prepared to buy new tyres immediately but so far I’m happy to run with the Toyota OEM’s. But when I change it will be for the CrossClimates.

  36. Heko are the top brand for vehicle wind deflectors - never seen any complaints on any of the various forums I've frequented over the years or from friends I know that have fitted them to there own vehicles.

  37. No your average mpg is calculated as <total fuel burnt> divided by <total distance travelled>. It does not take into account how long the ICE ran for. You can't really calculate what the actual ICE MPG is because it's impossible to isolate the ICE without disabling the electrical system and that renders the information incorrect anyway.

  38. Moved away from the Lexus specific Yokohama's on the CT200 a couple of years go and put Michelin CrossClimate on all four corners. Best upgrade I've done to that car. Great all-round, all-year tyre. Much better, steering feel and a quieter drive compared to the Yokohama's. Good grip in the wet too. Oh, and they're cheaper (not cheap).

  39. I’d go for CrossClimates, the RAV size seems to the be the same as the OEM fit for the Volvo. So far I’ve been happy with the OEM fit Yokohama’s, I’ve not, felt the need to rush out and buy CrossClimates.

  40. I would be pushing hard for the reg if my clutch on my current car (that will be my trade in) was not about to go pop. So currently I am hoping it gets here sooner than what they said. Even so I am not overly concered about the reg being 22 would be nice but car will be changed in 2 years anyway.

  42. This can be a minor problem if happens again or became permanent issue , but just because the car lost radio signal for some reason can’t really be a serious problem., a serious problem is when you loose all power and the car goes into neutral N and stops on busy dual carriageway with fast and furious lorries , cars and vans around in rush our plus no hard shoulder to pull over, that is what I call a serious problem, and that happens to few members with brand new Toyota hybrids, I will call your one just a glitch and leave it alone until happens again, then may look for solution or call Toyota or dealer. Sorry I can’t be of any help but I hope you are not that angry anymore that you had missed the news 😉👍

  44. I suspect that is a bit of an unanswerable question at this point. If the fault is as you say... then do you know what the cause is and what most common rectification is? I suspect (but do not know for sure) that Halfords and Quickfit might end up sub contracting work out themselves if it was beyond what they were capable of (or wanted) to do. My instincts say use Toyota for this.

  45. Oil in the spark plug wells is usually a sign that the "O" rings have deteriorated and are allowing oil to pass. It's usually a cheapand easy fix. It could be other things but that would be the firdt thing to check. You might find a video on YouTube.

  49. When I worked in the customer services department for a German Sports car manufacturer, I remember getting a call from a customer to say the wiring in the engine bay had been eaten by rats. This particular customer wanted us to replace his wiring under warranty. I explained that this had been caused by rats and wasn't a warranty claim. I was then told that he lived in a million pound mansion and there was no way that there could be rats on his property. I'm sure that if the rat had known it was on such an expensive property, it would have immediately left without doing any damage. Everyone knows how polite rats can be when they know you're rich. Needless to say, his car wasn't repaired under warranty.

  50. Hi Andy, I was not posting the mpg figures from my Prius to say this is what you should be achieving in your 2.0 litre Corolla, I know there are differences between the two cars. I dont consider my comments pointless. What I was showing is that it is possible to get very good fuel consumption from Toyota hybrid engines if the circumstances are favourable ie weather, type of terrain, even road surface, plus the style of driving. I have spent more then a few hours on places like YouTube looking at videos of drivers who are passing on techniques they use to achieve good fuel consumption figures. By doing so I have put into practice what I have learnt, and that has meant I too can achieve the “official” mpg figures on the occasions that circumstances are advantageous, and at all times I will get better mpg then if I had not put into practice those driving techniques. The official figures for your 2.0 litre hybrid show 50-60mpg, depending on what wheels you have fitted. Achieving those figures will be possible, I believe, if all circumstances are good, and that includes the driving techniques adopted. I cannot achieve those high mpg figures every time I drive. When I achieved those figures in late June 2019, you recall it was a hot summer, we decided to travel home from Gloucester to Chester using the A roads, never touched a Mway, so 60 mph max, often less. Beautiful scenery, very relaxing, the car engine wholly warm (which is important for good mpg I find), and I just drove the car as I have trained myself to do. If I had done that journey on a cold December day, I expect the mpg to be maybe 8mpg less, possibly more then that. I appreciate not everyone has the inclination to watch YouTube videos, but they helped me get the mpg I do. If that is what needs to be done to achieve the “official” figures, it shows the “official” figures can be achieved, but the driver and other circumstances are very much part of that achievement. I find this forum to be very helpful, and the atmosphere is very good. I have been on one or two forums in the past (not car related forums), where there are some very angry people, who, if you don’t agree with them they can rant and rave. This forum is certainly NOT like that. Here, advice is given freely, and it’s up to each individual to either accept and work along with it, or simply dismiss it, a choice we all have. I believe that concept will continue.
