  1. Yes but the upscaled plastic crash barriers would help prevent that -

  2. After cracking my head on the 3/4 open boot lid one day then watching my wife do the exact same thing the next day, I decided that enough was enough and the gas struts clearly needed replacing. Nice easy job. Each end of the struts has a cup arrangement which fits over a nipple on either the door or door surround. There's a clip over the top of the cup which holds it all in place. You can free the clip by slipping a flat bladed screwdriver underneath and levering it. I found I could just pop the replacements on with a firm push without risking disturbing the clips. The boot now opens fully under its own steam. These are the ones I used at £22.49 the pair: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314522039653

  4. You will not get 300K miles out of a vw most barely make it over 100k without something big happening also vw's look cheaper when new but you can put £2-4K in options on the car to make them comparable, everything is an extra

  5. +1 for Tony & DC - this looks like the same reasoning which has removed the Prius from UK sales. Toyota UK doesn't think that they sell enough cars to justify the overlap.

  6. I believe Toyota did not offered Corolla cross in UK because it could cannibalise the sales of Corolla hatchback and TS which are built in England. Otherwise it would sell well because it’s just the perfect size suv. Yaris cross is lovely but too small, where Rav4 too big, chr not really a family car because of its quirky design on the rear doors/windows that made it claustrophobic and ultra dark for the rear passengers.

  7. You've got to give credit to the safety systems in the new Yaris. It's like a paranoid bodyguard on wheels, with sensors and warning systems that go above and beyond. It can keep a watchful eye on your tyre pressures, save clueless pedestrians, and even rat out that bag of groceries on the back seat for not buckling up. But hey, guess what's missing? A fancy warning light for the washer bottle! Nope, instead, they thought it would be hilarious to rely on a masterpiece of entomological abstract art—dead moths and flies splattered across your windscreen! 😬

  8. Ok , you can rely on sensors and perhaps dealer "care" but I prefer to have the evidence of the actual fluid levels in front of me. But we all have different views on car maintenance, and I respect yours. BTW, I am really old fashioned and ramble a lot , so that may colour my views being brought up on leaky old fords and BMC .

  9. Yeah, I mean it is literally the 2nd cheapest family of models the brand has. Given, still a decent bit more expensive than regular Yaris, but that's likely due to other things. The luggage cover is actually somewhat genius. It seems hilariously bad, but at the same time it's the only luggage cover you dont go "what in the world am i suppose to do with this now that I had to take it off?". You can literally fold in four and stash away anywhere and when you need it again it springs back into shape like it was never folded to begin with. It does it's job in covering the luggage from view but isnt in the way when you need to take it off. The floor really isnt awe inspiring either, but again, likely just cost cutting and also to keep it somewhat light as it was meant to be adjusted by the user. But yeah, it also crossed my mind whether it will snap in half when I put a some heavy music equipment back there 😄 My dad told me a good joke about the paint and metal on Japanese cars once: "The japanese will take a sheet of metal, paint it both sides, then take the sheet of metal away"

  10. Try turning the key until the dash lights come on. Wait a couple of seconds for those that go out to do so (gives the fuel pump a chance to build pressure and 'warms' up the ignition) and push the clutch pedal down (easier on the battery) then try to start.

  11. it happened to me before, and brought my car back to the dealership and asked them to take some oil out, the service representative said it was ok. It may not hurt the engine, but when it is not ok, IMO, it may be difficult to calim it was their fault, and also the owner manual clealrly states engine oil should be never overfilled.

  12. Not sure cross will be more efficient than regular Yaris. But both are really good indeed. The key factors here are the lower total mass of the vehicles. These are very light cars, compared to standard petrol or diesel they have almost no penalty weight being hybrids. This is the biggest difference between the different generations of Toyota hybrids along with improved battery tech and ev motors and then more efficient engines. If we compare my Auris hybrid from 2010 weight 1440kg against Corolla hybrid 1.8 weight of 1360kg. Even if we equal the power trains my car will always feel like there is one more passenger inside. 👍

  14. I think even the late 09 - 11 Mk2 had a 6 speed box, it was fitted to all models with the 1NR-FE 1..33 engine. Mine has 6 gears and yes, the 6th gear really does drop the revs quite a bit so I'd be doing about 2000RPM at 50MPH, but it does not work well if you encounter a hill of any type of upward gradient, especially on country roads, so a fair bit of gear changing between 4th 5th and 6th is usually necessary. Motorways of good stretches of dual carriageway are the best for using 6th gear, cruising between 60 and 70MPH. I can get as good as 60MPG from my 1.33 on a run if i'm gentle on the throttle and use 6th gear - it really can help with eaking out the petrol, but I do use E5 petrol whenever I can so that helps too.

  15. I'm sadly selling my yaris T-sport and tbh not even sure if I'm doing the right thing.. Mileage 108k, i am the fourth owner. Ideally i'd like it to go to someone that will appreciate the car and the work gone into it. Not saying its the best out there, far from it, but its really quite good, i certainly have enjoyed it and it is a beautiful looking car. So here are some pics, but any questions please fire away. I work on my cars myself and have been doing so for over 20 years and like to take pride in what i do. Whoever gets the car will be getting something well cared for, certainly by me! A quick summary of what i have done: 4 new tyres (Toyo Proxes T-1R) Full service, including spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, pollen filter, engine clean, catalyst clean Coolant flush and refill with Toyota coolant Gearbox flush and refilled with MT90 New brake pads all round, all calipers cleaned and regreased. Seals all ok, pistons move freely New springs & clips rear brakes New headlights New horn New rear wiper arm (hard to source!) and blade New front wiper blades New PU bushes on new ARB drop links New front & rear metal T-sport badges New rear number plate New 6.5" Pioneer door speakers Damplifier soundproofing all panels, bonnet & boot lid, closed cell foam on door and panel cards Derattled (as far as possible!) Smaller things like stainless clamps and nuts in the engine bay - just make it a little nicer, cleaning of seatbelts etc, replaced heater controls with alloy dials I've got pics of most of the things I've done and documented everything in Word. Looking for £2500 Issues: aircon needs servicing - electromagnet is fine with direct power and compressor turns front wing and rear spoiler have been resprayed at some time, colour match is slightly off but the lacquer is really good so i decided against respraying either scuff and shallow dent on d/s door some other small scratches and scuffs - the worst is on the roof (pictured). Could do with touching up all 4 Alloys in great condition save for two scuffs about 10mm long on 2 wheels. Steering wheel has delaminated on RHS Wear hole on d/s of the carpet - temporarily covered with black felt

  16. Have a look round other posts on A/C , get it hot enough to kill the bacteria, not on cold. Put everything on hot when engine hot ,full fan speed. That is if I remember properly.

  17. My 2.0 TS GR Sport arrived at the dealer last Friday and I am picking it up this Friday. Original price, PX Equity and interest rate honoured. Just passed 2 on the road as well, both Scarlet Pearl. I think that there will a few hitting the road in the next couple of weeks

  18. Well no, cos all those things usually come with sensors that alert you of those levels. At least on other cars 😄 Given, the sensors could fail but I really left that habit behind me in cars made during this century

  19. I check mine!! Albeit not weekly... maybe every month. Or two. But this is a not-even-2 years old car so I think I can be a bit lazier with it, esp. after the Mk2, which I was checking the oil every couple of days at one point because that 1NR-FE was guzzling so much oil!!

  20. Half-donkey'd build quality does seem to be a stigma the french factory can't shake, but be glad it isn't a Mk2 - The panel gaps on that thing were hilarious There are a lot of minor things with them that marr what would otherwise be a perfect car, but you have to remember these are Yarisisisueies, i.e. econo-boxes, so the flimsy materials, thin metal etc. just comes with the territory. It's pretty much par for them since the Mk1; The plastics are chosen for resiliance rather than feel, the metals thinned to reduce weight and material cost etc. You can tell the lions share of the build cost has gone into the drivetrain, while almost everything else has been skimped on, but for me that's the way I'd want it rather than the other way around! (Which is more french car territory )

  23. Dunno about newer Lexusisses (Lexi?) Or about newer cars in general. But my old IS 200 , which was a 2001 SE, was a really well built car, and a joy to own and drive. I didn't choose it out of any badge snobbery, it just came up at the right time when my old grandad wagon pug (partner) started leaking oil and was being overtaken by deliveroo riders on push bikes. About ten years old when I bought it for around £3000 . No problems apart from the odd brake caliper sticking on.

  24. You can buy a syringe with 6mm tube and suck the excess oil out. This is common practice dealers service to overfill with oil. 1-2mm over not a big deal, more better to suck it out.

  25. I also always check the oil and filters after a service, just to make sure they're actually done. I will give that to Jemca - Although I've caught them not changing the fob battery, they've always done the oil and any filters on the schedule (But nothing else!). I used to think they were underfilling it, but I was checking when the car was cold and, according to the manual, the oil should be at the Max mark when the engine is still warm, and when I measured it that way it was right on the top dot. I wonder if they're doing something weird, like putting in the exact quantity of oil specced, but also pre-filling the oil filter, so it's over by the amount in the oil filter...?

  26. Hi Seren, I've had two services and oil had been overfilled each time. I took about 500ml out each time via the dipstick, it may or may not have done any damage, but it should be at the full mark on the dipstick, not above or below 👍

  27. Hi Bob, no offence meant but a bit of a stupid question, that's one of the first things I do when I get home after a service. I've had two services and both times it's been overfilled 🙂 Why would you not check the oil level after a service Bob ?

  28. Just had to replace my check valve. It only cost me a fiver. You can check if this is your root cause by switching the pipe connections around where they come out of the valve assembly. If the blocked jet has now changed sides, it's your check valve. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08L8MPHF1?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

  30. Whenever my Aygo wouldn't start I found that the solution was to turn the key until the last position before the start position and wait a few seconds before turning to start.

  31. Cycle the key a few times and let it build fuel pressure, it's possible it's not holding fuel pressure over time. pop the fuel cap off and make sure the seal is ok, put it back on making sure it is tight E10 fuel can also cause this type of issue

  32. As much I've been a Volvo V70 man before, my spouse has one now and it's a legendary thing in it's own right, but you really feel that the car is likely 1800kg or so with all the fluids and passanger in too. While I love how they drive, it sure feels like a freight train compared to these newer Toyotas.
    2 points
  33. Well done. Any pictures highly appreciated. 👍 I can tell that this will be one of the ultra wide spread and very first issues on these cars now turned 3-4 years old. Assumption based on Auris experience similar problems, not about if but when.

  34. I've just had this bracket snap completely on my 2020 Corolla. I probably should have pushed Toyota to replace it under warranty (this section of the exhaust alone is £417 inc VAT & fitting from Toyota by the way 😬, I asked them!) but for a speedy repair I got the one-man-band mechanic in my village to weld a new piece of metal onto it for me. He charged £50, did it within the hour and made a far better job than the Toyota original.

  35. It's a really nice looking car and you get what you pay for, the interiors are of higher quality than the Toyota. Both marques are well built, but the Lexus is more luxurious. Would I pay up for it though if the 2024 Yaris X does the same thing? Not sure. I don't hate Lexus because they are expensive, as that way leads you straight down the rabbit hole. Some people will hate me because I drive a 35k SUV, or my wife cos she has a brand new 23plate Yaris. Where does it end?
    2 points
  36. I managed like 10 months and 13000 km on an Aygo X before I ran out of the factory installed washer fluids 😄 But was indeed very surprised that there was no warning beforehand

  37. I've understood the Yaris Cross would beat even the regular Yaris mk4 with MPG, but not sure how could that be? Either way, it is a massive feat off of Toyota to make a car this "big" so efficient

  40. Thanks Bob. I didn’t realise you needed to have repaired paint before wrapping - so that is super useful information and immediately answers my question about which route I need to go down - thank you. In terms of mobile respray, I had approached one a little while ago who I saw working on a car close to me, however they were definitely quoting ‘central London prices’ if you know what I mean. I was thinking it would be more cost efficient to take the car to a body shop just outside London, however I don’t know where to start in finding somewhere good rather than cowboys who will just make things worse…
    2 points
  41. So this is why the charges are so high in London. It's to pay for the entire road system in London to be fitted with electric coils to reduce the emissions 😁😁
    2 points
  42. It's a known issue with the IQ, specifically with the pearlescent paint, where it hasn't bonded properly to the car. A lot of owners had this problem when the car was new and Toyota were fixing it, but alas that campaign is well over now. A wrap would probably be easier, but you would have to declare it on insurance, which will push the premium up - Someone got in trouble with insurance not long ago because their car had a clear PPF on it. With paint you need to find a reputable place too as there are a lot of cowboys out there. I'd probably lean more toward the paint just to avoid the insurance complications.
    2 points
  43. Well, let's be honest, Toyotas are out of this world 😁

  44. Great lets hope it rolled out on motorways as a and b roads you lucky if they fix the potholes!.
    2 points
  45. Yeaaah good luck with that. They couldn't add an extra lane to our motorways without cannibalizing the hard shoulder and that still took over a decade, and they can't even afford to fix potholes but they want to dig up substantial lengths of roadway to install electrical coils? And how long will they last before they get damaged? And the transmission losses will be horrific; You'll be lucky to get 30% energy transfer! If they can get it working for Formula E so it's not such a joke then I'll pay more attention, but this seems like yet another pie-in-the-sky idea that won't work in real life, like Solar Roadways... This is the problem with all these idiotic ideas - They are all Form over Function. They need to focus on sorting out the basic charging infrastructure and improving vehicle energy storage capacity before they start wasting money and resources distracting with things like this, but they won't because sensible things are boring and people are idiots that always go after the shiny instead

  47. Mine certainly seemed to have an unusually small bottle, first time I've been caught out by it running dry in 3 Yarisuseseises! I now carry a refill bottle in the boot...
    2 points
  48. Not your problem, get the dealer to sort it - more than likely the battery will get the blame for it (battery isn't covered after the first year)
